    I loved the message that the second movie told, Ivan was right by 1989 New York was suffering financially, it was overcrowded, high unemployment rate and most New Yorkers were pissed off so to highlight that in the movie and to try and lift the spirits up (no pun intended) of residents of NY was a great angle. I watched GB2 when I was a kid and they made New York a character and last year I finally was able to vacation to NY, obviously different from 1989 but that movie made it feel magical. Thanks Ghostbusters for making New York special for me.

      Lots to like about it. But I get the criticism. Gozer is just a bigger seeming threat, with a cooler lair. Plus the beginning seems to waste time putting the gang back together. Some people probably don't like that the lady had a kid with someone other than Peter, or that they broke up(which makes sense), or that they redo their romance instead of just being a different person. the story could have used a different ghostbuster, and a different woman, her job isn't even the same.
      that aside, the characters are awesome, like the river, like the statue, ect.

    I'm cautiously looking forward to Ghostbusters: Afterlife and I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed that it's as good as everyone is hoping. Ghostbusters 2016 lowered the bar practically to the floor, but the first two films are the real bar Afterlife has to contend with. I hope it will measure up. Over the years I've read some things about Aykroyd's other pitched treatments and they had some very interesting ideas that incorporate current understandings of quantum physics while staying true to the feel of Ghostbusters, which I really like. I wonder what if anything from those treatments will make it into Afterlife.

      I don't think it will be funny ... funny to 12 year olds who like stranger things but not to adult fans. It has the architecture of stranger things and even fin wulfhard as a head start... Also the casting is worrysome because paul rudd was in another disaster bridge gap sequel known as halloween 5... and hes supposed to be the "comic relief" ... I'm not saying rudd isn't funny but hes like... the funny guy on 90210 not second city funny. Like hes been in comedies but its very pedestrian its like if a dad tried to do an impersonation of ace ventura for their kid but it doesn't work... I don't dislike him but I never thought he was standout funny he probably would have been better as a writer and not on screen at all realistically. and just for the record yes he did have a good performance in halloween 5... but in the spirit of the spirit world I'm saying paul rudd is a sign that afterlife is not only not funny and looks like typical netflix architecture and cinematography but that they are actually hop scotching GB2 ... For one thing the Ecto-1 was hot rodded into the 1A so now magically the Ecto-1 has been in storage with 1984 plates? before the 1986 plates celebrating 100 years of lady liberty on the 1989 1A I know that's a debate but most other literature mentions how they upgraded the Ecto-1 and re-christened it the 1A not an additional or secondary vehicle to the fleet.... I think this is reitman doing what he wants and felt more feels for GB1... emphasis on stay puft... terror dogs... etc. They are bridging GB2 ... The fact that they didnt know the name of Wilhelm von Homburg ( vigo ) or that he was a boxer is also very telling... they just dont care. There was also drama when they over dubbed his voice with Max Sydow... but there is only GB1 and GBII shot on 35mm... some years ago I got to see GB on 35mm film reel with scratches and all... THAT was "Ghostbusters" Just like when someone says "Star Wars" to me that is synonymous with "a new hope"... Maybe the trilogy but certainly not the prequels and especially not the awful disney direction and baby yoda especially. So I just see a fan film for daddy that is no different than any other dork with an ecto replica making it for youtube. I'm sure they haphazardly wrote the 1A reasoning somewhere in the film but I won't be in a state of shock if they didn't and just expect people to say oh okay... no continuity and paul rudd..... whats next... are we going to cast Zak efron as jack nicholson for a shining reboot? or jennifer lawrence as freddy kreuger .... Everything is terrible and unfortunately there was a golden era of cinema in the 80s and now we are in a draught.. It's just not going to be the high voltage amperage in a jar that was cradled in the 1980s of the 20th century. You know what was good thats newish? "Bumblebee" great standalone film and probably the best spin off ive ever seen. Afterlife will just feel like stranger things clashed with the new IT movies... which are both not bad.... BUT pander completely to the obnoxious spoiled generation z who currently hold the world hostage with awful tik tokking and cancelling of anything else other than tik tokking. Afterlife will be like Rocky 5... guarantee it.... but of course the boobs and kiss asses will be like OOOO WOWWW.... I'm so sick of kiss asses and I'm so sick of cop outs in writing.... Like... yeah Michael Keaton is back... as Batman why? Because no one is satisfied with Ben afflek or the twilight vampire... and in.... the flash.... the flash? who the fuck cares about ... the flash? And for this to be possible we now have to open up ( again just a cop out of terrible writing ) the possibility of "the multiverse" ( an awfully written portmanteau that is hiding its true meaning in the suffix) ... People don't understand fundamental physics and pretend to wrap their head around these concepts and this is why they are written in.. and in reality its a 5 year old mindset of cop outs and imagination just writing their way out of shitty ideas and bridging sequels with deus ex machina 99% of what people are into is the worst cliche in ALL of history of story telling DEUS EX MACHINA.... It's awful and simple. just the camera work alone in endgame is terribly generic. So all you can do... indulge in the past as played out as it is because it only existed in it's present. I'm tired of kids being placed into adult movie reboots like this.. Venkman would be cancelled today for half of the flirtation.

      The quality was a relief, and the casting--superb.

    I was disappointed that the last video had not highlighted Ernie as Winston. Good to see him shown some love here. "If there is a steady paycheck in it; I'll believe anything you say!" is possibly the most relatable movie quote of all time.

    I loved GB 2. It's one of my favorite movies of all time. I grew up near NYC so i always enjoy seeing it on film. As a kid in the 80s/90s Ghostbusters was part of my childhood. Happy to share it with my kids now.

    This video needs to have more views even as a year passed by. They finally get Ernie Hudson the credit and love he deserved as the 4th Ghostbuster. The way his character was relegated as a simple stand in is just criminal, but here both Dan and Ivan make him center important as he should be. I now understand that AFTERLIFE may not touch upon the Game sadly, and I think it would had been best they did as part of the Canon and like in the game mention that Winston got his Doctor's Degree in Egyptology. Oh well, I get that it was a game but even they feel it to be the 3rd one in the story. I will still love the movie when it comes out and in my heart the game too and its lore may also be my personal Fan fic tie in with the new film anyway... Come to think of it, it may well still fit considering that the game takes place 2yrs after GBs 2, and it also involved part of what this new film has... If not it will not harm either anyway.

      Admittedly I'm not a big gamer, I have the Ghostbusters game and it's a lot of fun. But I can't count it as Canon. A movie Is a movie and a game is a game. Like when someone writes a comic and it's supposed to be officially a sequel to a movie. I can't accept it somehow.

    • @EternalRoman
      @EternalRoman 2 года назад

      @@davidwalsh1012 I can understand that, though the thing is that the game was written and worked on by the creators and writers of the movies themselves and they considered it the 3 part of the movie story.

    I will never really understand why so many people for so long disliked Ghostbusters two. Today it feels like it’s getting the respect it deserves and I admit it’s not as good as the first one but if a movie reviewer looks at the first movie and gave it high marks and then watches the second movie and just hates it, that’s just something I don’t understand. It’s not like it was drastically different from the first one, and that’s really why I loved it it gave me more of what I loved. I’m glad today with all the problems in the world in 2021 that at least Ghostbusters is alive and well. Me my brother, and our nephews have re-watch both movies and the cartoon series and we can’t wait for Ghostbusters afterlife to come to the movie theater.

      If I'm not mistaken Dan has already talked about one of the scripts where I think he said it was something along the lines of Ghostbusters and Hell. I have no idea what the second one would be referring to.Also the new one coming out is penned by Jason as Dan mentions, so the actual movie coming out isn't even with Dan's 3rd idea that apparently "they went with". G3 has been on the production table and off so many times.

    LET ME BE CLEAR... I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR A PART 3 SINCE 1991... I remember over the 90s all the rumors of a part 3 that was SUPPOSED to get made and never did... Then sadly time flew by, of course everyone got older and even more sadly Harold Ramis passed away... It was then I realized there will never be a part 3 and there couldn't be a part 3... I remember how mad I would get thinking Sony should have just made a part 3 in the 90s and all the controversy if Bill would be a part of it.... It's actually tragic at this point.. So to hear Ivan Reitman say he thinks there will be a part 3 is like playing with my emotions. As much as I would love it, it can't happen anymore... This is why they should have never sat on the idea of it for 2 decades and just made it in the 90s... I know how dramatic my comment sounds but it's true and I'm a huge fan... I wont even speak on the movie that was made a few years ago because to real Ghostbusters fans that movie doesn't exist in our universe and should have never been made but anyway...

    My pitch for Ghostbuster 3. Early in the film, Venkham dies (heroically of course), then comes back as a ghost to assist his Ghostbusting buddies. He acts as a conduit between the spirit and the living worlds. There could a scene where he meets his grandparents (both died when he was a boy) and 3 of his deceased dogs, to learn more about his character. But the main story would be whatever bad buy the Ghostbusters are fighting, with Venkman's ghostly assistance. Maybe at the end, they all pass on. And move into 'the light'....fade to....white! Too late now, but a great idea I thought.

    I don't know how it happened. I saw Ghostbusters 2 opening night when I was 10 and was disappointed. I watched it many times through the 90s and 00s, and never thought it had redeemed itself. In fact, I always thought I'd noticed even more problems. Yet today, every time I see it I enjoy every minute of it. I don't think it's anywhere close to the perfection of Ghostbusters, but I'm always up for a viewing of the sequel these days. For better or worse, nostalgia's a powerful thing.

    They really stuffed the reboot down the memory hole as we get ready for Ghostbusters Afterlife. I think that they want to forget about the last one and make it like it never happened and move on with one of the better scripts developed by Dan, who is by the way, my favorite of any of them. I never really latched on to Bill Murry as a person or actor.

    • @metheus108
      @metheus108 4 года назад

      There is that, but also this interview is from 2014, before the reboot was an idea. You can't really ask questions about a movie that doesn't exist yet, and it's obvious that GB2016 was an anomaly that was not based on the scripts they are talking about. Although "what would you think about the GB being redone for a new generation by someone that isnt you" could be a question. I'd be asking that one to the older actors, writers and directors now for sure considering how quickly IPs can change hands these days.
