Southwest Airlines Agent getting berated, but keeping cool.

  • I literally watched a SWA employee get berated by this woman for almost a half an hour, slowing down the line for everybody behind her. The SWA employee clearly was limited in what she could do: she couldn’t manifest another plane out of thin air and she certainly didn’t have the authority to hand the woman hundreds of dollars on the spot. Despite taking a verbal beating, the SWA employee (Theresa), stayed calm and did what she could. You can see the frustration in the people behind them.
    This was even with the woman’s partner yelling over her how SWA just cost him his job (if you get fired for missing a day because your airplane broke, your job performance wasn’t great to begin with) and how he was going to get his lawyers on SWA (he even went off to the side and called his “lawyers” and was saying things like “Yeah, get them on it, shut Southwest Airlines down.” Good luck with that one, killer). Not to be classicist, since everybody deserves their day in court, but people with lawyers on call generally have a certain dress and grooming style that does not include saggy pants (as much as I love saggy pants myself, but then again, I don’t have lawyers on call). It’s cool to involve attorneys if you think you’ve been wronged. But bullshitting to grandstand in order to get your way by surreptitiously harassing an employee who is already doing everything in her power to help you is pretty lame.
    I had to stop early because I was on the St. Louis flight, but the footage I got was actually incredibly tame compared to what happened before it. The woman was cursing at the employee with lots of “You don’t care! Southwest Airlines doesn’t care!” etc. To which I could only think that if Southwest Airlines didn’t care they’d put you on a malfunctioning plane or try to finagle you into paying for your own food/hotel, none of which they did. Theresa actually got a round of applause from everybody else once the couple left.
    Long story short: I don’t believe in god, but Theresa is a saint. I’m sure SWA got a complaining call from this couple, and it’s understandable that they were upset about not making it home that night. But reprimanding Theresa would be almost criminal (don’t make me call my lawyers). If anything, she deserves a raise and a nice long vacation. People like Theresa are why Southwest Airlines remains my favorite airline to fly.

      I would not tolerate abuse from any passenger. i would warn them if they continue to abuse me I would call security and have them removed from the airport. Then the guy acted all macho "give me the corporate numbers , you will be hearing from my lawyer'". Talk is cheap. he won't be calling anyone. He is immature. When he is finally sitting on the plane he will be getting what he wants like a child and it will all be forgotten because mummy gave him his dummy. If he wanted a corporate number, get it yourself.

      They didn’t miss their own flight. The airlines will only pay for your hotel and give you a voucher if it’s their fault. Pretty much everything but weather and customer’s fault so mechanical issues etc. this was 100% SW’s fault.

      It sounds to me like their previous flight arrived at the airport and was stuck on the tarmac for 50 minutes not allowing them to deplane. It's hard to understand at the beginning, but the lady said that they said they were going to miss their flight and told to sit down and they would tell them when they were going to miss their flight and then the agent said something about 50 minutes prior so you still weren't going to make the flight. So, on top of sitting on the tarmac, it was also late, maybe. It's still no reason to yell at the agent as it wasn't her fault.

      They talked about being on the plane for nearly an hour. That means they boarded, then were told to get off for some reason. Maybe plane malfunction, maybe disorderly conduct, who knows, but the assumption is that they were there on time and still didn't get to fly.

      I feel like this is true for anyone that works in customer service. My very first job I worked at a women's safe and sober housing shelter. So when I got into custody service I was very I guess you could say "unsympathetic" to rude enttiled customers.

    My boyfriend and I went to San Fran years ago , it was our first vacation together, we missed our return flight by 15 minutes, he talked to the lady and was really nice about it and she managed to get us on the next flight a couple hours ahead. This was Southwest btw. Kindness goes a long way, and it’s no one’s fault for missing your flight except yourself.

    This is one of the reasons I always make sure I have plenty of time to get to the airport and if I have a layover I always make sure that I have at least an hour to get something to eat and have time to get to my gate. These people need to learn this

      I make it a habit for my domestic layovers to be no less than 90 minutes and for international layovers to be at least three hours long. One time, I had an eight-hour layover, and I almost missed my connection cause my flight faced more than seven hours of delay.

The last UK prime minister a few years ago was photographed flying with easyjet which is a low cost UK airline. He didnt need to but chose to. Not every wealthy person is a snob.     I love Southwest. I started flying for the first time in 2017, and they were a little better service in general, always greeted better than TSA security for any info. Literally easy check in on my iphone, and easy check in on bags.

      Other airlines can accept your ticket from another airline if they have available seats. Happens all the time , SWA and the other cheaper airlines don’t have that ability. SWA also flies out of airports which have little or no other major airlines in them.

    What she needs to do is GET TO THE AIRPORT ON TIME. Get through security at least 1 hr before your flight starts boarding then get all checked in, then get your food. Not the other way around.

What we do know is that the airline employee was being reasonable and helpful, the customers were being irrational and a total pain in the ass, so the safe bet would be to side with Yobachis assumption of events
