Cheap DIY Wishing Well

- Today I made a homemade wooden wishing well cheap! I made it with construction materials that I got at the hardware store. I even used really short screws by drilling the first bit of the hole out so that the screw head could go almost all the way through the wood.

Good job, love seeing young people excelling in a craft such as woodworking. Found your video while searching for a simple way to join the ends of 2x4s cut at a 22.5degree angle for a well im currently working on. Wouldn't have thought to drill a hole for using shorter screws to adhere wider pieces like that for each level, very clever and I'll be utilizing that tip in my current build. Would have liked to see how you affixed the side slats inside for the roof support. My well walls are staggered in stacking rather than aligned. Hope you continue wood working!
Interesting technique. It would have been nice to see the final result in the video. I realize it is in the thumbnail, but it felt like the video ended a bit too soon.
+Perspectologist I didn't realize there was footage of the roof in a different folder on my computer. It didn't make it into this video. I'm sure I'll make another one of these someday and I'll be sure to Have the roof part in
I agree on both points.
Thank you, I didn't learn the short screw technique, but you did remind me of it as I had forgotten. It is a great little project but I would have loved to seen it finished.
What was the length of the 2x4 before and after angle cut?
Awesome Dylan that came out great!
+Make It Mazzeo thanks so much Nick!!
That's a great build Dylan, looks great! And I love the music
+Make It Soph thank you sophie!! And feel free to use it if you want. It's unity by the fat rat. Just give credit in your description
Turn that annoying music off....
no
Dylan, that is the fastest I've seen anybody work !! Wished you would have finished with the roof on though. GREAT JOB.....PAPA MIKE
+MIKE BENNETT SR. Thank you so much mike!! I just found the missing footage now that I've uploaded the video.. Im sure I'll make another one some day.
Your narration, even if out of sync with what is happening on screen, would’ve been far better than the music.
i really like your work. if i may critique a little here. let us know what exactly you are doing and or maybe trying to accomplish. i will say this is my first watching of yours. i will do through your channel and see what else your good at. To end with this. Be a teacher, you already have the love for building. Congrats and i look forward to seeing more of these ..
Great video 👍🏼
+LifeOfZig why thank you
Great job ;-)
+Mactriz Thank you so much!!
Hey, Dylan. Can you supply me with a materials (lumber/hardware) list? Thanks!
Nice
+paulsmessyworkshop Thank you paul!!
But good job
wow long did you cut the 3x4 sections and how mant did it take???
You did that in school? Dang man that's neat. My school would flip if you showed up with a knife or anything decently sharp.
+Single Bit Outdoors oh Hahaha yea... you're not supposed to have knives at school. I just do anyways. It's a tool. And I don't see how it's more dangerous than a chisel or saw. Or any power tool.
Dylan's DIY Workshop agreed
nice craftsmanship for such a young guy. I don't understand how the screws went through the 2x4 when you said you drilled a shallow hole for the screws. Would've like to see it completed too. But still, you have talent!
It was a rushed 1 day build for a teacher of mine, I think the holes went 1/2 or 3/4 the way through the 2x4.
What size saw you using mine doesn’t cut down for enough
12"
Is the roof 1 by 8
Im not sure. I dont have any measurements
I need to repair my little roof
Dylan, It is easy to critique but if you watch your own video, slow down, your being a teacher, so teach, when you cut the wood, tell us what the length is, if I want to build what your building, your dimensions are important to me but you don't share them. You should take time, talk it out, slow down, and teach, your build is outstanding, but it didn't help me build one. There are no videos that show step by step how to build a wishing well fountain with dimensions.
Hi there how many peices of wood total to make a wishing well
its honestly been so long I cant remember
I understand you are selling plans for stuff like this, and I’m sure that’s why you’re not giving measurements but I can’t find the plans to this build on your link. If there isn’t plans for this build can you tell us the measurements or help us find where to purchase the plans?
I dont have plans no, sorry. Im not sure of the measurements
Hi how many 2/4 wood you need I want to bold for my nice thank you
10 or so 10ft 2x4s
Why don’t we see the finished product???
I see that on the bottom row you put a screw in each end. Did you have to do that on all the rows or just the first one?
ok dylan but not many people have fancey wood working stuff
you didn't show the finished product :(
WHERES RHE FINISHED PRODUCT? U left out most important part!
Hey how long are the 2x4s before the cut
8ft
Do you have a written plan for the wishing well?
no. I dont think ive ever followed a written plan. sorry
What was the length of the 2x4 before you cut it
8ft
@@DylansDIYWorkshop what length do you cut for the angle So what I'm meaning by it before you cut the angles what is the length of the 2x4 Just before he cut the angles all 2x4 come 8'
I can't remember for sure. But my guess is 24 in. That way you get exactly 4 out of 1 8 foot two by 4
theyre not all exactly 96 inches long
where is the final result?
In my highschool teachers dads back yard
Whoever that workshop is dud they teach you to make your line with a pocket knife
No, I just didn't have a pencil at that time, and the knife did the job just fine. saved a walk 40ft back to the workbenches
Hair cut time!
+Louie Tzavelas haha
Good job but I wish you had given some details.
I filmed and got rid of the wishing well too quick to get details. sorry
dido no finished product????
It had to leave the shop for the customer before I could film it
I really like this project Dylan and want to make it myself. The boards that were cut to a 30 degree angle, how long are they?
i honestly cant remember how long they were.. the length just determines how large the diameter of the well part will be
as long as theyre all the same
@@DylansDIYWorkshop Thanks for the feedback Dylan, i'll give it a try.
seems to me like they were right around 1 foot each. or i wanted a one foot side. so they may have been like 14 or 16 inches.
@@DylansDIYWorkshop Ok, thanks again
LOL CHEAP???? providing you already have a shop with $100,000 worth of tools!
you could make it with a 10$ hand saw
Nice meme
+Sir DeKong wonderful to see you here memeking
Can you still make wishes in the well Dylan?
yes. that feature comes standard
@@DylansDIYWorkshop Thank you but don't tell anyone your wishes.
Hey Dylan, Can you supply me with the material...?
Geez. The music is extremely distracting.
my appologies
Well ain't that cut using a pocket knife to mark your line. That is wrong in every way. Stop being lazy and get a damn pencil like real contractors uses. Very disappointed
Often the best tool for the job is the one within reach.
Pencil isnt in your tool belt? You set it down with the scrap board you were writing measurements on.
But you have the tape streteched out ready to make a mark; Ive used my knife plenty of times to scribe a line. Ive used the tip of a wood screw too.
As long as the job gets done just as accurately and noone was put in danger, and it didnt take longer than it wouldve to "do it right", or take more material, or risk damaging anything. I dont see how it is so wrong.
Woodworkers often use a knife to mark their lines. It is a different kind of knife though, one better suited for the task. Theyre called marking knives.
