@@1rotzy Just want to point out that, to Lucien, the cards ended up true as well. Him absorbing the city was a kind of "rebirth" to him. It was casting off his previous form and becoming something better
I think the thing I love the most about this sequence, even more than how terrifyingly accurate the prediction ended to be, is how the ambience gradually changes alongside the reading. At first it's all fun and game, clearly Jester has no idea of what she's doing and this is just to pass time... But when she the second card is drawn, and it's the tyrant, something changes, it becomes accusatory and Jester engages serious mode. And then Death is drawn, and every thing is super tense. It's a threat. Even as Jester is pointing out that Death in Tarot means rebirth, it's clear that she's not thinking about Lucien's rebirth and he knows it... And he's scared.
What makes Lucien such a compelling and great final antagonist for me isn’t only the fact that he’s essentially a twisted corrupt Molly, but that the party takes the time to know him. To understand some what where he’s coming from and what kind of person he is compared to Molly, even if it was through the Nein being held against their will. Lucien is still an evil bastard, but he’s a person with goals and moments of weakness like everyone else. We would have never gotten this moment if the party didn’t decide to try to understand their enemy while they had the chance. Stuff like this is awesome to see in D&D
Too many people focus on the chance card reading of 'facing you is death.', but the 'Present' is far more important, symbolizing the constant battle of control between Lucian and Molly. All three of the cards were amazing, but the 2nd one feels the most important to me.
This is why I'm thinking Matt knew what numbers he wanted to pick, and the rest was just theatrics. Not that it's a bad thing, it still made for a great moment, just that it's reproduceable.

Sometimes, strange occurrences happen
Wait wait wait… in the final battle, it was always Lucien’s hand that went against his will when the party tried to remind him of who he once was. Could that twitch have been a hint that Mollymauk was listening?
In general I think anytime lucien reacted funny (a random laugh , a sudden feeling to not go as hard on the 9, his desire all along to have them follow him) was a hint towards mollys memories.
It's been a year since I commented, but I've read the Nine Eyes of Lucien and I can confirm that it is in fact Molly who made Lucien twitch. Throughout their travels with the M9, Molly was speaking with Lucien in his head.
The simple choice of Lucien using Jester's dress works volumes! It accents Jester's disarming charm by making Lucien approach her. It demonstrates Lucien's brazen confidence in his using her dress as a table. It even created a dark background to contrast with the colorful cards later on. Very skillful move.
