Let me stop you right at the beginning for a minute. You designed and drafted a crochet pattern by yourself without the help of outside sources. That is what designers do and you should be proud of that. There is no need to apologize that you didn't do it "correctly" because you have the finished product and it fits wonderfully on you. That is what matters!
I made this sweater and I have a few notes: 1. For the V-neck, decrease every 4th row!! If you decrease every row or even every other row, the v is far too wide, and the sweater doesn't sit right on your shoulders. 2. I struggled with the waistcoat stitch and decided to just single crochet the whole damn thing. It worked great! 3. For the button band, I SCd directly onto the piece. It worked really well. For the bottom band, I did a long strip and then sewed it on while stretched out so that it cinched at the bottom. 4. I added pockets to mine by making two squares and whip stitching them onto the sweater. It worked well. I hope that all makes sense. Thank you for this video!! I love my sweater!
I decided to do regular single crochet too because I’m not a fan of the waistcoat stitch. Did you stick to a 10mm hook? I’m only a few rows in & the holes are a bit large. I’m debating whether or not to frog it & size down or just go with it.
Perfect thanks so much for the recommendations! Just to make sure I got it right: Do you start with decreasing every fourth row at the same point she starts decreasing every other row (so more or less when you are halfway through) or when did you start decreasing?
Young lady, be proud of what you have accomplished. I have been crocheting for 50+ years and I have never created a single decent piece of clothing without a pattern. I have been trying to make a particular sweater but haven't been able to find a pattern that I liked for it nor have I the courage to make one of my own. Your video has encouraged me to try to design one myself. Thank you so much for getting this old woman off her rear end and out of her comfort zone. Keep up the great work! Also, I wanted to let you know you can use multiple strands of a yarn at the same time to get the thick yarn look. You don't have to wait for Michael's.

So, I just made this, following the tutorial (in beige as that's my favourtiittteee!!) Here are my points and what I personally learned: 1) FOLLOW THE INCHES SHE GIVES, NOT HOW MANY STITCHES TO CAST ON. For some unexplained reason, everything I made came out significantly smaller than it should have. When she tells you 'cast on 20 stitches' or whatever, just watch a bit more of the video and see how many inches long it should be on completion. For example, the '23 stitches' for the sleeve should be 8 inches wide. I am obviously a very tight crocheter compared to her, even though I did it REALLY loose. 2) I would recommend making the sleeves both longer and wider. I don't know if I just have really long arms, but my sleeves turned out too short for my liking. I would do 27 cast-on stitches instead of 23, and then do about 26-27 rows instead of 24. So only slightly longer and wider, but it will make all the difference. I would only recommend this if you have longer arms. 3) For the cuffs of the sleeves. I freestyled a lot of this cardigan, and the cuffs were one part I did. Hers was too loose for me, so I basically just did a bit more decreasing. In the end- if I remember correctly- my cuffs were 13 stitches all around. This fits perfectly for me. 4) Okay, so this is REALLY STUPID on my part, I am just adding to make sure no one else makes the same mistake. So, at 13:50, she says 'about 8 inches'. She tells you to cast on 20 stitches- which I did. After crocheting said panel, mine ended up only being about 9 inches wide, which made sense to me. Except I thought she meant WIDTH. In reality, she was talking about the height of the panel. The WIDTH should have been 13 inches wide. This was mostly a stupid mistake on my part- I just got confused. So this goes back to my point of using her inches guide instead of the stitches. I needed way more stitches than her to get to the desired 13 inches she stated. So yeah, check the 'inches' not 'stitches'. 5) My MAIN point. In the front panel section of the video, she tells you that you should stop decreasing about halfway through. 15:30 . So she tells us to stop decreasing, and just finish it with normal rows. Which I of course did. DON'T do this, just keep decreasing. Please. Doing the normal rows made it look so stupid I can't even tell you. It was all bent and just looked really weird. It had a dip in the middle and just didn't look great. I would STRONGLY recommend just keep decreasing to get that 'wide V-neck' she talks about. 6) She tells you to make your front panels 13 inches wide- which I did. I ended up making an extra piece and sewing it onto my 9-inch front panels. *Point 4* So then it was 13 inches. I also got a bit confused here as well. She ends up sewing quite a bit into the cardigan because her front panels were too big. Obviously, mine ended up being 13 inches, which was too big as well. I will add all the measurements I would recommend at the bottom of this comment. 7) I didn't make any mistakes in the assembly, but just wanted to warn everyone to be REALLY CAREFUL on which ways your section is. Think it over a hundred times before actually sewing, please. It is really easy to mistake the 'nice side' for the 'bad side'. Just be cautious! 8) I would stick with bright colours for this project. As I already stated, I did mine in beige colours (still colour blocking) because it is my favourite colour. It just didn't have the same effect, however. I would stick with the colours she used- no doubt I am probably the only person that would ever decide to do it in beige haha. ADAPTATIONS I WOULD RECCOMEND (THE INCHES) Sleeves- I would cast on 27 stitches, and do 27-28 rows. 9 inches wide. I wouldn't give you an exact size for the length. Put it on your arm, allowing 2 inches for the cuff, and just make sure that the sleeves are about 2 inches above your elbow when bent. If it is below your elbow, keep going for a bit. Sleeve cuff- Would recommend ending up with 13 stitches, and just going around until the correct size is found, for you! I would just do 5 rows of the 13 stitches. This worked out perfectly for me! Front panels- I would aim for 11.5 inches wide. I don't exactly know how many stitches this is, but you can just measure if you decide to use my advice. For the first section (pink) I would still go with the 8 inches tall she recommended. I would go with 19.5 inches tall (in total including pink and purple sections.) This will work out perfectly! Back panel- 26 inches wide. This for me was about 48 stitches if I remember correctly- please double check when you are actually doing it. Again why I recommend following inches, not stitches. I would again make this 19.5 inches tall. The pink will be 8 inches tall- just like the front panel. Ribbing- I made mine the same as hers, just stretched it to give that 'sinched look. I can't give you reccomendations on this. I would just go with the 54 inches she reccomends, though, if you don't want to be sinched. I ended up with about 46 inches for mine. So yeah, that's what I recommend. I really hope this helps! Let me know if anyone has any questions and I will happily answer them!!
Thank you so much for the advice! This is my first crochet project, I just started on the sleeves and was a little worried about adding extra stiches because I did not have the correct width. And since I also have longer arms your comment is super helpful, I saved it for later reference. I do have a question and would appreciate your thoughts, I was on the 6 row of my first sleeve and when folded open it looked like a circle, the radius at my first row was a LOT smaller then the radius of my 6th row. Compared to the straight version she has at 7:13. I think it's because I started too tight and went looser as I moved along? Any advice on keeping a steady stitch? Or am I doing something else wrong? @@catschamomile298 You are totally welcome for the advice!! Congratulations on taking on such a big project for your first one!! Don't be worried about adding extra stitches! If anything is too long, you can always just stitch it further into the jacket when you are putting it all together! I am glad I could help with the longer sleeves. I usually like my sleeves to hand over my hands a bit, but hers only went above my wrist. I knew more people would have the same problem as me! Okay, to answer your question. You are TOTALLY fine. The radius of your 6th row SHOULD be larger. It shouldn't - however - KEEP getting larger. It shouldn't end up with one large end and the other tiny. Like a cone. It should start off small, and then basically be a straight tube. It is okay if it has some shape to it. So don't worry, just keep going! Think about it, the design is going for a baggy look, you need it to be wide for it to be baggy. It is because of the looseness of your stitches, the first ones always tend to be REALLY tight. Just make sure you do it exactly the same on the other sleeve so it looks even. Just keep going and it will turn into the straight tube she has. Think about it, the smaler bit will be inserted into the jacket in the assembly, so you won't even be able to tell! In the future, when making the front and back panels, make sure to make your chain AS LOOSE AS POSSIBLE. Even if you think you are doing the loose, it always ends up being tighter. Hope this helped!! The advice about keeping a steady stitch: It is practically impossible to make your first stitches as loose as the later ones. The first ones will always be tighter, which is why the first row is always hard to do. You can't change that. Just go with the flow honestly! You are definitely not doing anything wrong. If you still can’t find super chunky yarn, double up on yarn that’s a little thinner! I’ve done that for a couple sweaters when I couldn’t find affordable super chunky yarn in store and definitely recommend it!
Hundred percent back this! Also if you want chunky yarn to be a bit tighter (if you think your work looks too loose), drop a needle size or two! Still follow your pattern and it would look a bit smaller and give tighter stitches!
oh also if you were struggling to double to yarn like me grab an end from inside of yarn spool and then from the outside then tie the ends together and you can start!
Just finished this pattern and it turned out great! It's super cozy and chunky and overall super pretty...Just a heads up for people choosing to pursue this project; ---- 1. Buy about 8-9 Skeins of yarn if using size 6 yarn; I had to go back to Hobby Lobby a few times to finish this project because I kept running out of yarn. In the end, I used about 8.5 skeins. (I should also mention that I did this project in all one color [blush pink, if anyone was wondering], so I don't know how many skeins-per-color one would need if doing this sweater like the one in the video). 2. Use loose stitches; I actually had to redo an arm towards the beginning because I had made it waaaaaay to tight and it would barely move. I would recommend gently tugging at each crochet with your hook before finishing it with the last yarn over...this will make your stitches looser and more fluffy! 3. Keep measuring your piece against your body! Throughout the whole project, I tried on the sleeves and roughly held the pieces up to my body to make sure that it fell where I wanted and I made adjustments as needed. 4. Find and read Alesha Toora's comment in this section! They gave great measurement recommendations and tips for creating a proportional project. 5. Don't be afraid to unravel!!! I redid multiple sections of this project from the bottom up because I realized that they were too big/small/tight etc. It's much better to redo and get a better end result than finish and have regrets over what you did. (Besides, if you do have to remake anything, it presents a super great opportunity for binge-watching a show while you're at it. I worked my way through the first few seasons of Supernatural while making this!) ---- This was an amazing pattern and (as a semi-beginner crochet-er, at a couple months) it was easy to follow and gave amazing results. I'm excited to see more from this channel as time goes on :)

Hi all! So I just finished making this sweater as a Christmas gift. I sized it up to a mens large. What a project! It came out amazing. One tip I have for you wonderful people is when doing the button band, make the first row closer to the edge of the front panel than you think. I left a solid 1/4” of space and now that little bit of front panel wants to stick out from under the button band. Also - try to keep your tension very consistent while doing the sleeves! My sleeves had quite a difference in puffiness since I crocheted one a lot tighter than the other… oops! Overall, this is an amazing video and I love the fact that you left the mistakes in so I could learn from them. One comment I have is that I wish there was a little more instruction on how to attach the bottom ribbing to the sweater - I kind of had to guess and I think I messed it up a little. I didn’t understand whether the decreased stitches were on the ribbing band or on the sweater. I did the decreased stitches on the ribbing band and it came out a little weird! But barely noticeable! (I also did this because I wanted my sweater to have that cinched look). Anyway, thanks for your instruction!

If you guys ended up deciding to use the exact same yarn (as I did), I’d recommend getting one extra skein of lavender yarn. The pink yarn kirrilalia uses is also “think pink” from loops and threads’ charisma line, not the pink from the lush alpaca line.
@@gretaramirez692 it’s a size 5 and the others are a 6 but you won’t be able to tell the difference. After completing the cardigan I’d say to find a different brand of yarn though. The colors are nice but the quality of the yarn is terrible especially for the price. The alpaca fibers are super short so the cardigan has shed out all of the fibers like a dog blowing out its coat in the summer. Whatever you wear gets covered in alpaca. The yarn is also not as soft as it feels before being crocheted/ knitted.
This colour block sweater is absolutely gorgeous, and you should be SO PROUD of yourself to have made up this design and for it to have come out this immaculate! Picked up this new skill of crochet during lockdown and I CANNOT wait to attempt this sweater and hopefully have something beautiful to wear on the weekends by the end of it.

I absolutely love crochet because it is very forgiving. You can make a mistake after mistake and it still comes together. I really want to make something like this. I have made a ton of scarves and hats and blankets and I really want to try a sweater. This is gorgeous!!!

This is awesome and everything looks so amazing! I’m ok with you making a super chunk one too. :) the only thing with that is, make sure you DO NOT USE ROVING. Chunky spun yarn is way better. I forgot the name of the channel but they made a video on why you should not use roving, especially on a sweater. Or a blanket. Within one day of wearing it your sweater will be torn up, shredding and will be super dirty. If you don’t know what roving is, it is yarn that is not spun yet. And since it isn’t spun it doesn’t have the structure that yarn does, making it basically impossible to use. It does look good for photos and for a while, but overall it’s not worth it. Roving is very expensive and it doesn’t even end up working. Sorry if you already know this, I just wanted to make sure you didn’t make any big mistakes! 🥲🥲

Crocheter here! Finished the cardigan and it came out AMAZING AHHHH, I can’t tell you how much I love it! The video was very clear on instructions, for the waist coat stich, single crochet at the start of the row then waist coat stich all the way, when you get to the end do a single crochet in the last braid, but ofc what ever works for you!

I’m so glad you didn’t go for the chunky wool, don’t ever crochet/knit with that! It gets super messed up really quickly and is practically impossible to wash. It also goes all over your clothes and leaves lints everywhere.
Yep 100% this! Using just roving (i.e. yarn before it's twisted) is a disaster as it has no structural integrity and will just fall apart over time. Pinterest and Instagram pics of extra chunky blankets etc look lovely, but they won't last at all (and ultimately you've spent like 300 pounds on what becomes essentially a huge lint ball :( ) Alternatively you could also spin your own bulky wool yarn or hold multiple yarns together to get a similar look
@@asmallpotato932 same here. I picked up a literal garbage bag just stuffed with a popular roving yarn that is sold as #4/worsted. Close to 50 full skeins. Made a blanket just to use it. It's warm and lovely and pills the moment you look at it.
I was wondering this too, but then I checked her description box and she put all the info there. I think she used 10 skeins in total and she put the different colors of each skein in the description as well. If you choose to use the same colors. anyway, just thought I’d mention it! ✨
Hi! idk if anyone will read this but I wouldn't recommend making the super chunky sweater! The super chunky sweater is cute however, it is made out of merino roving. For those who do not know, merino roving is what gives those chunky sweaters that glorious texture but the roving itself is not a very structured fiber-wise. Meaning, after you are finished making the sweater, it is most likely going to fall apart or mat up after a couple of uses/weeks and it definitely will get after you wash it. I was referencing to what was said at the timestamp 2:22, where she said that she wanted to make the super chunky sweaters. Which I believe are made with roving. Sorry that I wasn’t super clear on which sweater I was talking about!
Hi fellow crocheters here, I'm not really familiar with merino roving I've heard on many comment sections that you shouldn't use merino roving but no one really has explained why besides the fact that there is no structure to it and it falls apart easily so if you don't mind me asking but what is it used for what is its purpose if it falls apart so easily because I've seen some videos where the girls just pull it right apart and then there's the headache of not crocheting too tight or pulling on it because it will break
Hey! I agree with you. I mean it's always worth trying to make things but this yarn is tricky to connect (falling apart is an issue) and also super expensive and also super hot (but not good for winter due to wind going through sweater's holes) and the jumper came out very heavy (we talking kilos) and basically uncomfortable. That's my experience from recreating the jumper. Good luck to anyone else though! :)

You are awesome...I love crocheting, and what makes crochet better than knitting(in my book anyway)is that you can easily unravel it after making a mistake without a mega meltdown!
Let me stop you right at the beginning for a minute. You designed and drafted a crochet pattern by yourself without the help of outside sources. That is what designers do and you should be proud of that. There is no need to apologize that you didn't do it "correctly" because you have the finished product and it fits wonderfully on you. That is what matters!

I made this sweater and I have a few notes:
1. For the V-neck, decrease every 4th row!! If you decrease every row or even every other row, the v is far too wide, and the sweater doesn't sit right on your shoulders.
2. I struggled with the waistcoat stitch and decided to just single crochet the whole damn thing. It worked great!
3. For the button band, I SCd directly onto the piece. It worked really well. For the bottom band, I did a long strip and then sewed it on while stretched out so that it cinched at the bottom.
4. I added pockets to mine by making two squares and whip stitching them onto the sweater. It worked well.

I decided to do regular single crochet too because I’m not a fan of the waistcoat stitch. Did you stick to a 10mm hook? I’m only a few rows in & the holes are a bit large. I’m debating whether or not to frog it & size down or just go with it.

I have been trying to make a particular sweater but haven't been able to find a pattern that I liked for it nor have I the courage to make one of my own. Aww, you got this! I’m sure you’ll be able to make ANYTHING without a pattern considering how long you’ve been crocheting! And also thank you for the tip, it really helped!
So, I just made this, following the tutorial (in beige as that's my favourtiittteee!!) Here are my points and what I personally learned:
1) FOLLOW THE INCHES SHE GIVES, NOT HOW MANY STITCHES TO CAST ON. For some unexplained reason, everything I made came out significantly smaller than it should have. When she tells you 'cast on 20 stitches' or whatever, just watch a bit more of the video and see how many inches long it should be on completion. For example, the '23 stitches' for the sleeve should be 8 inches wide. I am obviously a very tight crocheter compared to her, even though I did it REALLY loose.
2) I would recommend making the sleeves both longer and wider. I don't know if I just have really long arms, but my sleeves turned out too short for my liking. I would do 27 cast-on stitches instead of 23, and then do about 26-27 rows instead of 24. So only slightly longer and wider, but it will make all the difference. I would only recommend this if you have longer arms.
3) For the cuffs of the sleeves. I freestyled a lot of this cardigan, and the cuffs were one part I did. Hers was too loose for me, so I basically just did a bit more decreasing. In the end- if I remember correctly- my cuffs were 13 stitches all around. This fits perfectly for me.
4) Okay, so this is REALLY STUPID on my part, I am just adding to make sure no one else makes the same mistake. So, at 13:50, she says 'about 8 inches'. She tells you to cast on 20 stitches- which I did. After crocheting said panel, mine ended up only being about 9 inches wide, which made sense to me. Except I thought she meant WIDTH. In reality, she was talking about the height of the panel. The WIDTH should have been 13 inches wide. This was mostly a stupid mistake on my part- I just got confused. So this goes back to my point of using her inches guide instead of the stitches. I needed way more stitches than her to get to the desired 13 inches she stated. So yeah, check the 'inches' not 'stitches'.
5) My MAIN point. In the front panel section of the video, she tells you that you should stop decreasing about halfway through. 15:30 . So she tells us to stop decreasing, and just finish it with normal rows. Which I of course did. DON'T do this, just keep decreasing. Please. Doing the normal rows made it look so stupid I can't even tell you. It was all bent and just looked really weird. It had a dip in the middle and just didn't look great. I would STRONGLY recommend just keep decreasing to get that 'wide V-neck' she talks about.
6) She tells you to make your front panels 13 inches wide- which I did. I ended up making an extra piece and sewing it onto my 9-inch front panels. *Point 4* So then it was 13 inches. I also got a bit confused here as well. She ends up sewing quite a bit into the cardigan because her front panels were too big. Obviously, mine ended up being 13 inches, which was too big as well. I will add all the measurements I would recommend at the bottom of this comment.
7) I didn't make any mistakes in the assembly, but just wanted to warn everyone to be REALLY CAREFUL on which ways your section is. Think it over a hundred times before actually sewing, please. It is really easy to mistake the 'nice side' for the 'bad side'. Just be cautious!
8) I would stick with bright colours for this project. As I already stated, I did mine in beige colours (still colour blocking) because it is my favourite colour. It just didn't have the same effect, however. I would stick with the colours she used- no doubt I am probably the only person that would ever decide to do it in beige haha.
ADAPTATIONS I WOULD RECCOMEND (THE INCHES)
Sleeves- I would cast on 27 stitches, and do 27-28 rows. 9 inches wide. I wouldn't give you an exact size for the length. Put it on your arm, allowing 2 inches for the cuff, and just make sure that the sleeves are about 2 inches above your elbow when bent. If it is below your elbow, keep going for a bit.
Sleeve cuff- Would recommend ending up with 13 stitches, and just going around until the correct size is found, for you! I would just do 5 rows of the 13 stitches. This worked out perfectly for me!
Front panels- I would aim for 11.5 inches wide. I don't exactly know how many stitches this is, but you can just measure if you decide to use my advice. For the first section (pink) I would still go with the 8 inches tall she recommended. I would go with 19.5 inches tall (in total including pink and purple sections.) This will work out perfectly!
Back panel- 26 inches wide. This for me was about 48 stitches if I remember correctly- please double check when you are actually doing it. Again why I recommend following inches, not stitches. I would again make this 19.5 inches tall. The pink will be 8 inches tall- just like the front panel.
Ribbing- I made mine the same as hers, just stretched it to give that 'sinched look. I can't give you reccomendations on this. I would just go with the 54 inches she reccomends, though, if you don't want to be sinched. I ended up with about 46 inches for mine.
So yeah, that's what I recommend. I really hope this helps! Let me know if anyone has any questions and I will happily answer them!!

And since I also have longer arms your comment is super helpful, I saved it for later reference. I do have a question and would appreciate your thoughts, I was on the 6 row of my first sleeve and when folded open it looked like a circle, the radius at my first row was a LOT smaller then the radius of my 6th row. Compared to the straight version she has at 7:13. I think it's because I started too tight and went looser as I moved along? Any advice on keeping a steady stitch? Or am I doing something else wrong? Don't be worried about adding extra stitches! If anything is too long, you can always just stitch it further into the jacket when you are putting it all together!
I am glad I could help with the longer sleeves. I usually like my sleeves to hand over my hands a bit, but hers only went above my wrist. I knew more people would have the same problem as me!
Okay, to answer your question. You are TOTALLY fine. The radius of your 6th row SHOULD be larger. It shouldn't - however - KEEP getting larger. It shouldn't end up with one large end and the other tiny. Like a cone. It should start off small, and then basically be a straight tube. It is okay if it has some shape to it. So don't worry, just keep going! Think about it, the design is going for a baggy look, you need it to be wide for it to be baggy. It is because of the looseness of your stitches, the first ones always tend to be REALLY tight. Just make sure you do it exactly the same on the other sleeve so it looks even. Just keep going and it will turn into the straight tube she has. Think about it, the smaler bit will be inserted into the jacket in the assembly, so you won't even be able to tell! In the future, when making the front and back panels, make sure to make your chain AS LOOSE AS POSSIBLE. Even if you think you are doing the loose, it always ends up being tighter. Hope this helped!!
The advice about keeping a steady stitch: It is practically impossible to make your first stitches as loose as the later ones. The first ones will always be tighter, which is why the first row is always hard to do. You can't change that. Just go with the flow honestly! You are definitely not doing anything wrong. Again, my only advice is that you chain as loose as possible at the start.!

If you still can’t find super chunky yarn, double up on yarn that’s a little thinner! I’ve done that for a couple sweaters when I couldn’t find affordable super chunky yarn in store and definitely recommend it!

Hundred percent back this! Also if you want chunky yarn to be a bit tighter (if you think your work looks too loose), drop a needle size or two! Still follow your pattern and it would look a bit smaller and give tighter stitches!

Just finished this pattern and it turned out great! It's super cozy and chunky and overall super pretty...Just a heads up for people choosing to pursue this project;
----
1. Buy about 8-9 Skeins of yarn if using size 6 yarn; I had to go back to Hobby Lobby a few times to finish this project because I kept running out of yarn. In the end, I used about 8.5 skeins. (I should also mention that I did this project in all one color [blush pink, if anyone was wondering], so I don't know how many skeins-per-color one would need if doing this sweater like the one in the video).
2. Use loose stitches; I actually had to redo an arm towards the beginning because I had made it waaaaaay to tight and it would barely move. I would recommend gently tugging at each crochet with your hook before finishing it with the last yarn over...this will make your stitches looser and more fluffy!
3. Keep measuring your piece against your body! Throughout the whole project, I tried on the sleeves and roughly held the pieces up to my body to make sure that it fell where I wanted and I made adjustments as needed.
4. Find and read Alesha Toora's comment in this section! They gave great measurement recommendations and tips for creating a proportional project.
5. Don't be afraid to unravel!!! I redid multiple sections of this project from the bottom up because I realized that they were too big/small/tight etc. It's much better to redo and get a better end result than finish and have regrets over what you did. (Besides, if you do have to remake anything, it presents a super great opportunity for binge-watching a show while you're at it. I worked my way through the first few seasons of Supernatural while making this!)

Hi all! So I just finished making this sweater as a Christmas gift. I sized it up to a mens large. What a project! It came out amazing. One tip I have for you wonderful people is when doing the button band, make the first row closer to the edge of the front panel than you think. I left a solid 1/4” of space and now that little bit of front panel wants to stick out from under the button band. Also - try to keep your tension very consistent while doing the sleeves! My sleeves had quite a difference in puffiness since I crocheted one a lot tighter than the other… oops! Overall, this is an amazing video and I love the fact that you left the mistakes in so I could learn from them. One comment I have is that I wish there was a little more instruction on how to attach the bottom ribbing to the sweater - I kind of had to guess and I think I messed it up a little. I didn’t understand whether the decreased stitches were on the ribbing band or on the sweater. I did the decreased stitches on the ribbing band and it came out a little weird! But barely noticeable! (I also did this because I wanted my sweater to have that cinched look).
Anyway, thanks for your instruction!

If you guys ended up deciding to use the exact same yarn (as I did), I’d recommend getting one extra skein of lavender yarn. The pink yarn kirrilalia uses is also “think pink” from loops and threads’ charisma line, not the pink from the lush alpaca line.

@@gretaramirez692 it’s a size 5 and the others are a 6 but you won’t be able to tell the difference. After completing the cardigan I’d say to find a different brand of yarn though. The colors are nice but the quality of the yarn is terrible especially for the price. The alpaca fibers are super short so the cardigan has shed out all of the fibers like a dog blowing out its coat in the summer. Whatever you wear gets covered in alpaca. The yarn is also not as soft as it feels before being crocheted/ knitted.

Thank you so much for this video! This tutorial gave me the tools and confidence to alter a sweater pattern that I was working on to be exactly what I wanted! I came back to this video again and again throughout this project. Thanks for showing how you problem solve and figure things out - not only do I now have a cardigan I love but I also have a much better sense of how to design and alter crocheted clothing.
This is awesome and everything looks so amazing! I’m ok with you making a super chunk one too. :) the only thing with that is, make sure you DO NOT USE ROVING. Chunky spun yarn is way better. I forgot the name of the channel but they made a video on why you should not use roving, especially on a sweater. Or a blanket. Within one day of wearing it your sweater will be torn up, shredding and will be super dirty. If you don’t know what roving is, it is yarn that is not spun yet. And since it isn’t spun it doesn’t have the structure that yarn does, making it basically impossible to use. It does look good for photos and for a while, but overall it’s not worth it. Roving is very expensive and it doesn’t even end up working. Sorry if you already know this, I just wanted to make sure you didn’t make any big mistakes! 🥲🥲

your waistcoat stitches are so cuteeee. i used them for the red panels on my harry cardigan and they were super tight and didnt look as fluffy as these 😅

I’ve been eyeing this design for years. Years! I think I’m confident enough to try after watching this! Mine will be somewhat different but I’m so so glad you made this! I’m going to try mimicking the look of the roving by combining the strands. (I saw an easy trick for doing it on tiktok.)

Crocheter here! Finished the cardigan and it came out AMAZING AHHHH, I can’t tell you how much I love it! The video was very clear on instructions, for the waist coat stich, single crochet at the start of the row then waist coat stich all the way, when you get to the end do a single crochet in the last braid, but ofc what ever works for you!

I’m so glad you didn’t go for the chunky wool, don’t ever crochet/knit with that! It gets super messed up really quickly and is practically impossible to wash. It also goes all over your clothes and leaves lints everywhere.
It does shed sooo so bad. I made a blanket with it once and just had to throw it away bc it shed more that our cat and dog combined.

Yep 100% this! Using just roving (i.e. yarn before it's twisted) is a disaster as it has no structural integrity and will just fall apart over time. Pinterest and Instagram pics of extra chunky blankets etc look lovely, but they won't last at all (and ultimately you've spent like 300 pounds on what becomes essentially a huge lint ball :( )
Alternatively you could also spin your own bulky wool yarn or hold multiple yarns together to get a similar look
@@asmallpotato932 same here. I picked up a literal garbage bag just stuffed with a popular roving yarn that is sold as #4/worsted. Close to 50 full skeins. Made a blanket just to use it. It's warm and lovely and pills the moment you look at it.

I was wondering this too, but then I checked her description box and she put all the info there. I think she used 10 skeins in total and she put the different colors of each skein in the description as well. If you choose to use the same colors. anyway, just thought I’d mention it! ✨

Hi! idk if anyone will read this but I wouldn't recommend making the super chunky sweater! The super chunky sweater is cute however, it is made out of merino roving. For those who do not know, merino roving is what gives those chunky sweaters that glorious texture but the roving itself is not a very structured fiber-wise. Meaning, after you are finished making the sweater, it is most likely going to fall apart or mat up after a couple of uses/weeks and it definitely will get after you wash it. @Josie Cunningham yes, I agree with you. I think the yarn used in this video was fine. I was referencing to what was said at the timestamp 2:22, where she said that she wanted to make the super chunky sweaters. Which I believe are made with roving. Sorry that I wasn’t super clear on which sweater I was talking about!
Hi fellow crocheters here, I'm not really familiar with merino roving I've heard on many comment sections that you shouldn't use merino roving but no one really has explained why besides the fact that there is no structure to it and it falls apart easily so if you don't mind me asking but what is it used for what is its purpose if it falls apart so easily because I've seen some videos where the girls just pull it right apart and then there's the headache of not crocheting too tight or pulling on it because it will break

Hey! I agree with you. I mean it's always worth trying to make things but this yarn is tricky to connect (falling apart is an issue) and also super expensive and also super hot (but not good for winter due to wind going through sweater's holes) and the jumper came out very heavy (we talking kilos) and basically uncomfortable. That's my experience from recreating the jumper. Good luck to anyone else though! :)
