Just did a similar install in my cybertruck. The voltage @ the connector was ~15.5 volts. Works like a champ. Takes several minutes after securing the truck for the power @ the connector to shut off.
Chris, curious since it’s been a few weeks of install if any issues. I did mine this way a month or so ago before video and CT shut down last weekend. I ask as Tesla is trying to push to radar fault.
Hey Chris, got the Uniden R8. How I get to turn it on when I start the CT? It doesn’t turn on unless I press the power button. Have the Battery Saver Mode On btw.
Mine turns on automatically when I open the door! Are you sure you used the same wires as mine? You can also try going into DRIVE and see if it turns on. I also have battery save mode on
@BambuksPUR yeah for me it was plug and play, try it with the cig outlet in another car first to make sure it works and also make sure connections are secure
@everydaychris have you noticed that sometimes your detector does not turn on? A few times I have been driving and noticed it was not on. It had power to it because all I had to do was hit the power button and it came on. Just wondering why it didn't power on when I got in the truck. Has this happened to you? I have a Uniden.
Well guess what. My 2024 that's two weeks old does not have the white clip with the red and black wire. Well, Now I'm at a loss. Anyone else find that the white connect is not there?
@@EverydayChris yeah because of how excited I was about Tesla one of my buddies at work just ordered the refreshed M3 performance!!! I was like you have to one up me 😂 !!!
Were you worried that the cameras might be on 48v and fry the radar detector? I don’t think I saw you check the voltage with a multi-meter before tapping into the camera feed…. Would be curious where the transformer that drops the 48v to 12v is, since I would want to also put a phone mount on the windshield or HUD mount on the dash to be able to run Waze. Too bad Tesla doesn’t integrate with the Waze reporting system - then there would be no reason to have a phone visible!
I hope someone will come up with an easy way to add a rearview camera monitor, in place if the mirror, by getting power the same way. So you can use the rearview mirror as a monitor.
I added the mirror but was unable to use the same method as the USB-C connection to the camera or the camera itselft seems to require power ground AND constant or ACC. So I ended up running the usbC through the visor down the A piler and out to the center console USB connection.
We need to find a 12-volt rear view mirror solution that can pigtail to this 12 volt connector. It would connect wirelessly to a camera in the back preferably feed off the camera feed that is already there if possible
Lol I just saw your Cybertruck parked at the Westin here at Mammoth yesterday. I was hoping I would run into you, but I woke up this morning and your truck was gone.
@@EverydayChrisyeah we’re here until tomorrow. I was telling my wife I’m subscribed to your channel and she was like yeah you’re making him rich and that’s why he got the Cybertruck and you’re still on the waiting list. Hahahaha.
@@PicturesOnGoldcom How long did you wait to check after sentry mode setting being off? The car has to go into the deep sleep mode after 15-20 min for it to shut off
@@EverydayChrisI’ll check after 20 minutes and get back to you. Stay tuned. Thank you for the video as well. I’m not handy at all and it worked like a charm. One suggestion is to recommend the correct size screwdriver to remove the mirror. Ty.
You need to get the bracket that mounts Thule radar detector to the mirror so you don’t have suction cubs.

I get 15.8 with the detector on!
@@EverydayChris glad we have some lower voltage connection locations for electronic gadgets designed for 12v vehicles

Well done Chris. Tip - if your radar detector, detects laser, take the next exit and maybe you’ll get lucky and not meet up with the cop 😬
Haha
Thanks man, followed this to add mirrortap to my new M3P. Was similar but had red and black instead.
Nice
Thank you for the informative videos on the Cybertruck. Hopefully it becomes cheaper when its time for me to buy one. LOL.

Yes, I actually use your link to purchase those. It’s weird then. Maybe a setting I need to change

I found it. Pulled the cover off again and found the white connector. It's WAY back there.

I’m going to 3D Print a caddy to hold the radar detector in place of the mirror that way it feels OEM
