    Its a very nice touch to leave in the airbrush sounds, didn't notice it before but now that they're in it makes it quite a bit easier to understand how to use the tools.

      It is indeed a nice touch.
      I used them like this already, but got the idea it was not how you are "supposed to" use them due to how others are using them.
      Though if I understand correctly your paint tends to dry faster in the nozzle of the airbrush if you use it like this. (Meaning more cleaning and possible clogging).

    I get so excited whenever I see one of your videos pop up on my feed! You have really challenged what I know and have been told about mini painting. From color theory and mixing paints, to the use of different mediums and techniques, you always have me thinking about learning new ways to paint that make it more fun to me! I think you are the best source for improving skills while also making the emphasis about enjoyment and ease of access to painting. Seriously, before coming to your channel I always had issues with understanding painting with acrylics. I just never "got" it and it was not always enjoyable. I still use acrylics for the mid tones and some extreme highlights, but since using oils, my whole process and enjoyment has changed. I'm having a blast mixing and painting with oils and I feel like I'm always very happy about the results. You turned painting minis into something I never wanted to start into something I do to relax and have fun! I want to thank you with this thanks. Cheers and thank you so much!

      Hey Stephen, I, have had almost the exact experience as you, always having issues with painting with acrylics, and I just don't "get" painting. I have yet to reach this enjoyability with painting, and I keep making models that look terrible. I'm hoping that Marco sees my other comment on here and would be willing to make a troubleshooting video as I'm not sure how I keep messing this up, but I do. Model after model looks bad, and I keep trying to follow what Marco does in the videos but I can never seem to get good results. It seems easy, after priming put a base layer down of acrylic pants. Next, put down darker oil paints over those first colors. Wipe off the oil after a few minutes and have pretty decent results. This is what I am currently aiming for something I am doing or not doing is making this look terrible.
      I really hope that Marco can help with another video or that it suddenly clicks for me, because I'm about to just cover all of the models I currently have in a single color and leave it at that.

    Astonishing results as always. I've adopted oils in the last few weeks and I love them. The most perplexing part for me is the choice of colours for the priming I can see the sense in the colour theory explanation of the violet/green/flesh progression, but every time I think about how to approach a given model I can't work out my own combinations. I know this is explained in a lot of videos for that video's subject, but perhaps how to come up with the colours as generalised principles would be a useful "Basics" video?

    I completely get the rule of cool on giving them a bit extra height, but also the pain of modeling for disadvantage. My Splintered Fang also have a bit of extra height since I have them all standing on sections of board walk. With the Serpent Caller, I just had to make them into Florida Men and Everglades themed.

    Crazy how the green on the blue gloves pops compared to the same colour on the model, perfectly demonstrating your explanation about colour theory. Finding the Golden colours is not super difficult here, but finding the tones you want in stock is, so I'll try it with Molotow Grass Hopper Green. I'm getting some of the Liquitex gouache to try (my Schmincke titanium white finally died, anyway) , but again, mostly out of stock :(

    Hi Marco, awesome job! Idk if it would be intresting for you, to me it would be cool to see a video in which you use spray cans to do the airbrush part, i started doing it to do the zenital highlight in stead of the white paint, then it took over me and started doing two opposite lights to make miniatures more intresting without spanding on an airbrush. In particular to me would be awesome to see which colours go well together and which atmosphere they make (that would be awesome even done with the airbrush). I´m trying to replicate the Oil Wash Style for some time now - but whenever it comes to the makeup-sponge phase - after that there is basically nothing left on the miniature except the deepest recesses that don´t really look good but smudgy-rough. Could the sponges be too "soaky" or is it more liekly that the oil are too diluted? I´m Using "Abteilung" Oils - so the amount of pigments should not be the problem i guess...

      Thanks!!! That's definitely always an option but here I wanted super sharp lines and textures without any real blend and acrylics do this particular job really well and super quickly!

    I was very excited about trying this process out. And I selected AK Interactive Dual Exo paint for the first prime/layer. Unfortunately, Dual Exo paint does not live up to this process at all. This paint rubs off with just simple handling. Many other brands and types of acrylic will likely work, by not AK Interactive Dual Exo Dirty Red applied with an airbrush.

    Aren't you having issues with the doser bottle mineral spirits? I read they aren't really compatible and thus degrade

    Fantastic, Marco!
    Did you use X-22 on the potion bottles for the gloss effect, or a different clear coat? Does the X-22 go well with the brush too?

    Ciao Marco data la complementarietà dei colori può funzionare un approccio che inverte il verde e il "viola" per dare la luce ambientale verde? o sono necessari altri accorgimenti?

    Did you matt varnish them at 6:00? They look way matter than during the application of the primer + ink

    • @fraserskomorowski2311
      @fraserskomorowski2311 2 года назад +2

      The thinned-down oil wash leaves that matte finish naturally, without needing a varnish. Marco mentioned this effect in a past washing-with-oils sequence in a video on this channel, I just can't find it for you to reference. Hopefully, another viewer might provide a link.

    • @ikkiiiieee
      @ikkiiiieee 2 года назад +1

      I don't think you watched the time stamp around 6:00 he has yet to apply oils.
      Oil wash does not leave a matte finish naturally. It is dependent on the specific pigment of the oil paint / paint itself + the finish of the paint (acrylic) underneath

    Hey Marco, could you make a troubleshooting video? I have been trying your style of painting but my models look like trash after I've wiped them down, even before that they look terrible. I don't know what I am messing up on and it's frustrating making model after model looks bad and not knowing what is happening. For example, I've tried using magenta on the model's skin (after putting a base skin tone down) and the end result looks like I just took a magenta wash and placed it directly into the recesses of the model. There is no gradient, no staining of the underlayer, just a hard transition to magenta.

    • @MarcoFrisoniNJM
      @MarcoFrisoniNJM  Год назад

      Inks (or honestly any highly pigmented paint), water and medium are all you need! It's so easy that it doesn't even deserve a video 😉 just make a few experiments to find the balance of dilution/transparency you like!

    What do you use to thin your Oil Paints? Generally when I try to apply them without varnishing the model first they tend to strip layers of paint.

      In the video about oils he said he uses natural spirit, he doesnt like much the specific solvents because they clean to much the minis

    • @SparkSovereign
      @SparkSovereign 2 года назад +2

      White spirit doesn't strip paint chemically, but if you rub too hard you might pull it off physically, especially if you're working over a very thin airbrush layer. I've seen people try using turpentine, though; that definitely *will* strip acrylic paint chemically, so avoid that!
