Dumpster Diving, Processing and Cashing Out - How Much?

- What a day! Dumpster diving to kick things off, found all sorts of great scrap metal scores to recycle, then met up with a friend and continued the treasure hunt. Finally brought all the material home for processing and cashed it all out at the end. Made out surprisingly well for two days digging in the trash!
Wire stripper I use: amzn.to/3sirg18
The motorized stripper: amzn.to/3y0JMuQ
The wire cutters I like: amzn.to/2T6j3OW
The grips I recommend: amzn.to/2QCJmYl
The melting furnace: amzn.to/3EGxT2q

I really wish all the lower 48s would offer money for bottles, maybe then people would stop throwing them on our roadsides.
Most of America is woefully behind in recycling efforts, including offering deposits for bottles and cans.
What I really respect about this person is that he cleans up his mess after scrapping and searching for metal!
He’s real kind hearted nothing but respect
@@timnavarrette6932 Yea!
👍
I love love love watching you take stuff apart. Your commentary is so good.
Mission: "trash picking to find some great stuff"
Thub 2023
I'd pick up a $10 bill off the ground.
That's a great return for the time you invested in those bottles and cans.
Working to fix up the vehicle adds a pretty cool twist to your videos. That being said, I'll be glad when you get your dang truck back.
Did I miss any updates for the truck?
Came to the comments to say this!
2nd gang
So, I got my buddy's truck. Made money with it immediately. Then the alternator went out, had to wait 3 days for it to come in (!!!), and now have to wait for tomorrow to change it out. Jeeze! But it is nice being able to load things without a (reasonable) height restriction.
Now off to watch the video!
Nice score! I wish we got paid for plastic bottles here in south FL
in califrornia u get between $125 to $300 every other month for my cans and bottles
Same here in New Orleans
@@joeigneczi2524 Nice!
@@ProjectShopFl I made $220 from can and bottles and $180 from my scrap metal
ok, let's not alley hop with a head mount. thx.
Cadmium? Watch Our Every Day Living, Tim is quite resourceful with his wife, June working right beside him. Am not sure where they are actually located in Australia. Poly Prophet, Melbourne, does a great job of scrapping. He has the best scrap piles that are nicely located in front of residences. Be safe out there.
Fact: bears eat beets. Beets, bears, Battlestar Galactica.
Cool now your semi precious
When some people don't take the time to process any of their scrap, you wonder if they should really be scrapping at all. I going to guess that it frowned upon to pull things out of the sherd pile that are worth much more than sherd, process it then sell it back to the scrap yard for profit.
Aren't those motor casing are higher grade of steel?
If you weigh out with the stuff you take in your vehicle, some yards will let you.
I learn so much from your videos- your enthusiasm, attitude and identification of 'what's good" are all so valuable!
In Nairobi Kenya, were currently doing 10 bucks a pound for copper so yeah. its a sweet deal
Always enjoy the ride along with Thub. That first dumpster was fantastic. 👍
I i la i i bb. I o. I in but b. Jhhh😅😊i j ji j bi
Sim,foi fantástica, mas deixou muita coisa para trás.
First 😊
A hole hour.
Man perfect way to wind down with a beer a a special cigarette after a long week.
All hail Thub
gottem
A hole hour? That sounds like something to be avoided 😅
Yet you still went to the effort of making a comment. Nothing better to do with your time?
My day started out kind of crummy, but an hour hanging with Thub brightened it right up. Thanks, Thub. (Glad you got the clippers. After all this time, the old ones were just too dull.)
Thanks again molly! Don’t think for a second I’m throwing the other ones out 😆
Great day(s) scrapping! Entertaining to watch as always, keep doing the thing! 👍
God bless 🙏🏼🇺🇸🇨🇦
Have a great weekend Thub! Love that wire. I just hauled in a bunch of ali wire.
Some scrappers haven't learned their trade well!
The wheelweights in the bucket you skipped there are a special cathegory at the yard, and pay decent!
I thought they were wheel weights too at first. Its actually cigarette butts.
Oh, well they don’t pay equally good! 😂
Watching this right now at home, at 12 AM. My Pontiac Vibe is in my buddies garage overnight. We're replacing the fuel injectors tomorrow because gas had been spewing out of the engine and collecting in boiling gas pools on top of the engine... NOT GOOD! Anyways, I'm without the Vibe tonight, but there just so happens to be an open top less than a mile from me right now that over the last 6 months has produced Hundreds of kilograms of non-ferous metal. I have a large backpack, I do believe I'll go for a walk right about now...🚶♂️
ooo yay, Fresh upload right after my premier, sweet, I can watch at time of release for a change👍
where is your truck
at the shop, has been
Guess it is better than some other countries burn tires to process metals.
Bushmills good Northern Ireland whisky
It's a whisky that costs alot here in Northern Ireland I would say its more in Canada
You could have taken the handles off those night stands and sold them on Ebay.
Some of them are actually brass
💜💜💜💜LOVE
That's good $$$$$ for 2Day,s ,,,,Weldone
Crazy Canadian Bohemian Cousin, you need your truck back. A lot of good junk you are finding!!!!
I guess that maple leaf bottom plate turned out to be a good luck charm after all....
BTW those boxes of wire are probably for Cat5 or Cat6 Ethernet. You can probably sell it for more than it's scrap value given a full box is worth around $300ish for a 1000' of wire.
Looks like a wire dance is better exercise than a pole dance.
Do you do this on the weekends? Or, do you do this for a living? I've watched tons of your videos, know you have a family. I just don't see how you can afford to live off this alone. The plastic bottles and alum cans boggle my mind, they won't take some for 'free' recycling in my area (US), let alone pay you for them!
Great scrap runs. Interesting to see what’s inside and if worth scrapping more Thanks
that was a great break of my sufjan stevens songs, my dog thought it sounded cute
Appreciate your videos Thub
haha neatly bundled up poles, it's almost as if they knew you were coming 🙂👍 I got literally a vehicle full of light fittings last dive and it turned into a nice weigh in after a little processing too, I think that we will get more and more as people switch over to the more energy efficient LED ones. Right place at the right time indeed, I'd start singing with cable scores like that! Oh man, you threw the board back in with all the relays with silver contacts in, that makes micro scrappers like me cry 😜Wow 10 and 25cents each for bottles and cans is amazing, I so wish they did that in the UK!! I know what it is like scrapping in a smaller vehicle 😉Nice payday 👍 (I really thought we were going to witness some super claw action when he was trying to get that mixing bowl out but alas no, shame 😂)
Those were some great dumpster dives! Never 'pshaw' the wire, though. It's easy to deal with and can add up fast.
Seeing you process the scrap reminds me of spending Saturday’s at my dads yard cleaning copper, cutting off joints and soldering to make into clean copper with bolt cutters, I was about 8 at the time😂 also if he got any strippable wire he would give it to me to strip and scrap and I got the money, it’s crazy how young I was but great memories
You're very contradicting. In one video you talk about the people who just run through and pick the "strawberries" and leave the other metals. You do this so often. Debating whether to take the hot water heater, yes, take it. Not just thw fittings and leave the rest. Money is all of it, not just the heavy metals/iron like you said. My motto is, take it all, all metal has value. Sort it later when you can't be out gathering.
WHY???? @ 29:07 why did you cut the cord off the vacuum. There's a motor in that vacuum that's worth money too. 😢 jeez.... same with the sink. 😧
Dude remember your PPE inhaling all those particles will catch up with you down the road. Amazon you can pick yourself up a hand crank wire stripper for $80 and drill powered for around $100
As someone who does this alongside of salvage i can tell you that if you can monopolize an area or town even if you have only a bicycle you can rake in some real good money. Speaking from experience I earned 60k in 6 months as i couldnt complete the year due to emergency move away from my monopoly but had i continued and done a whole year i likely would have earned 120k in a year. You gotta memorize a lot of details even locatioms and times they put stuff out. Though in my case i have a sort of sixth sense like radar and have benefitted from that gift. Still trying to sell my rare $5000 iron forged helm and this rate boardgame with only as many as 10-20 copies floating around the globe worth as much as whatever i choose as good lick finding a copy though! i salvaged both items with as little as 2-4 hrs invested timewise on the days i salvaged said items but once they do sell ill have made $5000+ and i havent invested to much time either. You just gotta know your stuff and the ammount of money you can earn is just massive.
Very interesting to watch. Thanks.
Stumbled onto your channel. Great The Office reference. Keep up the good work.
Man I could have spent an hour or more cleaning that first dumpster out! Bummin right now because I broke my leg (ironically while packing the truck to take to the scrap yard, as a donation for the local Historical Society) and now I'm stuck sitting on my ass, using crutches to get around...
Yeah you should get the mazda truck back. Its the heart of the channel :)
If you like dumpster diving at home renovations then you should go to your local building department. They usually have a list of building permits with address and type of construction happening, also a good place to see where electrical work is happening. Then you will know where to go in the future
They probably using your truck scrapping 😢. No shop take that freaking long
Great pickings, especially with the prices high
Old water heaters and high end have ones have copper tanks. In any case check the name plate. It indicates the tank metal.
Good info! Thanks 😊
Was watching non farrius Jeff from Florida he has a guy that scraps with a bike and small trailer does very good
hell yea give your friend a purple bag. i watch your adds the whole way through to give you larger ad revenue. it's about giving. when we give we receive blessings.
They just let rummage through the dumpsters just like that.I always get run off
Bro please hold the grinder with two hands at all times, you need to invest in a bench vice so you can always cut safely, just don’t want to see you cop a cutting disk to the apposite arm ❤ stay scrapping
Your yards are different than those down here. Ours don't really make as many distinctions between materials, ie, the ferrous stuff.
I recycle on foot I carry snips and screwdriver but the channel locks great idea thanks
Every little bit adds up
30:50 giant shop vac lol
Thats cool that you all get paid for plastic bottles. I could make a living off that alone. Lol
I've done scrapping for several years. I find the taps you have in Canada made very cheap. I have never come across taps like that in the UK. They are always solid brass.
Awesome videos
Great video
It always hurts my brain when I see people throw stuff away that is worth so much more if they put in the time😢😢😢
So what's up with your truck are you getting it fixed.
Can’t wait till you get the truck back

So personal questions what is your full time job then? Scrapping is the hobby I get that and with the amount of snow u get scrapping in the shop is something to do.
You always have the best luck finding scrap!!! Awesome 👍
Glad to see you again! Now waiting for the next video 🕺🏻
Hey there Thub! Another great video, like always!! 😀🙂😎
why dont u take the metal box and other stuff in there. i saw a bunch of metal you left behind
I’m having hernia surgery Wednesday next week I’m wire hunting hard because I just bought a stripmeister to keep me busy while I heal. Thanks for the great videos happy hunting hopefully shorts weather is around the corner for you
You piss me off sometimes for CS, its even bundled up for you.
Thank you for taking us along on the dumpster diving.
Reminds me of the rats in my neighborhood looking for food
missed a bottle at blue dumpster on the ground you threw out
Your truck should have been done a week
That’s what I thought too
📌Four wheels in a heartbeat 💓 should be your opening line to all your scrap run videos.
You left the third bundle of pipes behind. Around 8:50
in lithuania every bottle is 10 cent :/
I do hope you succeed in getting both autos completely fixed by the end of your snow season, which is coming up. It will have you sitting in good shape for warmer weather
I remember when I was a kiddo and my cousins and I would go around collecting bottles for 10-15 cents each in Texas. Back in 80’s. Would take them to local HEB grocery store to customer service in a drop bin and that was nice and convenient! Unfortunately most states here in US no longer pay like they do I guess in Canada 🍁. They just rely on people to throw them in recycling bin placed at the curb. Great vid as always brother! I’ve actually been inspired by you, Mike the Scavenger as well as Scrap and pallet Man to start my own scavenging business with RUclips channel coming soon!!! Blessings to you and yours brother!
The road to becoming a RUclipsr is long and arduous but you have to keep working hard go for it
Just started collecting worthwhile metal wires etc its fun watching your content
That was a great 2 day ride with you and friend made good cash awesome time
I went out today and picked up 4 vacuum cleaners, 2 box fans and an AC. I don't have the space to keep magnetic metal and it would cost me more in gas than I would make per trip so I give it all away.
Save the cords up break down the radiator, cut out compressors and copper and motors is what I’d do to make that worth it
@@christinamarie4054 I keep the motors, cords, copper, and brass. I just give the bulky magnetic metals away.
Right when your steel hauler needs a vacation you are suddenly blessed with an abundence of the poor mans gold. Out there somewhere, someone is looking out for you, life is good.
Thanks for what you do😊 Hi from New Zealand
I wanna ship u all my bottles lol
Take the good with the bad
i feel your painsome it pisses me off in howsome scrapers are thay get and thay wont take the time to clean it to get the most out of it like you& me i'm starting to melt more of my aluminum &copper for a big payday???$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
You know, I bet you could make money doing Brad Pitt voice overs... reading adult books for women... You sound just like him. Especially when you are thinking out loud/talking to yourself.
Same here, I've been going to 4 spots locally as I ride my bike but the pay off is and if you equate the fact I spend nothing on aquiring or transporting except my back and neck lol, anyway a stuffed back pack full of romex, 0 gauge copper cable like the second smallest to the biggie cable, and also the super thick bx aluminum wire as well, and often some brass pipes and copper, anyway I get a fully stuffed bag,it doesn't feel like it at first but, 15 to 25 pounds depending literally how much I can fit, 10 minutes ride back,20 to 40 minutes gathering if I'm being malicious because of my add meds, anyway point is never ran into problems from Sept 2013 to now never even met most of these face to face no law enforcement problems mostly maybe twice in 10 years which is likely because I'm never a slob 8 always clean up and I even pick up stuff I didn't drop so a silent thank you or a silent ill clean,it up no biggy 👍 goes a long way youde be surprised tbh
That was a radio hams dish thub NOT SCRAP btw if you ever speak to a radio ham about scrapping copper or aluminum LOL both are excellent antennas for us they hate the word crap SHHH I scrapped a 20llll
