This really is top line playing. it's one thing to be able to play all the material Tim does here but another to make it sound like you mean it, that's where professionalism comes in. A true insight, thank you Tim.
Tim is one of the best guitar players that will ever grace planet earth. I learn from him every time I watch him play. Such a cool guy, and so willing to share his music and knowledge with everyone. Gotta love Tim Pierce. Tim , you are the Man. Love you Forever Brutha.
This video is a piece of History and deserves a place in the R&R Hall of Fame, as does Tim!! I have never seen such a "real life" demonstration of what an experienced session musician is capable of . He is live and out of the studio but still, that does not affect Tim's chops...he has everything covered. Note also...Tim is playing a Strat style guitar with lead humbucker and second guitar is playing ES335 style from what I can see. A combination in my opinion of the 2 great American guitar companies. For my part though, as I am a Fender Strat guy for 50+ yrs, Tim could have done the whole shoe solo with that Strat. Well done Tim, thank you.
70 plus songs and all beautifully performed. It speaks to the amount of crafting and practice that you have put into preparing. The magic happens before the performance. This is the testimony to that amount of preparation you put into making this an extremely well performed event!! Thank Tim, your years of love translates so well. I think most of us would have been shaking in our boots because we are playing not only with some the industries best musicians but also an audience of performers, musician, industry people who are expecting nothing less than awesome!! Amazing job!!
There truly are not enough words of praise nor enough accolades or awards to sufficiently recognise you, Tim. I am in awe of you all day every day whenever I watch one of your videos. Modern music would have been bereft of greatness without you, sir.
Dear Tim, you literally opened the 2020 Grammy's with an unbelievable killer tone and confident playing. You are amazing. Can't wait for a video about it!!! Please talk about that opening tone!!!!
Such a smooth, soulful and versatile player. Loving what he does and having fun with it!!Most young players nowadays are one trick ponies. I try to emphasize with my students to be versatile and to read charts. That Allman Brothers little part was great, Rosanna , Curtis Mayfield and Lenny KRavitz. Very, very enjoyable.
Since I heard Tim explain Jimi's solo in Hey Joe, I've been hooked and never letdown... What a true, humble, outgoing and generous virtuoso !!! One can't help wondering how great it would be to be pals with this guy... a master in music...and life !!! (even though I'm sure he wouldn't consider himself as one !) ...and he makes you feel as such a friend, even if you'd only know him through his vids !!! a big THANK YOU, Tim !!!
Geeze.. I feel like I'm a personal friend of Tim's or something here. Thanks for sharing this remarkable footage, Tim. Love your channel. Cheers from London.
Vinnie is gold everytime. Lee is everywhere with everyone. The bassists bassist always solid. Dean Parks has been holding it down decades. These men are legends and play with such fluidity and musicality. This was an amazing listen. Years of experience shine through every time!!
Mr. Pierce is a force of nature. One of the greatest musicians of the world. Technique, class, sound, feeling, groove, time,... No words. Hats off to the man!
This is one of the coolest "behind the scenes" videos I've seen. I recently saw Michael Jackson - ONE at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. I sat in the front row which by any standard isn't the best seat if you want to see the most of the "EFFECT" of what they do however, only missing some things directly above me, I was close enough to see them work. I mean really on the job doing what they are trained and love to do. In other words, these incredible dancers and performers actually working. You can see their facial expressions and it was just an amazing experience as opposed to seeing the "effect" of what they work so hard to do. This is the same thing and it's incredible. Thanks Tim for this incredible inside look at a killer gig.
Yes what a treat to see a pro at work and see first hand the concepts that Tim has been so willing to share. Such as the artist serving the song and working together by keeping your ears open. As mentioned I too was happy to see the strat style guitar as I still feel it is the most versatile well rounded instrument if you find a good one. While I see the sheet music I don't see tim paying a whole lot of attention to them and seems to have most committed to memory but perhaps I'm wrong. Would love to know the gear used.
Tim you must have an amazing memory man, I know you have sheets infront, but I forget rhythms all the time, takes me time to recall etc. I'd need my very own James Brown yelling "Take me to the Bridge, On the 1, Damn white boy" etc :-)
This is some of the best playing I've seen in my life!!! I only wish I can play 1/100th this good. Plus you always look like you are having a great time
So interesting to see this. Your videos of tracks you've played on always interest me and this one I found today is no different. The amount of time and dedication you've committed to be this good , man so intimidating. But I must ask, playing a gig like this so vulnerable and wide open to the world, Ever mess up? Do you worry about it? or have you mastered the fretboard so well the thought never generates..
A fantastic example of the master at work and very rare for us to see the raw product, We are very lucky to see this. Of note though, Tim chooses to use a Strat style guitar with humbucker in the bridge. You can not beat the versatility of this combination of pickups and Leo's original design! My humble opinion. Thanks Tim, for the educational experience.
Do you have a video on the rig that you used on this session.? I find it very interesting but not surprised that you used one guitar for all of the songs (a Fender Strat). Fantastic job man, phenomenal player.!!!!!
Thank you for sharing this wonderful insight Tim.....it is even more so watching you rip it up on a guitar built by an old friend while reading charts written by another close friend of ours............what an experience that most of us would have never known without your post!........thank you Sir
With the camera angle for the show you can get a sense of how the other guitarist (Dean Parks) is approaching their part as well. Thank you for sharing this video with us.
Thanks for this Tim!! You had a lot on the go that night and letting us get a glimpse into such a cool gig is truly appreciated!! Your like a human Swiss Army Knife...The right tool for the job ;) REALLY enjoyed this.
I actually was curious about that too I watched a clip of megadeth accepting the award already knowing that the house band was playing puppets and then wondering what the hell i was hearing
Hey Tim, this is a fantastic inside view of the emotion you lived there! I really appreciate you as a guitar player and a musician in the way you live your music dimension. You're great.
Nice job Mr. Pierce, you are the MAN!!!
@Alex Murphy Wow. That escalated quickly...
@Alex Murphy somebody get his feelings hurt when he realized he wasn't going to be a guitar player?

Session musicians don’t get nearly as much respect as they should. This is amazing.
As pro as pro can be. Legend.
The most PROFESSIONAL guitarist I have ever seen. What a class act.
I completely understand why you're so respected in the industry: professional, humble, dependable, and a no frills type of guy! What a legend!! Cheers
As great as your playing is, Tim-- It's the fact that you are always so happy. It's contagious.
I just read your comment when Tim started playing happy:).
Lowell Hanson spooky - me too!
Haha me too!
This really is top line playing. it's one thing to be able to play all the material Tim does here but another to make it sound like you mean it, that's where professionalism comes in. A true insight, thank you Tim.

Wow!! Absolutely amazing Tim!!! Thanks very much for sharing such an amazing video!!!
You are so cool, i get nervous just by watching. Amazing job
Peter Trier Ha. Me too. if I were in that position Id be messing up bad.
Peter Trier he’s laughing and having fun. I’m betting he’s not nervous. He’s a pro and has been playing along time.
I don't know why, but this video gave me stage fright :D Tim nailed it!
Me too. And I’ve done concerts in front of 12k and watching this makes me anxious as heck LOL

Very cool perspective. Thank you very much for posting this Tim!
First off - amazing display from a maestro. Second - cant help but notice that he picked a Strat to cover all those musical styles. Bravo!
Brings tears to my eyes...watching my hero do his thing... Master of his craft! Respect!
Every time I watch you play... I learn something new.

This is great TIm. You're a fantastic guitar player man. Flawless :)
You know you’re high level when you’re in the house band for the *Grammy Awards*
Excellent 'Cissy Strut.' I need to listen to the Meters more often.
Such a smooth, soulful and versatile player. Loving what he does and having fun with it!!Most young players nowadays are one trick ponies. I really appreciate that you are putting out so much great content!
Wow. Total respect. Im blown away by this level of playing.
Vinnie Colaiuta popping off around 6:30 was a joy to hear!
you know the title of the music?

One of the trusted and humble session guitarist out there.
This is amazing stuff for folks to see tim, it really is.
Man...you always have a smile on your face. That's one of the big reasons why you sound so great - obviously loving the music.
4:45 TOTO - Rosanna ... yeah ... nice!!!
Tim is a consummate professional... and its kind of a miracle that youtube exists so that he can share it.
Thank you both!
You play so cleanly and don't rush. Those are two of the most important qualities on
a show like that.
Amazing to watch the craftsmanship!
Amazing - I wish other musicians would do this, it's a great insight
How amazing to have ability and experience to create the required sound. consistent and accurate.
The best session guitarist on the planet 😃🎵😃🎵😃
Christine Lee definitely, Tim is amazing
What a great video, Tim. That was some book you had to cover! No in ears or click track either. This is a “pros, pro” folks.

Thanks for this. I'm a guitar player and I'm MD'ing (for the first time) an award show in couple weeks. Inspiring!
Fascinating video. Thanks, Tim. We met once when I was living in Ventura.

Incredible player and great person. Love that smile!
Great video Tim! Anyway you could put up a song list of what we heard. Some I knew and some I don't.

Thanks for posting this, it's really awesome to see your playing at an event like this up close!
Would it be possible to release a list of the songs you played? I'm really digging them but I can't figure out the song titles!
Thank you for sharing this wonderful insight Tim.....it is even more so watching you rip it up on a guitar built
by an old friend while reading charts written by another close friend of ours............what an experience that most of us

Todd Craig another great guitarist a lot of people don’t know about.

Tim's eye view! So awesome to see this, thank you Tim for sharing!!
Question: Who were the rest of the ensemble playing this gig?
Thanks for this Tim!! You had a lot on the go that night and letting us get a glimpse into such a cool gig is truly appreciated!! Your like a human Swiss Army Knife...The right tool for the job ;) REALLY enjoyed this.
great performance
. just one question when Megadeth won their award did you guys play Metallicas Master of Puppets on purpose?
This was phenomenal. You make it look so easy Tim! Thanks for sharing.
while a lot of the artists that get Grammys are quite shitty the good musicians are playing in beetween lol
This is the grammy show that give out awards to the high caliber musicians and artists such as jacob collier.
DaemonRicks and what are your achievements? Negative youtube comments?
Btw Tim Pierce is Amazing
XD ha for real
even to be nominated for a Grammy means that you are one of the best in the world. sorry to burst your bubble !
Thank you Mr. Pierce! This is such an incredible perspective offered to your students/fan base. Something very rare.Thank you for your generosity.
Hello Tim, just a question:
What happend with that master of puppets cover?
There was one guitarrist who didn't know the song at all.
I actually was curious about that too I watched a clip of megadeth accepting the award already knowing that the house band was playing puppets and then wondering what the hell i was hearing
Mauricio Carreno I think megadeth got their grammy at the "main" show...no Tim involved :)
Man, what a joy to watch! That's just the inspiration I need to turn a Friday around!
So solid (the whole band), whole different level. What song is being played @6:15?
The drummer is so tight
Vinnie on drums...
I want to know as well!
Awesome playing and very impressive that Tim remembered all that!
Very cool! Did you use the Matchless the whole show?
Hey Tim, this is a fantastic inside view of the emotion you lived there! I really appreciate you as a guitar player and a musician in the way you live your music dimension. You're great.
Was shocked when "Cissy Strut" was played and then was floored when "Red Baron" began. I was expecting heaps of contemporary poop.
Tim “The Hands” Pierce! Bravo.
