Spot on with what we experienced double blind between these two-slightly more flavor punch on the NCF Rare Breed but a touch more balance and texture on the standard offering. Good to see that hold true for others as well. Great video Jason!

The differences are going to be subtle, but as you say, why chill filter? They do it so it won’t go cloudy when people mix it. I wouldn’t search for it, but would certainly pick the nonchillfiltered. I have made purchasing decisions based on that (buy this or that).

JC - always have a Rare Breed and RB rye on my shelf. One of the best values in bourbon - period. Grabbed a bottle of the 'travel' version on the way back from Canada at the Duty Free - opened it last night and it freekin blew me away! I found a HUGE difference to the point that I would rank it in my top 10 of all time ! Not sure why, but it was SO sweet and drank closer to 100° than the actual 118.3. Incredible. Perhaps I lucked out with a particularly great batch, but again, Holy crap 😳
Thinking about taking a trip back to the duty free to grab a couple more even if I have to pay the duty on them !
Normally I wouldn't have grabbed a Rare Breed at a duty free so thanks for making me aware that it was there and the difference from the regular version.
    Keep on keeping it real

I picked this bottle up at Heathrow in December and finally opened it. I was very impressed, but I didn't do a side-by-side (I am out of the regular at the moment). But damn, I liked it a lot (then again, I also love the regular). But given that its about the same price and maybe a hair better (because chill filtering never does anything positive, IMHO), it's definitely worth the buy if you are a Turkey fan.

hmm could it be the same juice in both?
you don't really *have* to chill filter for clarity above 46% alcohol anyway - maybe they just put it on the fancy 1l travel retail version because "hey, it's non-chillfiltered anyway!"
who knows - can't find anything on the german websites either, but i think they only have to legally mention caramel coloring, which isn't an issue with bourbon of course

Hey Jason, I have noticed several label changes with some of my favorite bourbons lately. Those changes to the label have also come with changes to the whiskey. Here are two Bourbons I have definitely noticed a difference in the flavor - Old Forester 1920 and Knob Creek Reserve (120 proof), new label VS old label. @@johnpickett8533 Thanks John. Have you noticed any changes in taste to the other Old Forester Signature Series that have had the label changes? I contacted Old Forester and the rep told me they have not changed the recipe. They ask for the Laser Print ID on the bottle for verification. FYI - that can be found on the bottom rim not the underside and typically starts with the letter F. Since the 1920 is my fav in that series I bought up what I could find of the old label. I have also notice the New Label 1920 has dropped in price and is continually on sale. I hope they bring back the old version. Would appreciate your input.

Excellent review and you reach the same conclusion as Turkey guru, Rarebird 101. In the hardcore whisky community the issue of filtering is serious. However, many Scotch heads don't understand how drinks in hot climates are routinely served with ice. In my second home, Spain, it's automatic in bars and restaurants. If you say "no ice" you are treated as macho man #1 with big cojones. That 'normal' market is a very large market worth millions. I tell people that in the Scotch world because a lot of stuff is sold in bars and restaurants to folk who think 40% is firewater. Rare Breed is unlikely to be sold like that so I don't know why it's filtered unless it's sold in bars in the States. By the way, my finest rediscovery this year is how good 101 is. Man. bang for buck it's amazing. Cheers buddy. WT
