I’ve been intrigued by Man-Eating Typewriter ever since you mentioned it last week Marc, who couldn’t be with that title, and glad to hear it lives up to its quirky promise!
Congrats to your Phillies!🎉 just starting MAN-EATING TYPE....as part of the Goldsmiths short list so look forward to this and several you have coming up (I follow your Good Reads page!)🙆♀️📚❤️
ordered skin elegies!,,,,ive loved my red heaven and always crashing.....sooo surprised and happy youre reading curtis white...dalkey and meville publish his books (2 of my fave publishers).....as for smith, the only. smith i've really enjoyed was white teeth....smith, to me, begs the question, can GREAT and interesting writing be achieved when you are in the spotlight as an author...smith is literally a celebrity and i've often felt sorry for her....she is a very smart essayist...very smart, and works hard...but i feel (as presumptious and pretentious as this sounds, i admit) her talent has ben klieg lighted....every sentence, every story, every book she writes, is under so much pressure and so many eyes.....and she doesnt see free and alone enough to expand those talents and that fierce intelligence....then again, being an interesting writer is not at all always about intelligence, especially critical talented....anyway, as i've mentioned privately, i too am thrilled with olsen...addictive writer and it is rare to read a polyphonic novel as smart as poetic as Olsen's....
Hi Jacqui, I had such a bad experience with Paul Murray's "Skippy Dies, i'm very reluctant to turn to him again, though Bob The Bookerer really recommends The Bee Sting. How are you finding it?
having been disappointed with Sterling Karat Gold and and now regretting investing in another 500 pages on the Third Reich via The Book Thief, I really need to listen to recommendations! Read that Curtis White years ago, which I remember as being better than Memories of My Father Watching Television, read last month. May pick up Requiem, though. (he and I share admiration for Gilbert Sorrentino) Liked Zadie Smith's more adverturesome short stories in Grand Union, less so the novels. Man-Eating Typewriter sounds like my kind of fare, thanks
@@MarcNash having my doubts - it's very $$ here ($36) for something that involves learning a language, that I may not finish! on the trail of another author you liked, Richard Sukenick
You have a great channel. Just one thing: it would be a lot more contemporary if you said “GLBTQ” community, or “gay” community, rather than “homosexual.” 😊

You should try to read Donovan’s Brain by Curd Siodmak. Such a fun read.
Ooooh not heard of that one. I shall get on it right away. Thanks Ann
@@MarcNash It’s pure amusement. ☺️
@@AnnNovella I've ordered it! It was a 60s Corgi edition.

@@bbbartolo fair enough, always forget that books published in UK/US can be very expesnive in countries outside of theose two

You're absolutely right, I was just talking in the terms of the novel itself, set in the pre-legalisation UK of the 1960s
