These hymns are chanted during the portion of the Orthodox wedding service known as the Dance of Isaiah. At this point, the bride and groom are led by the priest in a triple procession around the center table. During this procession, the bride and groom wear crowns as a symbol of martyrdom. In the Orthodox Church, marriage is understood to be a sacred mystery, or sacrament of the Church. A proper marriage which has Christ as its center is seen as a path towards salvation, allowing a person to die to one's self by sacrificing one's own will and desires for that of the other person.
Few things are more beautiful than an Orthodox wedding. Like my word. My first ever wedding was singing in a small 5 person choir, and I almost had to stop at the dance of isaiah bc I was going to burst out in tears.
Awesome
It's interesting to note these hymns are also used at ordinations.
Beautiful...Praise the LORD
Stunning ☦️☦️☦️
thank you for posting this!
Beautiful🙏❤❤
Βίον ανθόσπαρτον! Совет да любовь !!!
Robust and deep. The EO Church’s hymnography makes Amazing Grace look like a school child’s scrivnership.
Well, don't say that! Amazing grace has a very good lyrics! It's about Jesus' mercy towards us, and how we are saved!
@@maryanna682We aren’t just saved. We are BEING saved. And the point is the ancient musical traditions are far deeper, more beautiful and more moving than 18th century Protestant songs that are theologically inaccurate.
@@Nicholas-bc3qt 🤣theologically inaccurate, tells me the guy that practices theologically inaccurate nonsense.
@@maryanna682 If you aren’t an Orthodox Christian then why comment on Orthodox videos criticizing their faith? Get a life
Beautiful chant❤
But why is a song for marriage?
In English??? That sounds weird. English is definitely not a tongue for Orthodoxy.
disagreed
Agreed, even though it is the norm. The English words don’t do the music justice. The Slavonic words fit the music better
English is much better for those that don't understand Slavonic. Music needs to be composed for the English.
I mean I assume you’re Orthodox and you’re speaking English 🤷♀️ Orthodoxy is for all tongues so we can worship in spirit and truth
@@kellyanna94 Yes. If we don’t know what is being sung, how are we praying together?
