  • Common uses for a Play ship.... Making pilots bail, taking down hardpoints, defeating an enemy quickly and then... Taking down mines or laser towers.
Here are some sets up that i have found useful and think can be very useful.
How do you set up your ship?
*Full disclosure: clip in the beginning was filmed after the talking bit…. Muon charger and plasmas on a Shih…. Pretty quick work.*

Holy god the combat speed of the Gladius is 149 m/s. That thing is going struggle outrunning a Xenon K. My rattlesnake with basic engine mods is trucking along at 399 m/s. I think it was traveling at 222 m/s out the box with no engine mods. If I had to choose between Gladius or Shih I'd probably go with Shih. Both of these have super thick hulls, and unless they changed this having thinner hulls on your pirate ship is favored for forcing pilots to bail.

The hull is still in the equation for bailing. Yeah some ships and their speeds don’t make sense. 😂

The Glady is built to work with the Terran boost engine. If you are using its advantages, you are constantly hopping in and out of travel drive and boost during combat. Vs a K , you can easily use travel drive/boost with flight assist disabled to set up strafe runs at 1-2k m-s and 4x meson streams to knock out its turrets and then cripple it. If you must run from something you just just boost into a travel drive cruise instantly. I would not use it for pirating though.

Most of the time your best off with "all purpose" weapons like Puls Laser, oder Bolt Rep.; specialized setups are only good for very specific scenarios, so i rarely use them on any of my ships.

That is true. You can get away with just using pulse. It’s a decent all round weapon. But when you need to board ships or take down hard points that can be a lengthy engagement.

Is there a good combo for Xenon fighters? I can't survive more than one of their light or heavy fighters in my heavy fighter.

What ship, engine and shield are you using?
One of these three things can greatly affect the course of combat with the Xenon.
I'll always suggest Teladi Mk3 for shield for S class and Mk2 for M class if you can't get Terran Mk3. The hit points are just better. For weapon, Mk2 Pulse, plasma, Muon charger, thermal disintegrator. I'd stay away from the Beam weapons like Mass driver. Engine..... Split, Paranid, Argon combat engines.
If you are still having an issue... try having a few laser tower Mk1 for S class ships and Friend/Foe mine..... But once you drop that mine boost out of there!

@@T-Skillet Currently in an Eclipse Vanguard with 4 Mk2 Pules, Arg Combat Engine Mk 2, Arg Shield Mk2. Does Teladi Mk3 unlock at reputation 20?

@@High_Goblin_King You should not need to unlock it, if so then level 10. They only have Mk3 for S class. If you can Muon Charger or Plasma will help take down Xenon fast but keep 2 pulse when they overheat.

Eclipse has 4 guns and if I recall 2 shields, and it's pretty slow. It should be able to take down even a P, not to mention 2 or 3 M/N ships. What it sounds like to me is a skill issue. The speed is best way to stay alive usually cos you can get out of enemy weapon range and recharge your shields, even if you run out of shields and you can't boost. Eclipse is slow so you can't do that.
So in a heavy fighter you should try to just dodge enemy fire. Ducking and weaving, rolling while going left and right, up and down. It really is surprising how much you can throw off the enemy aim when doing all that, specially against xenon whos fighters have extremely hard hitting and long range main guns, but their projectile travel time is not too fast. Even when going head to head against a fighter you can hold space to keep shooting while just going up and dow just enough so enemy tends to miss most of it's shots, while it's flying straight ahead and facetanking your shots. And lastly if an enemy boosts away, boost and chase it. Keep it within 3 kilometers, but try not to overuse your boost cos it drains shield. Once enemy has boosted is usually tried to turn around and fly straight ahead of you to shoot you down, but if you're fast enough to start shooting it before it turns around, it's going to be in deep trouble.
Lastly as far as equipment goes, get split or paranit combat engines (split mk4 are pretty OP but really expensive) for the best normal and boost speeds, pulse lasers are great weapons and you can't go wrong. Or 2 pulses and 2 blast mortars is fun, but it takes a bit time (I made blast mortars a secondary weapon so I could throw them out like missiles) then shields, paranid works well, they have really short shield recharge delay. Combat thrusters are better for up and down movement so you always want to roll so you can go yaw or pitch in close range dogfight to get enemy in front of your gun barrel, so don't try to turn left or right with them. As for ship, eclipse ain't bad but it's hella slow so if you can get even green upgrades for it, it would be really nice. Just for engine and chassis, get the nudger for up to 45% forward thrust and whatever the drag upgrade was for chassis. For shield, recharge delay or capacity works well but it's more up to your personal preference.
If you want to change into a better ship, get something split made. They are fast and lots of guns, or the pioneer takoba which is extremely fast with 2 shields and guns. Good practice ship for dogfights cos it's super forgiving.
