To those in the comments throwing around the tired “it’s not Michelle’s responsibility that Conrad killed himself”.
No it isn’t. But it was her responsibility once she realized where he was and that he was going to carry out the plan they had discussed ad nauseam to TRY to get him help.
She didn’t talk him down. She didn’t alert authorities or his parents. She talked on the phone with him until he lost consciousness from the carbon monoxide and went around playing dumb/shocked girlfriend to his friends and family.
Her own issues and struggles are not a shield, no matter how much she wants them to be.

But he kept saying that he would drink bleach, hang, or sleeping pills, n my friend gave up n said “ do the fuck you want, you’ve been saying this for 4 yrs to take your own life. This is not the only situation like this. There was a man who encouraged a woman to kill herself in a chatroom. This is not an isolated incident. There are many people who have targeted vulnerable and fragile people in their 20s and 30s who struggle with depression, and then helped them to think suicide was a viable, sane or kind option. It is not. Ever. These are extremely disturbed, morally bankrupt and vacuous people who enjoy the feeling of power that it gives them to push someone over the edge to suicide. They are horrible people that no one should ever trust or let into their life. Watch your children and talk to them. Warn them about people like this, there are more of them than many people realize. They hide out in chat rooms with names like Tootsie Roll, or Banjo or whatever. They hide out and in secrecy they do this, or they just do it in the open, like that horrible girl did. I can't imagine being so dead inside that you would encourage someone else to take their own life. But this is the world we live in. Protect your children, know what they're doing and know who they are in contact with. Make no excuses, find out and take action.

I really don't understand this obsession with making movies so soon after real events happen. This happened in 2015. It's still fresh for everyone involved. How is dramatizing this in a movie improving life for anyone involved? Everyone now has to relive everything that happened, and see it portrayed in a way that will be inaccurate for the sake of creating drama and boosting views to make money for the producers. And the rest of the world will now think this dramatization is how things actually played out. They won't have their facts straight, but they'll think they will and it will most likely only make life harder for everyone close to these events

this case was so wild. the most insane part to me is that the prosecuting attorneys proved over and over again that Michelle was incredibly unstable and a known liar/fibber. and yet, the entire case hinged on her single text to her friend 2 months after his death saying that she blamed herself and was on the phone telling him to "get back in the car and kill himself"
contrary to what most believe about the case - she NEVER sent this to conrad over text. She never mentioned saying that to him until attention started to wane.
Conrad had attempted suicide 4 times previously, his grandfather was abusive, his father was arrested for beating the shit out of him, his father's gf screamed that he was a piece of shit while his dad beat him, his mom knew he was suicidal and made him "promise not to kill himself for her" this was a really sick young man with so many underlying issues.
Michelle had been in treatment for an eating disorder and self harm since she was 8...clearly also a very sick person. they just were toxic together and I think conrad's parents wanted someone else to blame other than themselves

Most of the time, there are two sides to the story and the truth is somewhere in between. Sadly, Conrad isn’t here to tell his side. That doesn’t excuse Michelle’s role by any means, but it also doesn’t put all the blame on her either.

His parents refused to get him help and she even asked why they wouldn't get him help. He had basically given up already because his family had. She tried to help him, but eventually his depression and talk of killing himself got to her and so she went the other direction. She shouldn't have done it and frankly either one of them could have stopped talking to the other, but that's where the codependency comes in. Is what she did wrong? Absolutely. There have been many instances of teenagers bullying others into suicide. I've never heard of them going to jail. I simply am questioning what makes her situation that different?
