Just to ease everyone minds about the Endoscopy. I had mine done today. If you are getting sedated than you'll not even notice It. I totally went in today so freaked out and worried with so much anxiety. Everyone was super nice and literally when they start they tell you to take a couple of deep breaths in to fall asleep and your literally sleeping by the 4th breath and wake up and its done before you even know it. Just relax dont get scared it'll be fine. Some people says it the best sleep they've had in a while :)

'Victory is mine!' had mine with sedation and loved the experience, didn't panic and felt fantastic. Even joked with the team who carried out the procedure just before they started with dim lighting

Thank you for this video. I watched it last nite and it put me at ease for my procedure today. My doctor is very cool and reassuring. But I tell ya, as soon as I began to relax my mind while laying down the next thing I knew, I was in recovery and I had a gastroscopy and colonoscopy done! That was quite an experience for me, I've never had any invasive procedure done to my vessel in 60 years of life. No gagging, no pain nor discomfort. It was a breeze. Propofol...now I understand why Michael Jackson needed it.

Today I had a gastroscopy / endoscopy along with a colonoscopy! I wanted to share my experience as prior to my procedure I was frantically looking for peoples experiences so I knew what to expect. Firstly I’ll just say everyone is different and has a different reaction.
Firstly, I was a nervous reck during my consult and I was honest with my doctor and told him the day of the procedure I think I’ll have a hard time getting to the hospital due to nerves so he prescribed me Ativan to help me not feel so anxious prior which I think is s great help if you get naturally anxious before procedures!
Anyways, I used the bowel kit bi peglyte which contains 3 tablets and 2 sachets to mix each in one lite of water! So I took the tables around 2pm and after about 2 hours I felt very very very nauseous so I immediately went to the shower and let the warm water run on my back which helped a bit & when I got out of the shower I put on anti nausea bracelets which are bracelets that press down on pressure points to help relieve nausea naturally ( I purchased them from a drug store ) they seemed to help around 8pm I had to drink my first litre and in my experience it was worse cold and took forever to drink but never made me feel nauseous sick or bloated and I only had mild cramping that would come and go it took me nearly 5 hours to finish the first litre though which I do not recommend because I didn’t get much sleep as I had to get up at 530am to drink my other litre which went a lot faster (only 2.5 hours) I was concerned that my bowels weren’t ready as my stool was clear but it was bright yellow.. when I left I took 1mg of Ativan to help my anxiety
ONCE I GOT TO THE HOSPITAL
I feel as if the Ativan didn’t really help but it did make my heart to not race and helped me to be compliant. They then took me back to a bed where I could change into the hospital gown and put on a hair net then they tried to start an iv that took close to 45 mins as they couldn’t get any of my veins to corporate but they were very sweet about it and only poked me twice the first time in my right wrist which didn’t work and then again in my left hand
After that the rolled me into the procedure room and I noticed the doctor immediately starting the sedation and then he sprayed my throat with a numbing spray that was absolutely horrible then the fitted me with a mouth guard and this is where things got a bit blurry but I remember having my eyes open and feeling the scope in my throat but I don’t remember gagging panicking or feeling like I couldn’t breathe next thing I knew they pulled it out and then I was watching the colonoscopy part but again no pain or discomfort after that they wheeled me back to my room and told me I’d have to wait a hour before I could eat or drink due to the throat spray
So overall I’d say that drinking the prep and getting the iv were the worst parts for me but they were tolerable! I’m a very anxious person and get nauseous very easily when I’m anxious so I was very nervous but all in all it wasn’t a horrible experience all though I haven’t really felt hungry since and I’ve been done for about 8.5 hours
    THINGS ID SUGGEST
If you do read people’s experiences remember everyone is different
I would recommend sedation especially if you are anxious
Drinking the prep with breaks helps you to not feel as sick
Try hard to drink the prep in the recommended time so you can get more sleep
And if you’re very nervous ask if they can give you something like Ativan that you can take on the way to your procedure
    MY RESULTS
they found mild gastritis and recommended I try to not over indulge in food that may cause acid reflux
They didn’t find any polyps but did take multiple biopsies from both the gastroscopy and colonoscopy so I just have to wait for those results & next week I get more blood taken and do a hida scan yay 😒
So as of currently I have no diagnosis the stool in my blood which is frustrating but what can you do? They said I have fissures but with the snout r I bleed sometimes it’s hard to say if that’s just fissures as I occasionally fill the toilet bowl with blood so I’m not sure where they will go from here but hopefully they’ll find the source and stop the bleeding soon

I only went for the spray, so here's my experience if anybody's wondering. It was undoubtedly uncomfortable. But if anybody is expecting a lot of physical pain, like I was, you can relax. It's not physical painful at all. But you're going to experience a lot of gagging (is that the right word? english is not my first language..). Which of course isn't very nice. The fact that you got a tube down your throat makes it a bit worse that normally, but honestly not that much.
Personally I kept constantly gagging during the whole process, but I've heard that is not the case for all people. Non the less it only last for like five minutes. The worst part is definitely to get it down your throat. They did also pump some air down in my stomach which was a bit uncomfortable.
I think why a lot of people finds gastroscopy to be so horrible is because of their mentally experience. You can start panicking and desperately feel that you need to get the tube out. Luckily I didn't. Both the nurse and the doctor was really good at keeping me calm and talk me through it. So as difficult as it may be, you should try to relax. Keep in mind that it's not dangerous at all. So in my experience it wasn't anywhere near as bad as I thought it would be. Again, if you're afraid that it will be physical painful, you don't need to worry about that :)

Thanks so much for sharing your experience! :)
For me - I have a phobia of throwing up and anything like that... So gagging was NOT something I wanted to experience :P
It was definitely psychological for me - there was no physical pain :)

That's another thing I'm afraid of ,the air that they may pumping my stomach. I get gas with certain foods. And it often feels like someone's trying to pull my heart out of my chest. I don't want to experience that again. 😢

I got more sedation than they usually give as well because my heart rate was wayyy up lol they gave me the wonderful cocktail mix of midazolam, benadryl and fentanyl which totally relaxed me into a blissfully unaware state. I was scared to get sedation because I have never had it and thought it would make me feel out of control but not at ALL! I did wake up to about 4 gagging fits but it wasn't tortuous, it was tolerable thanks to sedation. Piece of cake!

I've never had ANY of these drugs in my system. I had an operation for a drooped eyelid way back when I was about 6 .it was an awful experience then. The prep medicine that they gave, me to drink ( it was just a little medicine cup full of some cloudy, & very nasty tasting liquid) was super nasty. I couldnt keep it down for a minute.🤢🤮 😂 well anyway, I had the operation, but because of the gas that they used (this was in the early 70's by the way.) I was sick that night,& into the next 2 days. So as you see, you can understand why I would have such trepidation for this procedure. (Bieng sedated) I also have Mitral valve prolapse. don't know what those drugs will do to my heart.

same for me. last bit i remember was seeing the camera tube and then next i was gagging whilst they told me 'ok we're done'. i was very relieved. shame the sedation didnt work for my colonscopy. in regards to after the procedure i luckily managed to avoid a sore throat but i did have a stomach ache for a few hours.

I had my second one at Bournemouth Hospital yesterday, the first time i had the sedation and remember nothing and this time i went for none, the throat spray was the worst part!, tasted vile!, there was a bit of discomfort when the tube went down and i coul d feel it inside me but it was all over in 5 minutes, they show you on a screen what is going on and tell you the results straight away, from start to finish was less than an hour and once the numbness wore off there was only very slight soreness which soon went off, now i have had one both ways i can assure people who are nervous like me that it's no big deal, in fact i'd rather have this than a filling at the dentist!

I had this yesterday and I chose sedation and it litterally didn't work and they gave me 2 Scot things. But I was totally alert but I remember mostly all of it! So just letting everyone know sometimes the sedation won't work,my heart rate was 132 so they said that could be why but the throat spray wasn't so bad and awake (since I was awake) is fine and it's just uncomfortable not hurts. :) good luck to anyone who gets one! My nurses were so nice

It's so interesting how we all experience it differently.

Has no one had this without sedation? Had mine about a fortnight ago. Horrendous for about 15-20 seconds as they passed the tube down, asking you to swallow it - Gagging, Wretching and Eyes Streaming. Ok after this relatively speaking, over much quicker than I expected. Hope I don't have to repeat this procedure any time soon!

I'm going for mine next Tuesday..
The doctor's MOA told me that quite a few patients totally DO end up asking when they are having it done..
      Universal answer........ "It's already done.."
This definitely helped to calm me down, about the procedure at least, so thank you!! I just need to stop waiting to be told I have the C word.. I don't know how to deal with this waiting..... I have horrible anxiety and watched my dad lose his battle with it in 2002, while holding him.
So needless to say.. PTSD and GAD.
First thought for the last 18 years this Aug 24, whenever something goes wrong physically, is that I'm going to die.
Were you nervous about getting your results?
My GP prescribed me 4 1mg Ativans to take before going and then also before the procedure.
Sooooo, I'm pretty sure I'm going to be, excuse my language, high as BLEEP once they inject the sedative..
I just keep telling people that I guess I'm going to now know what being high on Fentanyl is like.. And NO, not trying to joke about the ODs and deaths on the streets, etc. I think I totally understand why people do OD so very very easily while using it that way. You need it to be a controlled dose, even right down to your body size/type.. If it makes you forget, then how do these people know how much they are taking?
Now I know why I see people literally sitting on the streets, slumped over, almost dead.. 😓😢
I carry Narcan nasal spray and 2 Naloxone kits whenever I leave home. This is after seeing a man OD in the 7/11 parking lot.. Nobody had one....... If one of us did, we could have saved him..
When the paramedics arrived, it was too late.
Thanks again for explaining your experience, as it matched up with EXACTLY what I've been told will happen!
If I wake up and do that shit, I'm going to just start cracking up..
Not sure what they use in other countries, etc.. Here in BC Canada, they sedate you with Fentanyl.
Me: So how much longer before we do this? 🤔
      Them: It's already done.. 😏
      Me: 🙄🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤣

If you have sedation, it includes Midazolam which reduces your ability to form new memories - and can stop any traumatic memories of the procedure.
