It's great to see someone appreciate John Wayne's work, regardless of his political views. In Brannigan, Wayne shows us that, regardless of his age, he can lead a fun action movie. You're great, keep up the good work! I look forward to your next video!
Thanks for your interesting review and fun take on a forgotten film. I am OLD, so I recall seeing this in the cinema when I was in high school - I think the tagline was, "Brannigan is in London - God Save the Queen!" I'm surprised they didn't find a DUKE joke. Today (and in '75), it comes across as an old actor trying to catch the Eastwood Dirty Harry (1971) vibe. Can't teach an old dog a young dog's tricks. I guess the thinking was, "Eastwood used this tough cop to transition from Westerns to contemporary movies, so..." re the creepy flirting, that was probably; there for his ego or perhaps, if the script was tailored after the fact as a vehicle for him it may be a holdover from a love plot. Of his latter-day works, I think THE COWBOYS and THE SHOOTIST still hold up as classics. It's nice to see his work celebrated rather than jumping on the political hate-wagon. He was an old guy with the values of his time, like so many men of his generation. I work in the film business; by sheer audacity, I managed to go to the Oscars in 1979, which was when Wayne made his last public appearance - he died a few weeks later. I worked on a film with the great Ben Johnson, who was Wayne's great friend from their John Ford days. He told me that night he was delivered backstage by ambulance. Too weak to walk, Ben was supposed to wheel him out in a wheelchair. As Carson announced him, "Duke" stood up and strode out to say goodbye to Hollywood. Even then, he was 'controversial,' but there was not a dry eye in the house. As Ben put it, "Nobody knew he gave his greatest performance that night. He didn't just walk out there - he walked out there like John Wayne."
Thank you so much for your comment! My parents raised me on John Wayne and Roy Rogers movies, so I have a lot of love for these older actors. That is incredible that you attended the 1979 Oscars! I have watched that clip of John Wayne coming onstage many times, and I still can't watch it without tearing up. And you knew Ben Johnson! That is one actor that I really wish I could have met. A fantastic horseman, and a wonderful character actor. I had never heard that story about him being backstage at the Oscars. Thank you for sharing. I'd be curious to hear which film you worked on with him. He's one of those guys that improved everything he appeared in, he always brought so much authenticity to his roles.
Love John Wayne. This is a movie i never get tiered of and being British makes it special for me. Liked the clip were you showed Toney Blairs father in law getting thrown out of a window Haha. Recently watched another Wain movie recently two in fact , The High and the Mighty and Island in the sky wane acts his socks off in the latter movie.

I wouldn’t say Brannigan is one of John Wayne’s best movies but it’s still a fun action movie.
I like your review style as opposed to the reaction videos, although I like those too.
