Drainage of a Subungual Hematoma using Burr holes

  • This patient had slammed his right thumb nail in a door a few days prior. Many physicians would elect to do nothing here as often times the thought is that this area has started to clot already. That being said, I've always found burr holes effective, irrespective of how far out the injury is, and the patient will feel better and have a greater chance of saving the nail. Certainly a simple procedure to learn.
