Yes the seat post design is horrible and time consuming. Carbon paste would have been great to use on the clamps, expander wedge and seat post, and stem clamp. When connecting the hydro hose to the lever; unclamp the band from the shifter to get full engagement despite the poor cable routing. A slipping/binding free hub is a serious safety concern. I’ve seen many customers get hurt due to this issue. Treat this issue with the seriousness it deserves. Congrats on the new bike. Awesome fun video.
The rear hub looks like the newer EXP version of the DT Swiss hub - I had one get stuck and fail to engage as well - turns out it was a known manufacturing issue and DT Swiss replaced it for free. Agree with you about the carbon bottle cages - the bottle friction wear grinds them out too quickly.
I have the same seatpost, if you want to change the angle more, you have to take the saddle off and flip the bottom part of the clamp (there is an indication on it with the range of motion, depending on which side it’s on) Once it’s on, it never moves, but I hate changing saddles on it 😅
@bicyclestation I love your youtube my new favorite channel you guys rock and are pretty funny at times reminds me of my friends and feels like I am there especially when you guys are doing builds
if you guys do build a crux, you should do one with that 5dev mod kit that allows you to run transmission. not sure if you need a (marginally) heavier groupset with a big 10-52 on a gravel race bike but itd be dope to see something like that out there in the wild
@@bicyclestation nice! only way to make that bike crazier is if you can find a crown race to run a tapercast or a judy. not that i havent been looking for one myself 🥲🥲🥲
That’s one of ENVE’s new Innerdrive hubs… and what’s with the lip on the inside of the rim? You need to pay Alfredo a visit. Otherwise, a fantastic bike and I’ll be on the look out for your frothy ride review.
I am assuming that they will just send a new one out no problem. But i haven't gotten around to calling them yet. We just stole one from another bike to finish this build.
ENVE wheel manufacturing quality is questionable. Tire selection is tested well by ENVE but even then those tests are internal and not standardized. They use hookless to enable steel tooling to form the inner rim surface to maintain tighter tolerances. Have had issues with these, at the join of these tools there’s a ridge that can cut your tape or allow air/sealant leakage past the tire bead. Hookless imo is not the most reliable option since there’s still debate whether ETRTO standards are required or suggested by both tire/wheel manufacturers. Oh, and their freehub design - although mirroring DT internals, is not very good. I’ve noticed lateral play in the freehub after a proper install. Had to live with this play until selling the wheels. They could be build with aftermarket hubs but for the price I think there’s better. ENVE wheel design concept is great though, the spoke nipple sits right where it enters the carbon and allows for shorter spokes which mean a stiffer wheel. ENVE seatpost is alright.. Haven’t noticed mfg issues with these but the 2 bolt cam clamp design is difficult to set. You have to be super patient with turning each screw slowly and evenly or your seatpost will creak. Also tilt is limited. Stems and bars are pretty good. No issues that I’ve noticed besides prices creeping up over the years.
I realize that part didn’t work but I don’t think what you’re saying isn’t fair at all. We have warranty claims from every manufacturer weekly. It’s a big part of a bike shops job to process the warranty claims for customers.
They kinda did exactly that. It’s a premium brand and I think the way they are aggressively marketing their product is really cool. I only see this converting more sales and it’s all ready working. Someone literally bought one in the middle of us making this video.
Absolute worst ad for enve ever. The freehub, the wide bars, the long cranks, no power meter, the do it all and do nothing well geometry, that thing is a dumpster fire for the price of a car, on which you need to spend thousands more to get the specs you actually want. And they have no track record as frame builders so there's absolutely no reason to trust them. I've been buying wheels from far sports for almost ten years now, I wouldn't blindly start buying their frames, wheels and frames are carbon, but very different activities.
We didn’t set out to make an ad for enve. These were our real unboxing and build impressions. But also we definitely think it’s a solid bike. We’re gonna do a full review later on also.
On the retail frames you can spec what width bars and stem length you want. These shop bikes were clearance rack for $3K and they were not given any options to pick from. It also looks like they were not QC'd as well - as evidence from the wheel imperfections and the broken hub. Hope whoever is racing this bike has dental insurance - I wouldn't trust that frame.
Nice video. I like your format guys. Worth the watch
Woah. I would so trust yall with my bikes
We’ve already built all your bikes🙌🏻

We put a different one in and it worked great. I’d concur it was just a defective one.

It's like a DT except not working. quote of the day.
Let’s go I can’t wait to see this new video!
I bought it which is so amazing !!
waiting for the future review
Stat active, stay fit, stay young, but not that young. 🤷🏼♂️
And you're all welcome, algorithms need feeding too.
Enve Wheels made their bones with Chris King hubs. It made them. Now going cheap house brand hubd has made Enve Wheels just another Hunt.
How small of an individual can get a bike discount? Under 130 lbs?
Great video- that hub was cringe. I hope they fix that
Haha it was. But yea no problem getting it fixed
Nutty to pay $12K for that bike. I know of guys who had to return them because of seat post problems.
sick build! Let me know how you like those tires, they felt really weird to me... like too sticky? Idk.
I am so confused on what size enve bars to buy now I am looking for enve aero bars for my gravel bike was thinking 44
That’s gonna be super narrow. Double check

Im so excited about that. I emailed them last night. Should be a future video.

Haha at the end of the day I think the epic WC is the best gravel bike on the market. I’m gonna go into in in an upcoming video
wow i feel bad for the bike 😂
Wait till it goes through a season of crit racing haha. But idk we think it’s a good bike from our first impressions of it.
I have exp hub on my dtswiss xmc wheels. You’ve got to much grease in the hub and you don’t have to tighten it.
That’s how it shipped to us. We didn’t alter it in any way in this video

What did ENVE say about the freehub body?

Alfredo did not clean up those spoke holes
This doesn’t make me want to pay full price for one. I’m tired of carrying the load for industry bros and influencers.
Tbh after seeing this I won't consider ENVE products. Unhinged they sold a bike shop faulty products.
I realize that part didn’t work but I don’t think what you’re saying isn’t fair at all. We have warranty claims from every manufacturer weekly. It’s a big part of a bike shops job to process the warranty claims for customers.
If enve want to put the bikes under peoples bums drop the price (simple)
They kinda did exactly that. It’s a premium brand and I think the way they are aggressively marketing their product is really cool. I only see this converting more sales and it’s all ready working. Someone literally bought one in the middle of us making this video.
I think @bicyclestation was clear and honest in the video that they can work with you to get Enve bike for a price you would both be happy!

No disrespect to you but I wouldn’t trust you near my bikes.
No disrespect but we don't trust you with ours either!
What do you think happens at a bike shop? I’ve seen worse in the operating room 😂
🤮🤮🤮
Does your tummy hurt?
Here's the deal, you two supposed grown men have an interaction more akin to 13 adolescents males, grow up!
Very hard to stomach. 🤷🏼♂️
