Although I wanted to be a rock star when I was young, as we all do, as I matured I felt increasing relief that I didn't go down that road--and this video is a perfect example of why. What is required of you to even earn a dime in music is staggering. Whether it's the ability to instantly play any sheet that's dropped in front of you, or simply the ability to get along with people and socially network in the right way to get work, it's a life I'm glad I don't have to live. Meanwhile, in my home studio with my guitars and basses, I can play and write music to my heart's content, with no pressure at all. It is my passion and thankfully not what I depend upon to keep a roof over my head and food on the table. All of this is also my way of saying how much I respect musicians like Tim. He walks the walk.

I noticed that ME80, too. I had an ME70 that I traded with some in combination with some other gear to "upgrade" to an MS-3. The MS-3 is pretty awesome, but still kicking myself for getting rid of the ME70. I don't think you can beat the design of Boss's ME series of multieffects units if you are looking for something that functions like a whole pedalboard full of analog pedals combined into one unit. Tons of extremely usable tones, very easy to tweak on the fly, comes with cab simulation, and has the ability to save presets. There is still a little bit of that "tone-suck" you find with digital multi units, but certainly not any more than you're going to find on average with anything else. If that thing had a talkbox setting you would never need anything else.

  • @stevesheroan4131

The most impressive part of a gig like this is the ability to stay “in the moment” while also being able to stay ready for cues from the MD. I’ve MD-ed a few gigs in my day, and I would have given anything to have a group of musicians that were as dialed in to my cues as this group. With even half the talent it would still make for a tight gig. That is the essence of professionalism IMO, when your first priority is playing for the ensemble, with yourself (and your ego) in the back seat.

Man these are my favorite videos of your Tim. The joy that I hear when you join Dean on "Afrika" is a great moment. I have so much respect for your playing, but more so for your love of being a musician.

I’d be so lost, I’d just start playing random chords, with the volume off.

Thanks Tim. This backstage look is one of my favorites that you publish. It gives us mortals a peak into something we will never personally experience. This also displays the professionalism of the participants, and especially yourself coming in hours ahead and ensuring everything is in place, working, and no surprises to expect. Really well done. (I hope the young boy Marco appreciates what he is experiencing during the pre-show rehearsal. He appears to be digging your guitar playing. Lucky guy! 😁).

Do you ever just totally mess up and have to recover? I'm just curious if you ever get to a point that you just never mess up, or do you just get better at covering it up. I think that would be a good topic for a video.

Don't be silly. He's not human... Seriously though, only other musicians can truly appreciate what these people do because they make it look so easy with flawless time and feel.

Some old time musician told me when I began that being a professional is just being good at hiding your mistakes. I agree, I hear him mess sometimes, but it end up being an uninspired lick among otherwise outstanding playing. And that's also a part of what blues is: bending the wrong note into the right one ;-)

@@gregoirepainchaud you cant cover chord mistakes as easy though, I think, technically, he is so proficient he barely makes any big mistakes, and when he does, he covers them with ease, one of his mos powerful techniques is his godlike muting, for chords and rithym, I think he just learns and practice the songs, he definetely listen the songs previously, also, he plays with really great musicians that make it easy and organize, in my experience, to many bands mistakes come as a result of very unprofesional organization (if any organization at all), look at all the tools they are working with, he has the charts, the music (mp3s), guys assisting them on stage, a pencil LOL, I'm pretty sure I saw ear monitors, and a director, this is not like your tipical bar band where at the middle of the night a clown goes 'I dOnT WaNT tO PlAY X sOnG, I'm BoReD OF iT, LeTS dO Y, I'lL TeAcH U GuYS iS EaSY' and the band proceeds to rape a song om stage LMAO (partly why I stopped playing for bands actually LOL)

If you mess up, repeat it twice so it seems deliberate.

A pro guitar player takes his fans into the heart of a professional gig ... such generosity ... of course he makes it all look wonderfully Tim-like easy .... and note how he gives props to his fellow musicians at the end ... this is how it's done kids!

Getting backstage with the pros respecting the other pros in a ceremony I didn't know existed was causing my arm and neck hairs stand up. Thank you so much for sharing these scenes Tim. Also noticed how prepared you were. "I don't need the sheet music, but thanks anyway. " You are a consumate professional. 👍 😃
