@@odeo5691 just learn to wait a few milliseconds after seeing their animation before the attack then its pretty easy. i would say the hardest thing about parrying is not parrying itself but not knowing when an enemy does a combo, there is specific animations that tells you when they’re gonna do a big combo on you and yeah u basically just need to learn all their attack patterns so if uknow its a 4 hit combo, u can parry x3 then get one hit in and parry the last one because the last hit is always a heavy attack so it takes a while for them to do their last hit. if its a x5 combo then parry x4, try get hit in(obivously optional) and then parry the last hit of the combo. overall to get a good speedrun or kill enemies faster in general, it really just depends on rng so if they dont do much combos and its basically just a hit n run then its way quicker to take it down becuz combos take a long ass time to finish aka waste of time and if u got rlly bad rng to the point where they spam combos, its gonna take you 2x longer to kill it than the usual time. and of course, each enemy has a different attack time so u gotta pay really close attention to the milliseconds then just predict and hope for the best.

Thanks! Looking back I'm annoyed I didn't go for a cleaner run actually, but almost under 35 minutes is still not to be sniffed at ey. That's awesome! Best advice I could give is to launch yourself into as many fights as you can and try to parry as much as you can. Start with bombardiers, orbs and ladybugs and you'll be dominating in no time ;) Oh and use a shield too (scan some weevil meat), they're very powerful
@@HolyCodzta yea, as this category ages runs should become much more optimised, could probably eventually get under 30 minutes although that could be a bit too optimistic. The saves that you did will eventually stop happening for world record attempts. But I did watch this fully, it was a great run. Plus now I actually know how hedge broodmother works.
This run did put sub 30 on my radar but without anyone else running it or even running the game at the time I didn't have the motivation to improve. Think I calculated that I lost about 4 minutes but I don't think that included save time which would now be useless anyway cause we can't reroll bug parts, might still save for the haze clip though unless I really need every second. Haven't looked at this run for a while but would probably need to make slight route adjustments for the sub 30 too. Thanks, haha good stuff

People who have never speedran a game let alone grounded have no right to talk about story skips and or glitches, its crazy how ppl can't just enjoy the game. In a game like Mario or Half Life b-hopping or Backwards long jumping is a staple of speedruns let alone being the fastest. Games like Hollow Knight or Spelunky 2 have intentionally not nerfed these kinds of glitches or Skips because it brought more skill to the speedruns. Its crazy how ppl can't just enjoy a video or just fuck off if they don't like it. In the end, the comments help the video reach others so win-win for you regardless. Good work dude this speedrun was awesome.
I don't mind people commenting saying they don't like glitched runs, just depends on how they say it, and even if they're rude I find it funny anyway. But saying something like "man not really a fan of glitched runs tbh, would be cool to see a glitchless run" is perfectly reasonable to me. Haven't tried this on my own yet, but my daughter and I did 6 runs with the Brood Mother back to back.. also The orchid mantis, they're tuff, but tbh the Black widow is still harder sometimes.

They are pretty nutty.... Yeah critting will cancel it and sometimes she just won't do it. It does suck though, might as well stand still and watch my time tick up until it's over

@@boxeddoggogaming1014 Jumping up the rock is the hardest part for sure. You wanna focus separately on where you're taking off from and where you're landing. I kept making tiny adjustments to those and can now get it almost every time. Or skip that jump entirely and jump from the grass to the top rock ;)

Plus since you also have tons of grass in the area if you don't want to keep jumping. I jury rigged a half grass wall step ladder to bypass it. It even help me skip jumping over the second wall to the woodpile. I want to keep that under wraps too. Getting ant eggs can be a chore.

I barely just finished Hedge with 2 of my friends, we're at least 16 hours in and taking our time. We suck at parrying so even Ladybugs are messing us up lol
General tips would be to practice block cancelling all the time as that will help you squeeze out the most dps, can explain that if you haven't heard of it, and dedicate some time to practicing parrying each enemy for a while without attacking back until you get bored. For black widow I'd make sure you can consistently parry the wolf and orb first as the widow's move set is those two combined but faster. Same with infected wolf and Broodmother. If a stink bug spots you from a distance it will do a leaping gas attack, then it'll try and get close to do a standing gas attack, then it will do a second leaping attack. After that it will bite a few times before going back to gassing so this is the time to kill it. If you sneak up on one and hit it to aggro it, it will do a standing gas attack then only do one leaping attack, so that's faster than if it spots you. Gas mask or ranged weapon would be easier but not necessarily faster in a speedrun. For mosquitoes, if you get too far away from them they'll lock on and zoom in towards you, so run backwards away from them to bait them into doing this, swing once while they're out of range so you can land the more damaging second and third attacks of your combo then parry, rinse and repeat. Playing solo it doesn't really matter! I've still managed to parry a widow in multiplayer after joining my friend though, just not quite as good as this
question: do the rules say u have to keep the timer running during loading screens? just wondering cuz if u dont u could save a couple seconds of time on ur run.
Not really doing these to any particular rule set, Grounded speedrunning community is too small. I guess we'd go by in-game time if there was anyone else actually competing and our times were close enough though yeah. I did go through this run and add up all the time losses including load screens and in total could save almost four minutes with perfect RNG. Also, I'd have to split it manually as there's no auto splitter for this game and I would find it kind of awkward trying to pause and unpause the timer when loading. For future runs I could definitely add the accurate run time excluding load times to the end of the video though!
Not sure tbh, haven't really played casually since the natural explorer changes. I used slippers, widow chest and brood mask all sleek though and would swap to widow legs for mantis. Sleek ladybug's always a good shout, roly poly is overrated imo. Fire ant is good for the debuff.
Sure. After grabbing the rotten ant club I used the Give Up option in the menus which killed me, then I chose to respawn at the kid case, then I recovered backpacks in the Game Repair menu. Basically this just teleports me and all my stuff, including any other backpacks I've dropped elsewhere, to the kid case, saving lots of travel time.
I've heard it might be the rusty spear, I would just infuse my tools with different candies though to cover the most difficult creatures. Spicy axe, fresh hammer etc
Man did it in 30 minutes and i play this game for like 4months maybe i need to encourage myself to finally fight her and i got all tier 3 items and they are upgraded

I barely just finished Hedge with 2 of my friends, we're at least 16 hours in and taking our time. We suck at parrying so even Ladybugs are messing us up lol
Learning the game, it's tough! I still struggled with parrying ladybugs long after I got consistent at parrying wolves, definitely recommend a shield
@@HolyCodzta Yeah we have shields, still try to parry though. I found that you can just throw 5 spiked sprigs at them and kill them reliably.

General tips would be to practice block cancelling all the time as that will help you squeeze out the most dps, can explain that if you haven't heard of it, and dedicate some time to practicing parrying each enemy for a while without attacking back until you get bored.
For black widow I'd make sure you can consistently parry the wolf and orb first as the widow's move set is those two combined but faster. Same with infected wolf and Broodmother.
If a stink bug spots you from a distance it will do a leaping gas attack, then it'll try and get close to do a standing gas attack, then it will do a second leaping attack. After that it will bite a few times before going back to gassing so this is the time to kill it. If you sneak up on one and hit it to aggro it, it will do a standing gas attack then only do one leaping attack, so that's faster than if it spots you. Gas mask or ranged weapon would be easier but not necessarily faster in a speedrun.
For mosquitoes, if you get too far away from them they'll lock on and zoom in towards you, so run backwards away from them to bait them into doing this, swing once while they're out of range so you can land the more damaging second and third attacks of your combo then parry, rinse and repeat.

question: do the rules say u have to keep the timer running during loading screens? just wondering cuz if u dont u could save a couple seconds of time on ur run.
Not really doing these to any particular rule set, Grounded speedrunning community is too small. I guess we'd go by in-game time if there was anyone else actually competing and our times were close enough though yeah. I did go through this run and add up all the time losses including load screens and in total could save almost four minutes with perfect RNG.
Also, I'd have to split it manually as there's no auto splitter for this game and I would find it kind of awkward trying to pause and unpause the timer when loading.
For future runs I could definitely add the accurate run time excluding load times to the end of the video though!

Not sure tbh, haven't really played casually since the natural explorer changes. I used slippers, widow chest and brood mask all sleek though and would swap to widow legs for mantis. Sleek ladybug's always a good shout, roly poly is overrated imo. Fire ant is good for the debuff.

Sure. After grabbing the rotten ant club I used the Give Up option in the menus which killed me, then I chose to respawn at the kid case, then I recovered backpacks in the Game Repair menu.
Basically this just teleports me and all my stuff, including any other backpacks I've dropped elsewhere, to the kid case, saving lots of travel time.

I've heard it might be the rusty spear, I would just infuse my tools with different candies though to cover the most difficult creatures. Spicy axe, fresh hammer etc

Mate with levelled up tier 3 gear you'll smash her! Make a couple sticky human food, fuzz on the rocks and liquid rage smoothies too and you're set.
