Ellen's Energy Adventure - Martins Complete Ultimate Tribute

  • A colossal and technically challenging project, 12 months in the making. My intention, as always, was to capture every detail of the attraction in the highest audio and video quality possible.
Starting in the mid 1990s, see the proposals for the Energy pavilion refurb. Then take a detailed look at the summer of 1996 Universe of Energy hybrid version and the changes made for Ellen's Energy Adventure.
Fast forward to 2017 for a shot in 4K, mastered in full HD complete tour of the pavilion. Starting outside for a look at the building this is followed by a walk past the entrance mosaic and into the preshow theatre.
The preshow is presented in full, with a source quality audio track, and each screen was tripod shot separately for complete control over placement and alignment and to allow me to composite and position each projection perfectly for the best quality and to cover all the details.
Next, walk into theatre one and board your travelling theatre for the main show, again each screen was tripod shot separately for the best composite positioning and quality. With a source quality audio track.
And so we then travel into the diorama. I make no apologies for the amount of coverage here, I aimed to cover every detail, every effect, every animatronic. Stunning low light 4K video captured this I hope. With a new clean live audio mix.
Moving into theatre two, hear the full KNRG news report in source quality as the travelling theatre re assembles. Watch the whole theatre two film, again each screen was tripod shot for full quality and flexibility. Each screen was also straightened and re composited to achieve their correct appearance that was impossible to shoot from the ride vehicle. With a source quality audio mix.
Finally, travel back into theatre one for a tripod shot finale, and then take in the architecture details as you exit. See the changes made to the pavilion since 1996, and take a lights on walking tour of the diorama during the last public ride. Ride a full locked off time lapse tripod trip through the diorama, and finish with a look at the pavilion at night.
Given the changes ahead I wanted to capture as much of the pavilion and attraction as possible. I hope I achieved this in this 84 minute edit.

I never got a chance to ride this on my trip to Epcot back in 2023. As someone who is a fan of dinosaurs and an admirer of the Disney parks and their history, it’s really nice that you preserved this so well with every minute detail in tact.
I do hope they kept the dinosaurs in storage somewhere and someday reuse them for the Magic Kingdom’s Railroad which desperately needs something exciting

Excellent video production! I am sad though for EPCOT as a whole. year by year, Disney Corp is putting a stake in the heart of Walt Disney's original dream for EPCOT, the Experimental City of Tomorrow. It never did achieve its original goal fully, though in part. That Disney the Company would team with Industry to showcase the ideas, the inventions, the upcoming wonders that were present, and above all, coming. And even though there is a never ending flow of new technology on earth, a renewed zeal for sea and space exploration, it seems Disney Corp is set to turn EPCOT into another amusement part. Something they already have in abundance. Disney Corp really, if that is the goal, needs to change the name of EPCOT to something else. I am glad I got to see EPCOT in the early 90's, a time when I think it was at a peak, or at least a time when it was still closest to Mr. Disney's original goal for EPCOT, IMO. I had thought it would be nice to go back to Epcot. I am not sure there is enough of the technology showcase there to warrant the expense now to do so.

Martin, your attention to detail on these continues to astound me. You are the master.
As a side note, I am still convinced that the "battery issue" that resulted in the final ride (obviously filled with die hard fans) being evacuated, was planned. No way could they say they allowed that on purpose but, I like to believe they shut it down to let those fans get an amazing view of the attraction, up and close and personal, before it was demolished.
Oh and P.S. - Thanking the carpet on the wall. Again, you are the master.

I did not get to ride the last ride, but rode Universe of Energy a few hours earlier, around 3-4 pm. Our last ride might have been a few days earlier, but U of E had closed at 7 PM that night and it was a tad bit later when we arrived. Bonus though, Mission Space had a "soft opening" that night and were able to experience the new Mission Space: Green!!!

Hearing the 1982 preshow with the then-new audio system brings out some of the hard-to-hear musical instruments!
Like those really low bass notes at around 6:32 sounded more like a synthesizer than a tuba (a tuba can be heard more clearly on the Official Albums)!
That must have shook the building at the time! (The synth notes sound more pronounced at around the 6:48, around the line "You are profound.")

This incarnation of Epcot's Energy pavilion was the definition of a mixed bag. Some parts were better than the original (the film segments being less "boring" by mainstream theme park audience standards) but other parts were worse (significantly less visually impressive pre-show and finale, the film segments trying way to hard to "update" themselves for the 90's only to ironically feel even more dated than the original, etc.)...

To the sadness of my mom, who loved the attraction since Ellen Degeneres was her favorite actress, me and my brother can’t wait to see the forthcoming Guardians of the Galaxy attraction coming soon.

gissneric I live in Canada, and I’m getting a “This video is not available” message. Seems to work fine on my regular computer though, really frustrating.

21:10 is this the first and only gay joke in any Disney park?

      @maddoxcox 6 лет назад

Uhh... not really for long, Disney is just pushing their Gay agenda a lot (like Gaston and LaFu [sorry if i spelled it wrong] becoming married in the recent remake) it is very likely for Disney to have a gay agenda on several rides, i could see a Carousel of Progress gay couple (if they actually renovate it, which wasn't since 1993). To end it short, it would be very likely for a Disney ride with gay animatronics.
