@@Picolettto I think people seems to not really care because this album were not really type of album that you can go crazy with on your first-third listen. It takes quite a time for me to actually enjoy that album. And second thing, it's a pop album. Y'know, if it's not experimental, it's bad. Jessie Ware herself is also not quite popular or seems to have loyal fanbase like Charli or others so I guess that also plays some factor as well.
Too many comments talking about the 10 lol and not the music. This album is a crossover between Mr. Bungle and an old Disney movie gone musical theater. The music is fantastic in my opinion, the chord progressions are very interesting and the voice melody and harmonies are crazy good, production is flawless too. The juxtaposition of synths and traditional instruments in this context is just *chef's kiss*. The pacing was a little slow on the first listen I think. The only thing I don't really like is Chrystia's timbre, if she sang in her normal voice it would be a perfect album in my opinion but that detail is far from ruining the project, it's just something that you might love or not. It's an amazing piece of music that I would've never discovered if it wasn't for this channel. Maybe a 10, maybe not, that's not the most important thing in my opinion but, definitely worth a listen. And if you're a big fan of musical theater you'll love this project. If this album was a movie soundtrack or something it would probably win a few awards.

I would say this is the most obscure artist you’ve given a 10 to, at least at the time of the album’s release. Death Grips and Daughters weren’t huge, I guess, but they had fan bases and/or buzz that I’m pretty sure was bigger than this. This is really great for Spellling. She damn sure deserves the recognition for this album.
Yeah I remember listening the album on RUclips and there was like only hundreds of view. I was blown away by the quality of the music. 10 deserved. (Even tho for me it's a 9)

yeah I loved this album but didn't think it was super innovative and boundary pushing to be a 10 in Fantano scores. I guess it just speaks to how great it is though, it can be throwback to Kate Bush-esc sounds and still get a 10

For example he said DG's Bottomless Pit is an improvement in almost every way over The Money Store but it got a 9 whereas Money Store got a 10 because the time TMS came out it was just so groundbreaking.

@@escherpainting8622 Anthony Fantano has a pretty big fan base, so when he gives an album a perfect score, chances are ALOT of people are going to flock towards that album and artist to see what the buzz is all about, which means more exposure. Daughters is a good example of this. Even though they were popular in the scene they were in, Fantano opened them up to people from different sides of the music sphere, and the drummer of Daughters themselves literally states that. Here’s an excerpt from a NY Times article about TheNeedleDrop: “[Daughters] had just released [their] first new album in eight years, and although the music’s punishing heaviness wasn’t exactly welcoming to a wide audience, Daughters’ tour had sold out and its label noticed a sudden spike in sales and streams, the drummer Jon Syverson recalled. Syverson, who was approaching 40, even heard from a cousin half his age, who’d excitedly tried to explain the uptick in attention. “Oh my God,” the teenager told him, “The Melon reviewed your album, he wore the yellow flannel and gave it a 10 out of 10!””
She’s not gonna be headlining Coachella or anything but this is definitely gonna put more eyes on her than she would have previously had if he’d review this album and gave it, say, a 7. Also Brockhampton was able to break through to the mainstream as well and a big part of that was the positive reviews they were getting from melon at the time.
Sometimes I wonder if Anthony knows the effect he’s about to have on someone’s career. I’ve literally never heard of Spellling, and she has 68,173 listeners on Spotify. I guarantee that’ll be up to half a million in a week or so, and a lot of that will be thanks to him. It happened with daughters

Look, memes aside, Melon has exposed me to a bunch of great music over the years. I would've never sought this album out or looked it up had I heard one of the songs from it at random - progressive pop is way out of my lane - yet I'm already three full album listens deep. I've had trouble staying interested in longer form music through the pandemic - even five minute songs seem to drag on - but I've literally stopped typing when Boys at School started playing all three times. It's entrancing in a way I haven't felt in a long time. Thank you, Ant Knee.

SPELLING seems to be guiding us through the album. Her voice has a leading vibe that is just so immersive. The experience of listening to 'The Turning Wheel' evokes a scene of a mother opening the doors of her cabin on the top of a cold mountain, and making us comfortable with fire, food and love. It's cozy, sensitive and human. Love it!

This album is a crossover between Mr. Bungle and an old Disney movie gone musical theater. The music is fantastic in my opinion, the chord progressions are very interesting and the voice melody and harmonies are crazy good, production is flawless too. The juxtaposition of synths and traditional instruments in this context is just *chef's kiss*. The pacing was a little slow on the first listen I think. The only thing I don't really like is Chrystia's timbre, if she sang in her normal voice it would be a perfect album in my opinion but that detail is far from ruining the project, it's just something that you might love or not.
It's an amazing piece of music that I would've never discovered if it wasn't for this channel. Maybe a 10, maybe not, that's not the most important thing in my opinion but, definitely worth a listen. And if you're a big fan of musical theater you'll love this project. If this album was a movie soundtrack or something it would probably win a few awards.

I would say this is the most obscure artist you’ve given a 10 to, at least at the time of the album’s release. Death Grips and Daughters weren’t huge, I guess, but they had fan bases and/or buzz that I’m pretty sure was bigger than this. This is really great for Spellling. She damn sure deserves the recognition for this album.

Daughters is a good example of this. Even though they were popular in the scene they were in, Fantano opened them up to people from different sides of the music sphere, and the drummer of Daughters themselves literally states that. Here’s an excerpt from a NY Times article about TheNeedleDrop:
“[Daughters] had just released [their] first new album in eight years, and although the music’s punishing heaviness wasn’t exactly welcoming to a wide audience, Daughters’ tour had sold out and its label noticed a sudden spike in sales and streams, the drummer Jon Syverson recalled.
Syverson, who was approaching 40, even heard from a cousin half his age, who’d excitedly tried to explain the uptick in attention. “Oh my God,” the teenager told him, “The Melon reviewed your album, he wore the yellow flannel and gave it a 10 out of 10!””
She’s not gonna be headlining Coachella or anything but this is definitely gonna put more eyes on her than she would have previously had if he’d review this album and gave it, say, a 7. I would've never sought this album out or looked it up had I heard one of the songs from it at random - progressive pop is way out of my lane - yet I'm already three full album listens deep. The experience of listening to 'The Turning Wheel' evokes a scene of a mother opening the doors of her cabin on the top of a cold mountain, and making us comfortable with fire, food and love. Thanks for throwing me a bone Anthony, that's easily the most accessible 10/10 you've given for a (mostly) rock listener like me. Even though I continue to try and broaden my horizons and did enjoy Daughters and Swans, I feel right at home with this prog/art-rock/baroque pop album so far.
