As a US person who enjoys Scotch more than bourbon, I find Rare Breed to be exceptional for the price, as are most WT products. Still, the various distilling regions of Scotland, each with unique signature flavors, present more layered experiences. It will be interesting to follow the development of American single malts.

That is actually a good idea, Geoff reviewing an American single malt. The only problem I see is the really limited distribution overseas of such bottles. The ones that come up to my mind: Balcones, Westward, Westland (oloroso is great). I need to try Cedar Ridge as well.... choices, choices

Bourbon folks tend to focus on the proof on the bourbon (higher the better to most enthusiasts) , where is was distilled (making sure if in house or sourced juice (MGP)), mash bill, and toast level of the barrel and where it was within the Rickhouse. These four/five items help us know the type of proof we are buying, where the juice is from, what it's made up of and what it's housing environment was for aging process. For all of these will dramatically change the flavor and intensity of the baseline and complimentary notes.

The beginning caught me off guard but I loved it 😂. Rare breed is probably the best value bourbon in the world. It is one of the few that is priced very well anywhere you can find it. And it's fantastic! To me, if there was a picture of bourbon in the dictionary, it should be the rare breed.

Well, I am a single malt lover foremost, but I do occasionally dabble with Bourbon. The odd indie bottling of Heaven Hill for instance. Or single cask Four Roses. Good, but not great. Sometimes I watch videos on YT about Bourbon, but usually the ‘winners’ and the interesting stuff are kept on the other side of the pond. It’s like having to judge the whole category of Scotch single malt by only getting Glenfiddich and Glenlivet 12yo. Difficult to give a fair opinion!

Great review Geoff! I did a side by side of this and the regular bottling and I really couldn't tell them apart, both lovely drams with plenty of body. In terms of what I look for on a bourbon label, an age statement is nice to see. The regular Wild Turkey 101 I'm sure specifies it's made up of 6-8 year old bourbon and I appreciate that level of transparency.

I love Bourbon. I also love Scotch. On average I think a Bourbon is usually more enjoyable compared to a Non peated or Smokey scotch. As generally most scotch sits below 95 proof and I usually prefer my whiskey at around 110 proof. Also a typical bourbon is just better than a Single Malt Scotch that was aged in used bourbon barrels. As those scotches usually just have a very strong malted cereal grain note with maybe some vanilla maybe some light caramel. While I think a typical bourbon can be a lot more complex since it can use any number of grains to be made as long as it's 51% corn, and those other grains just add to the complexity of bourbon.
However Scotch aged in basically anything else or finished in any type of other barrel is just as good as most bourbons if not better than your average bourbon. Because the wine finished Or other Liquor finished stuff in Scotch just adds a ton to it.
I think both are different enough though that at the end of the day I couldn't pick which I enjoy more as each has amazing things they do. On my all time best pours I've ever had I have more bourbons than Scotch, but I also have a lot of Japanese stuff too lol
Yeah both are great and I think you should try more bourbons especially stuff like Single Barrel picks, and the other more rare and sought after stuff in bourbon 🤓
And peated or Smokey scotches are just their own wonderful thing lol there's even some bourbons that are finished in barrels that held peated scotch or bourbon and peated scotch blends out there that are awesome

I prefer scotch over bourbon. However, WT101 is my favourite bourbon with Rare Breed coming in second. The 50.5% ABV of the 101 is just right for me and I find it a nice balanced bourbon. Even many Americans cannot believe how fixated on politics. But, I think that we have a lot of people who have never even voted who just like to hear themselves complain about politics. A bit like a scotch drinker complaining about bourbon.

0:53 at this point I just gave up, can't handle it. I came here for a whisky review, not a comedy channel. You're over doing it, perhaps your followers like it, but I'm gone. Cheers.
