    Hi Emma, I didn't understand why you used "any" in the example of the apples. It was an affirmative phrase with a constable substantive. Could you please explain it ? Thanks a lot

      As she mentioned there are some exceptions we can use any with affirmative singular countable nouns.

    • @rnjnj80
      @rnjnj80 3 года назад +1

      Because there actually are no rules. "Some" and "any" both can be used in any type of sentence. They simply have different meanings.
      _“Some people don't like the hot weather“ = A certain percent of people don't like the hot weather (And the rest of people like the hot weather)_
      _“Any people don't like the hot weather“ = All people don't like the hot weather (There are no people who like the hot weather)_

    What is deferent between How much & How many?

    • @mmmEnglish_Emma
      @mmmEnglish_Emma  5 лет назад +1

      That depends on the noun that you are asking about.
      MUCH is used to describe uncountable nouns like juice, rice, patience, and happiness. When using much, the noun will always be singular; it cannot be plural. For example: How much juice?
      MANY is used to describe countable nouns like books, ideas, leaves, and shoes. When using many, the noun will always be plural. For example: How many books?
      I explain countable and uncountable nouns in more detail here!

    Hello Emma
    I can’t thank you enough for what you have done for me.
    This is a very very useful lesson. I never knew about exceptions of some and any before. You are such a creative English teacher ever. To be honest, I am not a sweet talker, it’s true. All the best.😊❤️

      Don't use "u" instead of "you". Lazy and uneducated people do that. You're not being clever or writing like a native when you use those kinds of word substitution. It's "text speak" that you should only use in an SMS message.

    I hardly have time to read SOME books. That one is okay as well, right? For example: If someone is asking me "How's life after you got a child?" and if I respond with "I hardly have time to read some books."

      of course, my English is not perfect - for example, I learned that we ask this question from someone from who I know he loves dessert: Would you like some more dessert? If I ask this question with 'any', it is also proper but I don't know the person loves dessert or not.

    Teacher, what about :"I have some questions", "I don't have any questions".
