Sign me up!!! I'm so ready to give Blackberry another chance after seeing this square-wish, but adult marketed phone.
Finally a business device not a toy for spoiled children comparing the size of their genitals.
    Blackberry Passport, you rule!!!!!!!

I had an iphone 4s but decided to switch to the z10 after my iphone badly malfunctioned. I've never looked back since. It is by far the best phone I've ever owned. The blackberry hub and messaging system is surreal. Very underrated phones imo

I have the Z30. It's problem and headache free. Not as flashy or as "cool" as the IPhone but it you just want things to work like your calendar, email, etc., unlike Apple, it just works (I am referring to synching to your work)

It was a fair, objective review except for a couple of things: 1) this is not BlackBerry's last phone. There will be more announced at MWC in March. 2) You forgot to mention that the Passport (and all BlackBerry 10 phones) can run most Android apps, whether from a third party like Snap or 1Mobile or the Amazon App Store, which comes pre-loaded on the Passport. 3) NFC on BlackBerrys since 2011 has been able to share music, photos, files, app suggestions and mobile payments.

Passport: 13Mp/2Mp camera; 453 ppi; 18 hour GSM and 23 hours on UMTS talk time
    iPhone 6: 8mp/1.2mp camera; 326 ppi; 14 hour talk time on 3G

You failed to mention that in addition to "BB World" the AMAZON APPSTORE which comes preloaded on the Passport, allows you to install countless Android apps. BB OS 10.3x allows many Android apps to run perfectly fine on a BlackBerry so the App-GAP is closing fast.

    • @swav.zielin

I would venture to say, it's now closed with the latest OS.

Jamie Young Speaking for myself, all the apps I want I have. I check the Apple top apps and see if anything looks good and if I like it, and install either a native BB World version or the Android version if it's not made native. So the gap is closed for me. I don't see how it wouldn't for others if they are using the latest 10.3 OS which lets users install.
What won't work properly are the 2% of apps that include Google services, they'd still run but that part won't work because Google doesn't want to help a competitor.

You forgot to mention the ability to download Android apps from the Amazon App Store. If you are a power use, then the Blackberry Passport is a much better device. The battery life of the Passport is no match for the Iphone 6 plus. Overall a good review.

guys, blackberry is like apple in 1997 right when steve jobs returned to the company. Apple was at that time battered to the ground by IBM and microsoft. But steve jobs helped apple remember their roots about beautiful intuitive products for regular consumers that work seamlessly. And also apple was minority "different" unique brand. Blackberry i feel is the same way, except blackberry's focus is the business and productivity customer. I feel like blackberry got distracted and lost, but I feel like the remembered that their roots were built in productivity, and they went straight back to that. Blackberry blend proves it. I hope blackberry comes back like apple. I have a iPhone 5s now, but I am no fanboy and will consider blackberry if they make it a little smaller.
Anyone else see the parallels in 1997 apple and the 2014 blackberry? its quite interesting.

Blackberry wouldn't be the first corporation that acted on bad marketing advice and deviated from that what made them successful.
Let us not forget mighty Coca Cola in reaction to Pepsi (who hands down out scored them in blind taste tests) had Coke change their recipe to "New Coke" only to feel the backlash and revert back to "Coke Classic" soon after.
I applaud Blackberry (albeit it's getting a bit late in the game to win in the consumer ring). I hope they carve out their niche in this fickle market, amongst Enterprise users, government and those who value productivity over Candy Crush.
While they'll never be king of the hill again, they can still operate a successful enterprise.

    Specs:
iphone - 1.4ghz dual core cpu, 1gb ram, 16gb memory, mediocre camera with shaky video that's 1.2mp and 8mp, smaller shorter lasting battery, bendy plastic
Passport - 26 ghz quad core cpu, 3gb ram, 32gb memory, quality camera with stronger color and great video stabilization that's 2mp and 13mp, larger longer lasting battery, steel
Not counting the actual preference things like the neat keyboard with the touch-elements on the BB.
Only thing I can see better about the iPhone is the microphone (though both have good mics), larger fullscreen 16:9 video, and app selection. However, the BB OS10 does have support for Android apps so.... that kind of cancels out that.
Really, BlackBerry was falling behind during the OS7 gen but this phone is clearly superior just in specs alone. Looks like they really didn't want the company to die and stepped their game up. Its definitely showing. GG Apple.

Okay not to be rude but you have a lot of things wrong here.
#1. Iphone is not made of "bendy plastic". It's actually made of high quality aluminum.
#2. The passport is not made of "steel". Its made of higher quality plastic.
#3. Its kinda sad how the passports specs are better than the iphone's but yet it's not more powerful than the Iphone. Iphone's single core is around 1625 to the passports 788.... Thats almost DOUBLE and the passport has 3gb of ram LOL Specs are not everything.
#4. Iphone has WAY more features. Siri, fingerprint scanner and so on. Not to mention the iphone is lighter, slimmer and overall looks wayyyy nicer than the blackberry.
#5 Don't even get me started on the apps, which blackberry barley has.
This was blackberry's last chance to become something. I am sorry but this phone is not going to make it. Don't even compare the iphone 6 plus to this thing. Blackberry should fight against that Amazon phone, you know, the other phone no one cares about. lol that was mean, but the truth. Then again it just all depends on what you want. Just get whatever your little heart desires and be happy with it. Good day to you sir/mam.

      XxMikePS3GamingxX/ Naruto Revolution Videos!
just a few corrections there blackberry passport is also made from a metal frame with high quality heavy plastic, apps barely different to apple store if you install snap, and blackberry now has something that is known to beat siri and so far I have found this true and with latest updates its faster at recognising you. Also you'll find the speed tests that he uses are side loaded they do not support bb software correctly there is no real way of measuring the true power of the passport. But overall both phones are different and for different people and its up to the individual, I chose to stay with blackberry as its more of a adult phone and business orientated while iPhone to me is more a teenagers simple phone for the general person.

Hated Blackberrys before I got the 9900 running BB7 totally fell in love with it I have a Q10 now, BB10 OS is in my opinion the best OS out there and Apple and Google seem to be cherry picking the best bits outta BB10 and claiming "the next revolution in productivity" don't get me wrong I loved my Iphone and Galaxy S3 but missed the physical keyboard of my 9900 so went and and jumped on the Q10 in February of this year and I was blow away not only with the fantastic and gorgeous build quality of it but the BB10 OS is as I've said the best out there. Plus people who say "Blackberry have no apps" well I'm apptastic thanks, what with OneMobileMarket, appitode and Amazon Ive got more apps than I could shake that new BB Passport Im tempted to get at! :) Not sure wether to wait for the Classic/Q20 or go all "out there" and go Passport. Not a BB fanboy just bored to death with false promises of IOS and Android.

BlackBerry for life, but don't forget Google snap which is pretty much the Google play store

    • @mjay5783
      @mjay5783 9 лет назад +3

SNAP is awesome! If your a BB10 user and don't have SNAP your crazy its, for people that don't know the full GOOGLE PLAY STORE (minus a few non important bits and pieces and crappy APPS) so to put it in simple terms as a BB10 user I have full access to pretty much every APP out there apart from APPLE's own APPS. - Full access to everything in BBWorld (obviously) Amazon APP store full access to GOOGLE PLAY and what with the excellent ONEMOBILEMARKET and APTITODE. I have access to an estimated 1,870,000 APPS - Yes thats one million eight hundred and seventy thousand APPS (www.statista.com/statistics/276623/number-of-apps-available-in-leading-app-stores/) 1.3M in GOOGLEPLAY 240k in AMAZONAPPSTORE, 130k in BBWORLD and 50-100k in ONEMOBILEMARKET and APTITODE so compared to APPLE's 1.2 million, I think as a BB10 user for people to say we don't have APPS I think they should read a few of the facts out there, fair enough they dont all work perfectly some don't work at all but still I'm all good and have more than enough to choose from so in terms of the APP world I'm sitting pretty close to the top of it thank you :) and just ordered a Passport after having a play with one in CarPhoneWear-house in Birmingham people really should consider it, the build quality and the OS is unreal, People need to think outside of the box (square screen and all, no pun intended:) and as I've mentioned in previous comments Im no Blackberry fan boy but when the few handsets they have out there at the mo are really that good they can't be ignored and the OS really does trouse IOS8 and ANDROID KITKAT/LOLLIPOP in my opinion, plus the keyboards are without question the best mobile keyboards ever made some people may argue the fact that virtual keyboards are as good if not better than physical keyboards but thats one thing I won't be budged on, the web browser is again the best mobile browser out there and BLACKBERRY's security can't be overlooked, I can feel safe knowing GOOGLE AND APPLE aren't checking out my pictures, messages, browser history and what ever else they want to help themselves too not that I have anything to hide! Once again I will probably have millions of angry APPLE and ANDROID users with the keyboard fingers waiting to slay my comment down but its all truth and facts, so at the moment you won't get me to move away from the BB platform and if more people gave it a try I think they'd be of the same mind set, what also doesn't help is dumb salesmen an women telling customers, as I overheard in the Tesco phone shop local to where I live telling a customer who was actually asking to buy a Blackberry that Blackberry has gone bust and no longer exist, I had to step in and advise the customer to really go home and do there handset shopping on the net that way they would get a true reflection of whats "hot and whats not" as it were! Anyway Ive rambled on long enough and what with the Passport being one of if not the best selling phones on Amazon right now and selling out as soon as they restock plus the Classic/Q20 creeping up behind it I hope we'll see Blackberry make a bit of a comeback and go someway to recapturing a little more of the market, I think the days of BB having some 30 odd percent are long gone but they certainly deserve more than the 3 percent they currently hold.

  • @droid007

One of the better reviews, kudos for using the Passport a while before the comparison, some testers just open the box and review a phone they never used before with their own daily driver.
I would like to see how the iPhone6 compares to the year old BB Z30. I think the processor comparison is maybe wrong seems odd a slower processor with less cores and less ram has a higher score? Where did you get the benchmark test from Majid Syed? Maybe its more optimized for ios. For me testing of phone stuff like signal range for the antenna and WiFi/Bluetooth signal range, microphone and speaker quality is helpful as well as durability, battery life and most important security if we are going to be using these devices as a wallet security is top priority for everyone which would boost BlackBerry back up. Also was wondering does the Passport come with a HDMI plug?

    • @msoltysiakk
      @msoltysiakk 10 лет назад +7

That benchmark test was rubbish because it was over the web and a single tasking application. If it was optimized for iOS, I don't know. The real benchmark would be to open up a tone of apps in the background. The Passport would win easily. The more cores you have, the more efficient the device will run, along with a lower clock frequency, improving the battery life. That Passport will last for 2 days on a single charge under heavy usage.

I had: Iphone 3s, Motorola Milsetone II, Motorola Atrix II, Nexus 4, Iphone 4s, Nexus 5, HTC one m7 and lastly Blackberry Z30. Almost all of them were top notch at their time, but none of them compare to the Z30, amazing phone, best kept secret. Now that I really know how far from the others OS is Blackberry 10 (10.3) I cant wait for the Passport.

Ive been running on blackberry now for 6/7 years now,and currently still using the 9900!
Its in full working order, mic still clear ,sound quality in calls still clear, signal still strong as the day i bought it,and ive dropped it numerous of time inside and outside, concrete, tile, wet dry, still works!!
As with my other blackberrys, they all still work!
Everybody i know has or HAD a iphone and they have had MORE than 1 weather it be replacement phone or screens etc,am still using the same phone 3 years later ok,am a very heavy user!!
If you want a hard wearing,24hr use, secure, good quality in call sound, reliable strong signal go for a blackberry, they are a REAL user's phone!
If you wanna watch porn, music, films, snap chat those little girls on you're lunch break, leave you're phone vulnerable to doggy apps etc(i could go on) then apple is for you.
Now before all you apple crunching fans start laying into me and sending death threats, its a good smart fun phone, but i just think there are better examples out there
,look beyond the sleek design, things in life are not what they seem to be sometimes.....

I agree with most of the other comments. Majid you could have also spoken about the blend feature and the amazon app store integration which is in built with 10.3 OS. Does not seem like you had a chance to use the full potential of the beast of a passport. With the 10.2 software update blackberry allows the user to directly download and install android apk files without the need to even hooking it up to a computer or the need to convert it into a bar file. As a person hungry for knowledge, I felt the video comparison could have been far better with more relevant information. I'd give a 2 out of 5 for the so called comparison.

Something to add on from someone that's been using the BB 10.3 OS for a while is that it seems to learn and adapt to what you're talking about when you're using SMS/BBM/Email/etc. Meaning the word suggestions that tend to pop up changes based on the topic of the conversation. I haven't used iOS 8 so I don't know if it does that too or not but I found it to be a useful feature.

I think having a PassPort in your hand can get more attention from people than carrying an iPhone 6 around... so for those who want to showoff people.. you should go for the PassPort. It really suits your need and it's more in trend than having an iPhone 6... cuz people will get excited just for the first few months and then they'll see it more and more and finally get used to it.. unlike having a BlackBerry People will always get excited and wondering about the phone all the time... not just for the passport though cuz even my 1 year old (almost 2) Z10 get attention from tons of people around hahahaha. Just to unlock the phone can make their eyes wide open for months cuz they never figure out how I unlock my phone hahahahaha

Well the camera, stabilization and sound quality in the BB definitely looked and sounded better to me. And you forgot to mention the main difference.. the cell phone reception in any BB is always about 30% better than any iPhone. I have a Q10 and 5s, and while there is half signal in the q10, I have just about 10-15% reception (Using the same service provider 'T Mobile'). You should have also mentioned about the Amazon App store :)
    Thanks for the unbiased review.

The main thing on any phone is the phone lol... but reviewers hardly never mention the signal, sound and microphone quality, well he did test speakers kudos for that and lots of other good stuff in the review and he actually used it for a while, that's why it was a good review. I notice on my BB Z30 gets better signal both in cell reception and WiFi than the Iphone5, laugh at my bro when he has to go outside in -40 at the ski shack to make a call and I can still call from inside lol... and any Iphone in my house on the WiFi looses signal upstairs from the router and I get a few bars still... I wonder if the Passport has quad mics like on my Z30? when I make a video and watch after on the big screen with surround sound stereo the sound comes out awesome like on surround sound movies where the Iphone video sound is kind of muffled.

A lot of people don't realize how great the Blackberries and their OS are. The HUB makes it so much easier to access all your messages and social media than any other phone plus BB10.3 runs Amazon app store so you can get just about any Android app. The Passport is impressive. I know Blackberry has been cast aside since Iphone came out and become the cool phone to have but you're missing out. If you get a chance to try out a Blackberry 10 phone do it, specially the Passport. If you want a crystal clear screen, better camera, better sound, better muli-tasking and battery life get the Passport.

funny how everytime apple beats bb for a certain feature, ue always compare the two device and whenever bb passport kicks ip6+ ass, he always compare the 6+ to the older iphones just to make it look good.
u also forgot blackberry blend, time shift, and that bb10 devices can run both native blackberry apps and android apps.

really wish he did a side by side opening 6 apps at the same time. You'll see how much faster the Passport is and how much easier it is to switch between apps and messaging on the Blackberry 10 OS. Also because of the physical keyboard you can do things without even opening an app. You can type "tweet I wish I had a Passport. all all you have to do is hit Post and it'll post it for you without even opening the app. I'm definitely posting a video once I get mine.

As for the benchmark, it should be noted that the Geekbench app running on the Passport is the Android version, as a native version doesn't exist. Considering this, the performance wasn't that far off, which is amazing since it's not optimized or written as a native app for the BB10 platform.

He forgot to mention all the faulty issues with iOS 8 like the iCloud hacking scandal, the iPhone 6 Bluetooth connectivity issue with cars, Apple pulling back its faulty software update which left phones unusable, the iPhone 6 Plus device bending under pressure, a rather nasty bug that exposed yet another major Apple security flaw with their HealthKit apps, and the U2 album that was invasively installed in everyone’s iCloud account without anyone’s permission. Also a variety of processes the bb can do that the iPhone can't. I think the individual reviewing phones needs to mention everything as a whole to have a proper comparison.

Pretty biased review. Didn't mention phone calls, emailing messaging, switching between apps and customisation. Benefits of blackberry 10 is hotkey speed dialling, a multitasking screen that lets you switch between apps with the flick of a finger, blackberries universal inbox with customisable filters and customisable quick settings. Ontop of that there's qwerty navigation and the ability to use the keyboard as a trackpad (navigating without needing to touch the screen). Doesn't make sense to ignore the features that make a difference.

One of the best, most subjective reviews I've had the pleasure of viewing. The only thing I would add is that BlackBerry has atleast 2 new phones plans the Classic in November and a new device for next year. Also for apps you neeed to talk about the 300 000+ apps that BlackBerry can get from the Amazon App Store.

Aluminum is not a "premium quality material". It's week and the reason Apple used it is because it's cheap. They certainly could have used titanium but it would have cost more. You are right that BlackBerry has a micro SD slot but it expands to 128 Gb, not 64 Gb like you said. That is in addition to the 32 Gb already built in which gives it a total of 162 Gb

I do not understand why people are raging claiming that the passport is an "ugly" phone. You are comparing a square to a rectangle. It is a phone, not a beauty piece nor is it a form of personal adornment. Get over it.

I still am using s a Blackberry 9700 for my phone. I run a business and really don't use it for entertainment but when I want to watch a video or something for any reason I can. I have been looking to move up to a newer phone and have been shopping. I like the LG G3, Amazon Fire Phone, iPhone 6, Samsung S5 when I checked them out in the stores. Too bad Amazon really did not pan out so that was crossed off but I like the LG format a lot and Samsung. I was thinking about waiting for the Windows 9 phone because I currently use a Surface Pro 3 and use that for my laptop and any entertainment like movies etc.
I then saw the Blackberry and since I need to respond to e-mails on the go I love the way Blackberry does e-mail. The way iPhone lets you see e-mail notifications while you are looking at e-mail in dual screen mode is really nice though. I think it's screen is really nice and would let me see video fine. The fact that there are 200,000 + apps seems fine for BB but to thing that there are a million more on iPhone its kinda makes you think you are missing something. But I don't think I will based on my use.
Plus I am just different. LOL

Get the blackberry z30, it's like the iPhone 6, but better, I've used iPhones, the galaxy s3 and 4, the HTC one and a lot of other phones but I like blackberry better, it's like an iPhone and Android combined, there are few apps in blackberry world(appstore) but you can sideload them or just install Google snap which is pretty much the Google play store, you get all the android apps on there

Most films are now 16:9, the Passport is 4:3, how do you propose they do full screen. When you cast a movie to a TV from the Passport it's in 16:9. The Passport is a business phone, not really meant to consume media. I absolutely love my Passport for this reason, there's already 100's of phones out there that cater too media consumption. I need a phone for communicating, reading/editing documents, surfing, eBook/PDF reading, etc. for the other stuff I have an Nvidia Shield, which is the best possible device for what your looking for.

160 gig total and the Z30 and the Passeport are Usb Host (able to read usb key, connect a usb keyboard, and usb mouse). The fonction Miracast give the possibility to send the picture on Hdmi Tv. Also Wifi direct option, NFc....

I'd like to know how the keyboard actually works with Passport in the hand over time. I tried Passport in the store and found the keyboard really low on the device, meaning that to hold the phone securely I used two hands pretty low on the device, and my thumbs were kind of facing each other, changing the typing experience. It's making me hesitate. Also the non-removable battery just irks me - used to be a real differentiation / selling feature for BB. At the moment my iPhone 4s battery is crapping out and I'm done w iPhone because of that alone. Finally I'd have liked more discussion of how Blend and amazon apps really worked for our reviewer. Anyway, very good comparison and thanks for it.
