I feel like I'm the only one enjoying WRC 2023. It's the best rally game that I have played so far. Dirt 2.0 is better in some areas but as an overall package WRC 2023 is better in my opinion. I do wish the game was better graphically and need optimization in other areas. Hopefully they improve the aspects you mention in the next game or updates. Cheers
I am wanting to pick up EA WRC but have been put off as every video I see complains about stuttering and graphical issues on PC. Has this issue been fixed? I have a high end pc but dont want to buy the game if it runs like crap, Should I stick with Dirt 2.0 or get EA WRC?
realtalk about a game that needs a little more love for detail. I totally agree with you, the driving experience is really great but visually too flat and dull. The sound does bring out some emotion. I wouldn't mind another DLC or a new WRC. I'm fine with both.
The rallies and stages are great so is handling. Graphics is the main issue for me and some retired cars on the side of the road or unexpected moments like DR 2 would add to the immersion. Co driver voice could be improved too.
My biggest gripe with EAWRC is about the quality of the co-driver calls. Bunching is odd, pacing is monotonous, timing is often off, and there's almost no sense of tension. Even if they couldn't afford full recordings like in DR1/2, they surely could have done a better job. Despite using a real co-driver, it's somehow worse than DIRT3.
Thing for me was that Dirt rally 1 blew my mind on controller for how much focus it took and how raw. I stopped playing it after about 20 hours because i just thought that I was missing out on the point of the game without sim rig. Then after getting Dirt Rally 2.0 on sale with all dlc i got the go ahead to buy a G920, proper H shifter and cheap rig. I got my mind blown away by DR 2.0... Learning the different drivetrains, old turbo cars, modern 4wd, the Escort mk 2 with shifter on the left... I did everything i could to boost immersion. By the time EA wrc came out I had pretty much learned everything and they simplified the handling just enough for me to kinda feel like i had already played the game before. I like wrc but it just didnt blow my mind like DR2.
You are spot on pal! As someone who exclusively races in VR, the lack of those brilliant small details seen in DR2 compared to WRC has significantly downgraded the overall experience. WRC feels so dull and "gamey", whereas DR2 feels unbelievably realistic and immersive. Pretty much the only thing WRC does better is the tarmac physics and the overall stage variety. Everything else like the overall visuals, the sound design, the dirt physics, the crowds, the random events, the particle effects, the lighting, the rain effects, the co-driver, the classic cars etc. are all vastly superior in DR2.
Hi! I agree with u in all aspects, sadly I believe that wont be a game for the 2024 season, because we would have already some news about It, and as an esport driver, codies said that in september we would have some news about esports oficial events, so... I dont think WRC 24 would come... But we Will see. Anyways all that u commented would be nice for the next game
Agree. Front grip is way too high on gravel imo and the car's weight and center of mass and pivot point seem a bit off also. Other thing thats pretty big downgrade is that you cant drive down the fences or other roadside objects, everything is just like concrete block, even small bushes...
There is so much to love in EA WRC such as the cars and stages, but equally there is so much to frustrate. On a next gen console its hard to understand why something like the fences and surrounding environment remain absolutely solid, when in Dirt Rally 2.0 these items broke and you could find yourself in a field trying to find the road again. The pace notes should have an alternative option where drivers can select to have 1 as the fastest note instad of 6 and vice versa for slowest, as this is a commonly used system in the sport and would just require a small patch for a remap of the audio.....its probably more complicated but I think its doable. Tyre degradation was a feature of the CMR games on PS2, yet its never been repeated as well on newer hardware. The livery editor is a great feature, but real brands and logos really need to be given licence to be used, with nearly all brands already present on various liveries already in some shape or form. The only real restriction they would have to enforce for that would be to make the Ford, Ford Racing, Ford Performance or Ford Motorsport logos only available to Ford products and the same for Opel, Peugeot, Citroen etc etc. I dont think that these are demands that are too much to ask for
Mostly agree with your thoughts and hope for either DLC or a new game, but the issue with the latter is that very few people bought the game we have now (especially with a pretty high price it has) and i fear making the same people who did buy it pay again is not a great plan. The idea of an expensive game which we had to buy once was that it was gonna be updated (and so we were promised on release). I also think that if making yearly releases was the plan the game would have a year number in its name. And I think yearly releases is the worst idea for a rally game: much fewer people care about rally than about stuff like f1 of football so they wont be able to make enough cash off of rally fans.
I LOVE the multiplayer in this game. It’s a bit time-consuming with the wait times. And it’s wonky to figure out the first time (a lot of people complain that it’s broken and ridiculous) But it’s such a satisfying way to play, and I think it should get a ton of hype, and should be improved and implemented into every rally game from now on (But I usually don’t hear people mention it…) I’ve had so many fun times on it. Joining lobbies of clans who are drilling practices on certain stages. So many random and fun situations where you get to go head to head with people in real time
I agree, the tarmac is very On/Off in it's grip, gravel can feel really nice when it is that more gritty rolling gravel where you can really feel the wheels dig in and just slide. It differs which is nice, not all gravel is the same, Kenya sand is a bit more grippy I would imagine and the more small stone filled gravel roll way more. But yeah a bit more slide here and there because I notice sometimes in Kenya that I have a hard time getting the car into a nice slide like it grip a bit too much, same there a bit On/Off, like the sweetspot for losing grip is just too steep and have no spectrum. Edit: I agree, one thing I loved in the old Ralli Sport Challenge games were the hill climbs, they were so much fun, not sure why they are not in other games as much.
It's so clearly all because of EA cutting costs and rushing the game. And as you said, I also hope another codemasters comes and blows EA wrc out of the water. We need more competition in the rally category.
For the construction of this text I will use a translator. Personally, I think that this game "EA Sport WRC" has forgotten about the fans of "Dirt Rally", the game is much more arcade or is presented in a more arcade way than its previous version "Dirt Rally 2.0"; the game at this point seems to try to attract a newer audience to rally games, this since it seems to be not as complex as DR2 (maybe I'm wrong), I really hope that this game improves, I love rally games and I share many of the points of opinion that you have given in this video, I just hope that this world of rally simulators continues to grow, perhaps a button to make the game more simulator and less arcade would be a solution.
Yeah, when it comes to regularity rally, when I saw the trailers I was like "That's neat." When I first drove a regularity rally event, I was like "That's neat. I hate this."
One thing I absolutely don't want and disagree with is making this into a yearly game where multiplayer always dies every year and you split the playerbase. It is better it's on a 3-4 year cycle and then dlc for the annual championship etc.
The problem with having too much grip on gravel is fault of default setups, I usually make the cars more oversteery to help with rotation. Lowering diffs can do a lot. Overall the game feels a bit too 'dead' or dry. Don't know how to put it better. Unreal Engines problem is that for devs 90% of stuff is miles easier to do, but the last 10% of quality and polish is impossible. Also the performance is really bad and it looks good only on ultra while its so blurry you can't see further than 5m. Compared to dr2 ea WRC is much more complete package and a better game. People just expected it to be more immersive and performance problems combined with not so good graphics especially when you start lowering settings to get the performance killed the game at launch. People these days just decide if the game is good or bad at launch and don't look back. I got my over 200h of enjoyment from this game, but if they will try to release 2024 version I would like to at least see tire physics improvements. (like you said inability of mixing compounds is likely engine limitation)
Speaking of codemasters having a monopoly: that is the reality of having the exclusive license and codies have the same issue with f1 which i think escalated even further in the last few years. Even funnier: the first f1 game to come out after EA bought codies - f1 2021 - felt like a downgraded version of f1 2020 in many aspects like the lack of classic cars, track variety, etc. Its not like any dev team could just make an f1 or a wrc game and blow codies away so we just have to hope they know what they have to do to make the best rally game there can be (and dont make us pay yearly for the annual re-release of it)
My friend wants me to get this so bad. I played alot of Dirt Rally 2 on Ps4 and almost want to get it again for the PC. The launch of this soured me a little hearing some of the gripes. I guess i will make a decision after putting my second PC together
Dirt Rally has better car models, visual style and atmosphere. WRC has better stages and handling. The dust trails as well, are incredible. Best I've ever seen. It took me a while but WRC is better overall.
@ 2:08, you have driven off course and now there is a bush in your car. so immersive that i had to spit out some leaves and twigs. WRC has a long way to go to match DR2.
best immersion for me is gt7 on the nordschleife with changing time of day and weather. and i dont even have a wheel anymore, nor the vr headset. still makes me feel like im in that car. another one is dare i say it, colin mcrae dirt 2. not 2.0. the arcade one. it has so much immersive little details: the festival atmosphere, the (visual) damage model, the cockpit interior, how the codriver reacts to your driving, how track side detail like poles or brickwork get destroyed by cars, how you can catch drivers in front of you or ai crashes on the road.
Totally agree but I don’t think they will do a new game come September. It’s such a small dev team and the same as Dirt Rally & 2.0 which only came out every 3 or 4 years. I think it will be DLC and tweaks till they get their head around the change in Engine. Probably a new game in 2025. It needs atmosphere. How hard would it be to make the stages more alive, could do something like Ghost of Tsushima 😬
I just wish i could play some ranked style multiplayer that had a feeling of progression. it's insane they leave all of the lobby making up to the players also, sometimes ill get on and try to join a lobby but yhere is literally none available and when i try to make my own session, nobody joins and i wish i had some preset championships to choose from instead of having to mash together something myself. For thebmore hardcore fans i bet its fun making your own rallys but for casual players like myself, i want some more pre set stuff. And tuning is wayyyyyyyyyy too complex for someone who doesnt have real life experience working on car setups. It feels like if they put 10% more effort into this game it could be 90% better
The most intense and gritty is by far RBR for me. This is mostly due to how the roads are modeled so much better-divots, slants, cambers-it’s all there and it’s lovely I can’t stand how the roads are all smoothed out in Codies And the other advantages of camera freedom, pace notes freedom As well as the other stage pros of unique assets for each stage, *collisions on assets that make sense* - This all symbolizes for me that Codies simply doesn’t want to simulate rally for real They have the style of game they like to make, and that’s it For some reason they don’t want it to be a pure simulation, they don’t want the roads to be accurate, etc. To me that is very disappointing, so RBR is at the top for me
I see a lot of people liking this game a lot. I’m not sure why it feels weird to me-that includes DR2. I guess it feels like many things are scripted and game-y rather than feeling like results of a simulation Graphically I think they’re both great. I think people overblow it all. I totally get saying you prefer one or the other-but turning that into “this game is so bad compared to the other one” doesn’t make sense to me - Not only does the handling feel scripted sometimes But also the roads are SO disappointing This is one of the best things about RBR to me. They model the roads as well as possible-including divots, slants, all of that I have no idea why Codies doesn’t do this. It totally kills the vibe of rally for me. I can’t stand the roads being all smoothed out What the point? Simulate the real world for rally Why bother doing anything else? The more they don’t do this, RBR just remains as the best simulator (which is great actually because you get all those fantastic modeled stages for free-support the creators) Codies never went this route-most likely they never would have. But especially now that they are contracted with EA-I think they will continue to do exactly this To get a rally sim that simply wants to simulate rally-we’re gonna need a new studio to do that
And all these weird things like how bad the collisions are RBR stage creators don’t have this problem. They give good collisions to the objects in the stage. Wtf? It’s just weird to get this wrong And that they re-use assets across different stages. Really? Get the proper trees, use different obstacles and assets that match the stage and area of the world you are in. You’d think this would just be built in to the plan of making stages
Being able to write your own pace notes, and to share and download peoples’ pace notes is also vastly superior to Codies’ pace notes system And having freedom over your camera position is also far superior In Codies game you can only adjust your camera when you’re in the cockpit view-and it’s arbitrarily different for different cars-sometimes you can’t get the right height and distance This is actually a big deal-we have people using triples, single, ultrawide-different FOVs We need camera options. To me this is very key, and not having it is another wtf
Your talks have a lot of dead air and take a long time to get to the point. For the first time watching is annoying and i had to stop half way through. For me WRC games need a career mode that is just a drivers mode since menaging finances isnt fun at all and i am not the team Principal. Daily/weekly/monthly challenges like in dirt 2.0 they make me come back again and again. Petter pace notes and better co driver voices since they sound extremly flat and bored.
Many companies did major overalls with patches and DLCs! No need to Cod rob us again! Just reset time tables if they change physics and just add rallycross as DLC! WTF man! Are you playing on EA side or something?
the way they have broke the trust of the community with the terrible state of wrc23 at launch and beyond they will deservedly have a very low sales at the launch of a new game....
Game design for this is terrible IMO. The career mode is a mess and so much worse than DR2 - it's more complex, cluttered and yet somehow has less variety. I can't drive a single rally with loads of classes without being able to run road positions 60-90. What's the point of regularity? Moments are so much worse than the daily/weekly setup. Graphics are worse, so much less immersive. Look at the water splash in your video! So poor. Compare the rain to the Assetto Corsa CSP mod. The dirt build up to DR2. Broken down or crashed competitors you could react to!? I bought the game, couldn't log in because EA locked my account due to inactivity (tried FIFA demo years ago) and when I was finally able by creating an account with a fake email I couldn't get a refund of the stuttering mess. I love rally. I loved DR1 and DR2 - all I wanted was more content (and weather not being dependent on the difficulty mode) - I can't believe how bad the choices were that led to what we got. I'd love to get some use from it; I've played less than 5 hours, most of that trying to fix stuttering. I'd like to try the stages and cars. But I can't see it happening unless they can make a game I want to actually play. At this point, I'd rather they made DLC for DR2; it has more players, it'd probably sell better. I won't buy DLC for this game. I might consider a purchase for a game I consider playable and immersive. Don't add hillclimb or RX though please, just a waste for me.
I feel like I'm the only one enjoying WRC 2023. It's the best rally game that I have played so far. Dirt 2.0 is better in some areas but as an overall package WRC 2023 is better in my opinion. You‘re not alone. Same here. 👍🏼 EA WRC feels great.

Optimization is what is killing the game for me... So if it's not optimized, then a big NO.
@@makavelisreturn86 I got Dirt 2.0, don't buy unfinished games, they need to learn a lesson. Don't support lazines in developers!
Couldn't agree with you more!!
You alright Mikeyy 😉

I just wish EA would take the sim racing community seriously. Your take is spot on.

It's so clearly all because of EA cutting costs and rushing the game. And as you said, I also hope another codemasters comes and blows EA wrc out of the water. We need more competition in the rally category.
DR2 definitely gave me the most immersive experience but it lacked the feel and stage lengths of wrc

To be fair it’s hard to compete with the epic feeling of Wales in the rain 😆
But I agree, that should be a goal

Il est sur et certain pour le prochain WRC je vais attendre plus qu'il le faut car franchement jai les yeux qui pique avec le 2023
I dont think i will play it that much before we get a "fix/update" for the vr beta

Great video, but I disagree about the grip on gravel. DR 2.0 is too slippery, WRC does a better job.

It's as simple as making other rally car available in form of starting before player, or crashing on the side of the road
Really makes me sad :( this could have been such a good game. Unplayable for me in VR at the moment.

And that they re-use assets across different stages. Really? Get the proper trees, use different obstacles and assets that match the stage and area of the world you are in. You’d think this would just be built in to the plan of making stages
Being able to write your own pace notes, and to share and download peoples’ pace notes is also vastly superior to Codies’ pace notes system
And having freedom over your camera position is also far superior
In Codies game you can only adjust your camera when you’re in the cockpit view-and it’s arbitrarily different for different cars-sometimes you can’t get the right height and distance
This is actually a big deal-we have people using triples, single, ultrawide-different FOVs
We need camera options.
Leere Versprechungen... da kommt nichts brauchbares mehr
the way they have broke the trust of the community with the terrible state of wrc23 at launch and beyond they will deservedly have a very low sales at the launch of a new game....
Quit cause i can do wothout kernel anticheat. . Nothing wrong with the game, its pretty good.
EA WRC is still so fun to boot up
