WOW, that is so gorgeous! Thank you for posting this. I am in a wheelchair, and a visit would be impossible. It is nice of you guys to post this for us to see. Every inch of the house is a work of art!!!
I first toured Bishops Palace with my parents and siblings when we moved to Gaveston in 1968 ! I was going to start 6th grade at Our Lady of Guadalupe Elementary School in August !
I'm from the mainland (Santa Fe) but worked for many years down in Galveston. I remember touring the Bishop's Palace and the Moody mansion and being so fascinated by all the rooms! Years later, when I worked at UTMB, I was able to FINALLY go into the Sealy mansion as well. All those houses down there are so fascinating! I have since moved to the hill country, but miss it down there so much. Hadn't been back for a visit since 2009.
shes a very good tour guide, i appreciate the knowledge she has on the subject and the informative way in which she described the details of the family and house, cool video!
I have been living across the street in a Airbnb for four months now due to work and have been waiting for this fall day to tour it in about an hour from now
I litteraly just came back from visiting bishops palace. It was amazing and i saw everything in it. The the 4 and 5th floor where closed to guest but i just had to see it so i went over the barrier and went up stairs and saw evertything
I was raised on the island and either walked or drove past the Bishop´s Palace thousands of times, but this is the closest I've ever been to being inside. It must really be something actually getting to go in.
Every time I tour the Bishop's Palace it amazes me how dark the interior is. With all of that mahogany and teak, you would need so many candles and gaslights to show the architectural details. It must have been brilliantly lit when they threw a party or invited guests. It's also hard to imagine children playing there, but the two ground floor salons are light and breezy with silk wallpaper, so maybe they played there.
I've taken this tour many times and I remember at one time there were 2 doors into that bathroom with the blue/white tile. The bedroom that was called the museum room had a door off of it to the bathroom as well that came in just next to the tub. I've never seen the third floor of this home. That would be interesting to see.
Thanks for the tour, My husband and I went there on our honeymoon in 1976. Enjoyedit and Aston Villa. Wish the camerman wouldn't spin so fast it makes me dizzy
from Chicago, no Pullman is a big part of our dark history. but lets face it the very rich used working class like chattel. as a matter of fact we are heading back to that.
Did you ever think the people working in the house appreciated having a job. What a beautiful working environment. I worked full time for a wealthy family 20 years ago. I did everything for them A to Z, not a bad gig if you can get it.
They sure build a nice place for the bishop.... Did they have a big place out back for the widows and orphans? No, its Cathol!cs .... Keep in mind, it was the 'church' in Rome that nailed that guy to a cross.
5 yrs sure !😉😅notice all these old world buildings always belong to someone that doesn't actually live in them today. Can anyone build these masterpieces of wonder today? Or know of anyone that can throw one of these together in five yrs? There should be a quick and easy how to video on RUclips showing people build these. Without tools or electricity all you need is a hammer chisel a good team of horses and a 10foot tall latter and you can build one of these yourself now this is a big place it's probably the size of 10 regular size homes so if you build a quarter size palace your looking at it taking a month and that is including the 2 or 3 months of for winters bad weather when you can't work because we have all water and snow proof horses and materials. No problem and because of technology and how we have advanced not like the savaged Chinese that still take 5 yrs to build one of these. No because we are an advanced civilization I think we should have a how to build your own quarter size palace in one weekend give it up for technology yes.
i actually went here when i was a kid,we had a beach house in galveston until my dad left us and sold it,he and another man built it and can you believe it still stands today,,,oh well but yea i went inside this place on tour when i was super young in the 70's its amazing, its my favorite because i like that type of dark stained wood,it does need better lighting to show off all the details but oh well it is what it is,theres another video of this and it might be a little better quality
hell it was almost brand new when i went back in the early 70's and i mean like 73 or 74 i was 3 in 73 and 4 in 74 so i barely remember it,i pointed at a glass door handle to show my mom and laughed like look at that thinking yea they were rich and the tour guide said oh yea they were very short people so if you notice the beds are tiny and the sink is really low and stuff like that so if they were so tiny why build such a mansion ? what were they hobbits haha

She needs to brush up on the history of The Scalamandre Company.
Lincreste!! Love it! Learned that 6 months ago on a restoration in the UK
Beautiful stained glass, artwork on ceilings and woodwork !! Just gorgeous
I have passed by this beautiful place many times but I yet to go in for a tour. I will be doing that soon.
Been there, unbelievable woodwork, the stain glass is beautiful and love the pocket doors.
Wonderful to see the inside. We got to see the outside when we were in Galveston but were in the area too early in the morning for a tour...
I always wondered about the Bishop's Palace when I went by it.
This was a well-led tour.
Great video. I hope to tour that home Someday .🙂 20:58
I love this house!
Awesome tour ! Very factual and informative! I found it very interesting! I didn’t remember all those fireplaces! And nice wood in there!

@@joeweaver3718 it's not. Go to the mansion and u will see anyone can go over the barriers the the highest floor.
I wonder what the Oregon house looked like? This house took my breath away when I visited back in the 90’s.
did they build another palace when they moved to oregon?
How do yall keep it heated and cooled?
I bet the Acoustics are great

Looking up? where is the 5 Point Star ???????????????????? @4:25 ???????????????
Hi, I decided to watch you! I tried in 2010 to compete in the Katy mall , I didn’t win like the hotel galvez ladies
Why are you referring to Colonel Walter Gresham as Mr. Gresham??
I’ve toured it twice and I’d love to go again. The servants’ staircase wasn’t shown and it’s very narrow! Definitely not for large people!
Too dark. You can't see anything.
Then when I attended Nursing School at UTMB I used to attend mass at the Neumann Center on Sundays
I have a picture of the spirit of the old lady in the painting on my phone
Bishop palace , built project wise people
Scalamandre Fabric and Wall Coverings are made in The USA not Italy.
Hi, this is me my name is dominique, I decided! .. I tried! I enter a competition in 2010 in hotel galvez and mall but didn’t win
how could they have built this in basically the wild west?
why does an irish designer not use any Irish motif?
Galveston was a major seaport at that time.
@@jacobe1942 perhaps because it was not his house? He was building a house for someone else, who may not have been Irish.
Interesting! The guide goes too fast. Not enough time to absorb much.

13 fireplaces in TEXAS 😭
Did they like oranges 🍊
If this is really a Catholic bishop's palace, then I am appalled at the comfort he enjoyed "as as a man of God". What a hypocrite.
Hi pinky Renae
Any ghosts?
