GO ASHLEY!!! I kept thinking at the end, "Push, push, push!!!" and she did! So glad she's finally coming into her own, she skated cleaner here than at nationals, I really hope this keeps boosting her confidence and she keeps on climbing:-) Go Ashley!
@eeyybob I think you misunderstood me. Yes ashley skated better, she did the jumps and was absolutely ON that night. However i just dont see how Mao's component marks can be lower than Ashleys. Yes Ashley deserved her scores, but i think Mao deserved more for components.
I never really noticed her, i mean i alway thought that she was good, but this programm was awesome. I love the choreography, especially in the spiral! great job!!
Since 2012 I found this performance a little overscored.. Mao's face shows how disappointed she was after her score. Mao had a clean triple axel in her performance and put a 3T in the axel combination, the only mistake she made was the double salchow, plus her combinations included 2Lo instead of 2T like Ashley did. And honestly, 128 for a non 3-3 performance? But Ashley has grown so much after four years and I like them both.
I want her to continue to rock through the next Olympics - she deserves it and has everything it takes to be a champion. THe comments here just sound jealous - she's awesome and can challenge anyone in the world when she's on - get over it.
In terns of jumps, more speed is better. you get more points for grade of execution because it is hard for skaters to jump at faster speeds without falling. That is why Yuna Kim always gets high marks for jumps. But i do agree agree that skating is not all about speed
It's all about scoring criteria. It's hard to judge speed on RUclips but Ashley Wagner seems faster and more fluid and that seems like a PCS booster. However I also thymidine criteria for a clean jump is a bit too strict. We went from flutzes and under rotated 3-3s winning olympics to a bit over nit-picking and hence the disappearance of 3-3s among top ladies.
Gorgeous, deffinitely her best ever. I would have placed her above of Asada, but not by that margin. The GOEs on some jumps were too high and the components, well, you know. I think it should have been a one or two point victory, or maybe even a win for Asada.
@sk8ingcoach1 yeah and i think also that the marks of technic also to much i mean she didn't this kind of jumps you know like 3/3 the programe is very simple...but anyway she skated well i think she deserve around 120 marks ...
@sk8ingcoach1 I agree totally. I love Ashley, love the program, love what John Nicks has done with her. I hope she gets a medal at worlds. But she isn't in the same league as Mao for me. That 3A was in the bag. Can't see what was wrong with it. But congratulations Ashley. Worlds should be fun.
A nice performance, though it's so hard to see "Odile" nor "Nina" in this (so-called 128+scored) programme; especially when one had ever watched Baiul's "Black Swan" in 1994 Olympics. Anyhow congrats to Ms Wagner, who would be made an Olympian already in 2010, if US had 3 spots that year.
Yes ashley probably skated better than Mao. However i dont know how judges can place ashley's components above Mao. I know some people like ashley's arms movements, but personally i find her quite robotic and stiff in most of her movements. This is looking like another repeat of skate america. If this competition wasnt in US then i believe Mao would have won
the music alone is so dramatic that I was expecting more artistry and emotion from this program. definitely a deserving champion but there's still room for improvement.
@sk8ingcoach1 i agree with you about the arm movements. i don't see it as much in this performance, but in her short i see it. its like she's trying too hard. especially at the end in the clip of her in the medal ceremony taking her bows. it's not a natural movement.
wow....her changing coach made a huge difference!! i cant believe "ashley wagner" is beating mao asada... a year ago ashley wagner wasnt even a threat, LOL to ANYONE.....and now shes beating MAO ASADA??? i dunnooo america, this one might be ours!
@Proustable Yes she skated better, but i believe that Mao's components are far supeior to Ashley. Many people believe that she received high component marks because the competition was in the US. A similar circumstance to Alissa and Carolina at Skate America.
OMG!...another international competition won by a us skater thanks to us judges (see also skate america of this year). They gave her a super score of 128.34 for a FS with no triple-triple combination. Now...I'm not saying that Mao skated better, but that is the highest score of the season for a ladies free program!!!...and of course that was not the best FS of the season, was it?
@ilikeatingcats More speed doesn't make a skate better. It's liek singing...a louder voice doesn't make a better singer...maybe this was more powerful...but it wasn't better.
期待して見たのですが、彼女の演技に浅田真央を上回るものを見出せませんでした。ちっとも優美ではないのです。I expected, but although seen, what exceeds Mao Asada to her performance was not able to be found out. It is not graceful at all. She is a duck with a short leg rather than calling it a swan.
I love this program! From the costume to the music to the beautiful choreography. Tara's right, she does completely embody the character.
I love watching this and then watching this year's programs
素晴らしい!この演技なら優勝も納得。浅田真央とは一味違う魅力を感じます。
GO ASHLEY!!! I kept thinking at the end, "Push, push, push!!!" and she did! So glad she's finally coming into her own, she skated cleaner here than at nationals, I really hope this keeps boosting her confidence and she keeps on climbing:-) Go Ashley!
wonderful choreography
@katsuki116 that's because it's not suppose to be Odile. It's suppose to be Nina. She's skating to "Black Swan" the movie, not Swan Lake the Ballet.
この演技凄く感動しました!気迫がこもってましたね。
@eeyybob I think you misunderstood me. Yes ashley skated better, she did the jumps and was absolutely ON that night. However i just dont see how Mao's component marks can be lower than Ashleys. Yes Ashley deserved her scores, but i think Mao deserved more for components.
She acted well.In Japan had been announced and the Academy's Best Actress!!!(Natalie Portman
Congratulations Ashley.Was a good performance.

@sk8ingcoach1 I agree. Not just Ashley, all other US skaters scores are inflated.
love her arm movement of spiral
A Wonderful performance from Ashley!!!

Wow very Michelle Kwan-eske! Congratulations, deserved every point

Super!! Go, Ashley!!
Go Ashley. Your ice skating is asweshome.
WOW she was on. not too hot on the score either, but this was great.
the music alone is so dramatic that I was expecting more artistry and emotion from this program. definitely a deserving champion but there's still room for improvement.

@ilikeatingcats Pretty sure you have to be powerfull to do a triple axel...
I like Ashley Wagner
@Proustable Yes she skated better, but i believe that Mao's components are far supeior to Ashley. Many people believe that she received high component marks because the competition was in the US. A similar circumstance to Alissa and Carolina at Skate America.
ASHLEY!! That's my girl! :-)
@chapstickgurl1 Yes,she won.( :

no falló en sus saltos pero en interpretación le falta mucho.

減点なく数字は重ねましたよ?少なくともその点では浅田真央を上回ってます。
