For those wondering, `piiman` sounds (to me) like it comes from French (or possibly another latinate language). In French, a pepper is a 'piment', which is pronounced basically the same as `piiman`. To be more exact, in French, the last three letters ('ent') form a single vowel sound (ɑ̃ in the IPA). This seems likely to me as the source of `piiman` as meaning pepper.
