- What an amazing day dumpster diving! Found all kinds of scrap metal, but we really scored on a few amazing treasures too! Heck, probably brought home just as much as we brought to the yard on this one... Can't say I'm mad about it!

i work at a transfer station and I take apart a lot of dryers and noticed there is always money in them the most I’ve found was 70$ in one always good to take a peek in them
70 dollars is crazy good. The most I have ever found is 13 dollars. Good score.

M8 your strength is amazing . You seem to have the agility of a grizzly bear , and the strength of a Canadian moose the way you picked up appliances and jump inside dumpsters , like your legs are made of rubber. I lost the use of my car, too much work needing to he done and no cash to do it. But I fully intend to get back out as soon as I can.
Until then I will catch up with your videos and scrap what I have at the moment.
That little stove was in good condition. Id love to get a set of burners like those for mine. I dont like the coil type ones.

Keep an eye out for old coolers or plastic tote boxes to make Winter cat shelters. Just drill hole in side & fill with straw.
Vintage MTB parts sell really good for me on fleabay. Cranksets, shifters, rear derailleur will always sell as long as I price what others are going for. The only special tool u need for pulling bike parts is a crank puller which is $20 or so. Everything else can be removed with Allen keys. If the bike hubs are mid or high end just cut spokes using bolt cutters. It's best to disclose to potential buyers whether the hubs need TLC or not. Another thing regarding bikes are 80s BMX which are generally worth $4-500 hundred just for parts and even more complete. Vintage road bikes are nice to part out however I like to sell the group set complete.
if that clock has no real value on it's own collectability, keep it for epoxy resin project. along with other discarded timely stuff, you can use it as the center piece of an ER table top and sell to a rich hipster.
Maybe you can use the face of that clock to fix the one at the barn, which oddly seems to be stuck at 4:20.....

Got played the other day. Picked up a tote left out for scrappers, at this remolding project and it was 95% broken glass and trash LOL But last couple times there was lots of copper wire. 2/3 good hauls ain't bad But it makes me think that scrap was maybe intended for someone else and they pulled a jerk move for me???
That’s such a strange move! Maybe they were just annoyed you kept stealing their totes? 🤣
@@thubprint Nope i returned the 2/3 unbroken totes, wanted them to fill em up again. Only the 2nd & 3rd time was it totes even, first time was a large trash bad full of wire. That 2nd time tho, i also had a full bag of trash from 3 totes but it was still plenty of wire n other metal. This last 3rd time was bogus and just trash.

Cleaned out my mom's big garage and found aluminum, steel, wires, old dryer and 6 dvd players that may or may not work but could be used as scrap
Edit: Panda leader, please get a van. there's a lot more room and for more get a trailer to haul

Nice work thub, I really appreciate the work you put into these videos and my 8 year old daughter does also, she is always ready for your videos every Friday. She keeps saying we need to go to Canada so maybe we'll run into ya but I told her that would be like finding a needle in a haystack lol
I give all my motorcycle and bicycle chains, and sprockets to a friend who welds metal into artwork. The chains can be formed into any shape you need before welding them.

In Iowa (the most middle of the midwestern United States) none of the scrapyards will pay for appliances. They do let you drop them off for free, but I think thats absolutely ridiculous because they put the appliances right in with their steel shred, so while they won’t pay us scrappers for them, they’ll gladly sell all the ones that are donated. I’m very jealous of you thub. Count your lucky stars
Then it's up to you make change. How close is another state ( which pays ). Talk and make pals with all local scrappers.
That sucks. In ohio we get paid for all kitchen and laundry appliances. It's flat rate where I go but it's money.

Which scrap yard pays the most here ?
Here in Calgary? It’s never that simple but my personal pick for the “best” is RECON. They have the best price for steel because they have better categories (most places just call it all shred) and steel is the majority of what a scrapper will haul. They also have great prices on everything else including catalytic converters, so they’re the best one-stop, plus they’re clean and FAST, and they don’t grind you out downgrading every little thing.
Next best one is Empire, good people and often slightly better prices on nonferrous but slow service and don’t buy steel.
Other than those two I’ve tried most of them and I don’t want to call them out by name but what I’ve found is others will offer higher prices, but they’re so picky with the grading that you’ll never have the quality to actually get that price. Copper/aluminium/brass, they’ll look at every little thing and downgrade the whole stack. It’s not exactly a bait-and-switch, but the reality is I always get paid less when I try the “higher price” ones.
So I go to RECON, because I make more money there.

I sure do! Love my car. He doesn’t have any particular affinity or interest in scrapping but he’s into the idea of getting money from treasure hunts. It’s honestly more my being cautious, didn’t want to hand him power tools until he was a little bigger
@@thubprint Well your boy is much bigger now, maybe you could show him how to use power tools safely, I think it would be good to get him outside in the fresh air doing a side hustle that earns him some cash... even if that's collecting recycling to turn in for money.
What do you do with the crt monitors
I just enjoy using them! I’ve got a particular project in mind for a smaller one that would involve a total repurposing of the tube, but I’ve got a nicer one for video games and a few others. I’m fond of my green monochromatic one and I’d really like an amber monochromatic, so I’m basically just hunting for that.
