The treat on Rob Lainton is called Gau Sha treatment. It's a traditional Chinese treatment to reduce inflammation.

      Fascinating - thanks for that!

After reading the Wikipedia article, I now have questions why that's being used in a professional medical environment 😬

@gargaj, it's not much different than acupuncture or cupping. It's where I learned about it and my acupuncturist did it on my elbow and forearm.

    I loved the episode.
The Balance of the episode b/w of the people story, the owners and the team is right. Excited for the next episode. There are just so many stories wrt Wrexham. I hope in Season 3, they dedicate a whole episode for the Kop after the Kop has redeveloped.

That's a great suggestion on the Kop front. Hopefully - there are lots of great tales from yesteryear

From a story arc perspective, the new signings + royal visit + Kop bid rejection + Chesterfield loss was an elegant way to indicate to people "they say we're full of money and we're cruising through the division - but it's not that simple, and there'll be plenty of drama to watch in this season as well".
They had to show that the season is still worth watching.

All fair points. Enjoy seeing the various interpretations and takes on it. Our guess is they were transparent about spending far more than rivals so that Notts County, once introduced, will be pinned as the plucky underdogs

Why would you wanna introduce your opponent as the underdog? That's not good storytelling, that just makes you look like a bully.
I'd wager they'll go with "Notts spends about as much as Wrexham [which they did], but they're owned by two football statistician technocrats who hired a modern manager, as opposed to the oldskool guy hired by two bumbling actors" - also known as the Rocky IV plotline ;)

I loved the idea you had about devoting a whole episode to the Kop and it's history and characters. If I had to guess, they may have felt it would be risky to tell that part of the story having not been there for it and not wanting to miss the mark on dramatizing for TV. I think if you guys or one of the other content creators did the work to put that together, it probably comes of better, more accurately and is better received. I'd love to see something like that, because as a new fan I want to understand the club more all the time. I've heard the name Jacko a bunch on podcasts and Twitter...sounds like a legend. I'd love to hear more of his story, maybe via interviews with some older fans that knew him well. Great episode guys...thanks.

The King of England is just the term that Americans use to refer to the monarch. Americans don't make a distinction really in common parlance between saying the King of England and also the King of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. I think they also know that people in Wales are a little less favorable of the royal family than people in England or the US are, so it gets that story line out of the way. It's an acknowledgement that it happened, because it is still very cool to get to meet the royals and have an extended conversation with them.

I thought it was solid. The Royal visit was clearly an opening episode hook for …marketing… to the American audience.

May I suggest that the choice to include the Royal family visit did two thing. 1) It highlighted the idea to open the season that the popularity of Wrexham has really started to catch on, not just in Wrexham, but even the rest of the UK sports media is starting to take notice. 2) It laid the groundwork for the major bureaucratic hurdle that they are planning on dealing with this season, which is the saga of the Kop development.

Have you guys never seen a scrapping tool before? They slather something like coconut butter on your skin and then use the scrapping tool to break down scar tissue. It encourages increased circulation to the area to further promote healing in areas like cartilage and tendons that normally receive lower amounts of blood circulation and therefore fewer nutrients for healing.

Have to hold our hands up and say no... hope those scrapers stay away from the two of us for a while longer yet!

Agree that it seemed a bit short/crammed in, and honestly, I was a bit disappointed that it wasn't a double episode premiere, which would have been good to get the Royals and all the other non-football stuff out of the way and also better set up the season a bit better... An hour long episode would be great though (but I'll gladly watch 100hrs of episodes and cut scenes), as it was so great to actually see that behind the scenes human side of things again instead of just reading about it/hearing rumours. Part of what already has me excited for season 3 with the whole Luke Armstrong mess...

Looks like doubles for 2/3 and 4/5 which is a boost. Fascinating to see what they use on the Armstrong front in S3...

@@robryanredwill be interesting for me to see how much they protect their brand with stuff. Coming from me just enjoying the first season, not knowing anything about the club and not following anything outside of the show, to then really following quite passionately afterwards and knowing a bit more of what happened as it happened...

f1 fans has the same complaints with their doc as well- but similarly it has brought so many new fans and eyeballs. If this documentary does for wrexham 1% of what drive to survive has done for f1 grit your teeth and take the money.

No issue at all with the doc itself, just to be clear. It has done wonders for the profile of the club. Just found the timeline shift a tad odd (nothing but a minor gripe in the grand scheme of things!)
