    The hold-M and click a switch for the in game manual has to be one of the best innovations I've ever seen in flight simming.

      I agree. That seems extremely useful compared to alt-tabbing to a PDF. Having it in-game is going to be so comfortable when learning the plane.

    If other Cold War aircraft want to continue selling, developers will have to greatly improve their modules. The F-4E is revolutionary.

      Fully agreed. Other 3rd party and ED will need to play the catch up game after this one. Even the HB's own Tomcat will be asking a facelift (yes, it is coming too).

      This or lower prices. I'm fine with a less impressive module if I can get it at a discount or more often. Then we'd have three types of prices depending on complexity, FC3-types modules, standard modules and component-based modules.

      Yeah, one reason I always buy Heatblur planes, even if I don't love flying them as much as the newer planes that I'm more used to. They just do so much cool stuff with the game that I'm more than happy to keep supporting them financially. The F-4 looks like I'll probably get more joy out of it than the F-14. Granted, I may finally tuck into learning both and try to pry myself away from the helicopters.

    Casmo, another informative video. Basic navigation is a skill I think all pilots, including sim pilots should learn. We do tend to get caught up with modern tools, such as GPS. The Phantom pushes us back a bit. I did learn on VOR and NAV radios, so this was a nice refresher. I’m a huge fan of your combat ready series, so keep them coming.

    • @aaronwhite1786
      @aaronwhite1786 7 месяцев назад +2

      That's always my issue. I've become so used to using the fancy MFD navigation, where I can easily just follow a path that's been pre-selected on a map that shows me my location. I think I might do a nice little flight around the Persian Gulf map, stopping off at various airbases and navigating between them using old school navigation.

    • @PappyGunn
      @PappyGunn 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@aaronwhite1786That's what I do for every new aircraft including this one, a little trip around the map. You know, aviate, navigate and all that. I was raised on steam guages and GPS navigation is a luxury for me.

    • @aaronwhite1786
      @aaronwhite1786 7 месяцев назад

      @@PappyGunn Oddly, that's all the opposite for me. I grew up playing all of the Fighters Anthology games, Flanker 2.5 and Lock-On, leading into DCS. I guess I played a good bit of Il-2, but as a kid I never really learned how to properly fly without the HUD.
      Now going back to the old steam gauge planes, I'm trying to force myself to relearn how to properly fly without the HUD and all of the other fancy technology.
      So with the F-4 I figured I would finally just force myself to learn how to fly the real way, using the gauges and radio beacons by just flying around the Persian Gulf map doing an air patrol and stopping at a few bases for refueling along the way.

Also really enjoyed your twitch stream (that I sadly found after the fact - but really nice stream and first time I saw the start up of the F4E so I have that open on my browser and will have a quick look tomorrow before I attempt a cold start myselfe). Take care Sir and Stay safe! I hope you continue making some F4E videos!!! Also thank you for your AH64 videos - they have been really helpful for a nob like me!

    I must admit, I was VERY harsh with Heatblur for the last 3 months, especially the last few weeks. But now that I have owned this thing for a few days, I am eating crow. My apologies HB. So far I have not encountered any bugs or glitches, and if I have, I don't realize it and it was very minor This is the most fun I have had in DCS in a long time since the Tomcat came out, another Heatblur product. Not only the F4, but the addition of all the static structures and AI aircraft, like the Kiowa. Being able to drive a tug is just fun. I can't wait to see the cinematics with all the new stuff. I don't have the Kola map yet, not enough HD space. I have a 2 TB on the way so that's coming soon. With all the content creators like Casmo in overdrive right now, this is truly the golden age of DCS and flight sim in general. Well done sir

    Awesome video. Thanks for sharing. Just so that that no one is confused. A VOR/DME are VOR's that also provide Distance Measuring Equipment to the VOR station. While VOR/DME's are more commonly used in civil aviation. TACAN's are used more commonly in military operations. The TACAN operates in the UHF band and its frequency ranges from 960 to 1215 MHz. It also allows simpler and smaller emitters compared to a VOR.

      And the VORTAC (combination VOR and TACAN). Some very interesting and odd looking ground based transmitters to see in person! Former airfield Electrician at EWR and LGA (learned the airfield lighting and electrical system at 17, while a junior in a NJ Vo-tech high school. Sooo glad that I learned to navigate via old-school when I got my PPL in 1998. None of the school's fleet had the new tech (GPS) nor autopilots. Didn't use any of that until years later, lol. Love the Garmin G1000 😂

    Helpful, but could be better: show how to switch to VOR, or NDB or Navpoints and how to set that up on the display HSI with those 2 selector knobs. You went kinda quickly on that and concentrated on the TACAN. I am fiddling with those now. Like, I can read the HSI just fine, I don't need even more needles telling me where to go. ILS is the obvious exception, but I never bother with FDs on other types of navigation. If anything I think it takes more concentration to watch it than ignore it.
