I apologize for any mispronounced words or inaccuracies. I don't script (obviously) and try to work on nostalgic memory as much as possible. I've been sick all week with a near 101-degree temperature and wasn't all there myself.
That show was awesome!! You can watch it on RUclips. I think there was only one or 2 seasons of it but it was sooo freaking good lol. Core memory for sure.
I was the kid that love the Koei strategy games. I remember renting them constantly and when my Western PA grocery store Giant Eagle, shout out to my Iggle Video members out there, stopped carrying video games, I bought Liberty or Death, Operation Europe, PTO, and PTO II. Those 4 games kept my SNES active well into the early 2000s. I was a weird kid. I my SNES from 1992 final stopped working my freshman year in college, 2003, but I kept Liberty or Death, I still have my copy to this day, love Koei
1995 I was a freshman in high school. I associate high school so much with the PS1 I kinda forget how many bangers the SNES dropped in '95, and honestly that the PS1 didn't blow up until '96-'97 or so. Those years where different generations co-exist a bit are always interesting.
Oh Man, that took me back to the best year of gaming that I can remember. The SNES was peak era for fun in my opinion. That was such an amazing lineup. I played literally every game mentioned and they all have such fond memories. What a great video!! Loved it!❤
Castlevania X on snes is honestly different enough to be considered its own game and not just a different version of rondo. It even handles differently and has some different mechanics
Secret of Evermore was really good! It seems sadly forgotten, but I loved how you went through different eras, picking up age-appropriate weapons as you went, and the soundtrack was composed by Jeremy Soule, now famous for his work with the Elder Scrolls series. It is really buggy, though, and one of the programmers semi-famously doesn't even know what the secret gourd accessory does. And yes, Zoop was INESCAPABLE. Don't think I ever played it back in the day, but I don't think it was possible to pick up a magazine without seeing an ad for it.
Dude! Riggs!? The polish on the editing on this video is stellar. Did you get a new editor? Also new Camera? Been watching you for years but this looked polished, professional and crispy. Plus some great games to boot 👍💪👌😁
I have an editor friend who helps me sometimes. You can clearly see the difference like in this video when he does it. I've had this camera for a couple of years now, though.
These days I've been replaying Chrono Trigger, and I'm still amazed at how awesome it is. I consider that in the platform genre Yoshi's Island and DKC2 are at the same level of quality as Chrono Trigger. I was very lucky playing these masterpieces back in the day. By the way, I also had DKC3, which many consider inferior to 2 and even 1, but I disagree, it's very underrated. 2 is the absolute best anyway
Chrono Trigger is absolutely still in my top 3 of JRPGs, the soundtrack is a masterpiece. I remembered when I grabbed my copy used from a local grocery store's video rental space for $10 with the box, and shockingly the manual, because they were clearing out their Genesis & SNES games for N64 and PlayStation. I still have that cartridge and it still has the same 1st slot save data from the last person who rented it before I bought it because it was a New Game+ save with overpowered characters and I wasn't deleting that.
Man, I loved Secret of Evermore. Square did that team dirty by disbanding it shortly after the game came out because it didn't outsell Secret of Mana, but it was only released in one region with very minimal promotion. It's the first game Jeremy Soule composed for as far as I know (ya know... the Elder Scrolls guy). I'd love to see that game reimagined. I loved the alchemy system, but it was too easily abused or relied upon that took away from the physical combat, especially late game enemies.
I started to repair PC, formatting a pc with a floppy disc from DOS was very time consuming. Sega Saturn and PS1 was out. So those who could not afford those was still renting SNES games and Sega from Blockbuster.
Yes King Arthur and the Knights of Justice was a cartoon, it ran throughout 1992-‘93. Actor Garry Chalk & actor/blues musician Jim Byrnes provided some of the voice work on it.
Man, for me personally, 1995 had so many great memories!! I turned 12 that year, I saw the Power Rangers movie in the theater, had a great summer, and remember eagerly anticipating Yoshi’s Island and Donkey Kong Country 2. It wouldn’t be until years later that I would play Chrono Trigger and Earthbound but those games are absolutely fantastic!! Thanks for the trip down Memory Lane John.😊 Oh yeah, and Batman Forever is great.
"It's Boulder Time!" Yeah, he wrestles in Reactivate in Tri-Cities sometimes. I had to have the shirt for obvious reasons. Also one of the trainers at the school in Tacoma!
Love Yoshi's Island but the Fuzzy level glitches on my ZSNES emulator (I tried BSNES but it had timing and speed up / slow down issues in most games whereas ZSNES just works for almost everything). Its the only time(s) when it has any glitches in emulation for me. I beat Secret of Evermore twice back in 1995. I just really liked it.
@@MaxOakland No, I believe it's a known issue in ZSNES. I tried BSNES on an i7-6700K / 980Ti system and a mini i9-11900H with no GPU and found with no filters that even SMB1 in SM All Stars had timing issues where it would slow a bit periodically and then speed up right after that a bit. ZSNES runs everything flawlessly on both machines except for that level in YI.
I actually recently started playing that firefighter one. It's pretty unique, game I like it EMU I really enjoy these videos John cuz like I have all these romd and emus. There's quite a few now that I've checked out from your videos like this and your one game from each system.
10:15 King Arthur & the Knights of Justice was a cartoon about a football team transported back to Arthurian time by Merlin when the real King Arthur & his nights are imprisoned.
i didn't care much for Yoshi's Island until the fuzzy thing happened & then we played it all the time because of that! Glade to hear I'm not the only one who did that when i played the game! WWF on the SNES was the best! You could jump from one end of the ring to the other & then body slam! Love over the top sports video games they need to do more of that which made NBA Jam so good! i always wondered why Castlevania 4 moved better than Dracula X. Dracula X is an older Castlevania game, but came out later! Love knowing about that kind of stuff!
You missed Metal Warriors from Konami... I would say one of the best SNES games. the 2 player split screen battles where so fun. Some of my favorite SNES games to me on that year. I owned Megaman X2 and absolutely loved it. Same for Metal Warriors... I just bought a reproduction version of it to play on my good old SNES. I loved TopGear2 and TopGear3000. (Rented both had had amazing times playing it with my older brother. Also enjoyed the WWF Game.
1995 I got MK3 for the SNES, Killer Instinct, and Christmas Day I got DKC2. MK3 I probably got from Electronics Boutique aka Babbages later to be known as EB Games then Funcoland now known as GameStop. Killer Instinct I managed to pick up from Price Club now known as Costco. I got that around Sept as I remember picking that up around the time school started. Lastly DKC2 I got from KayBee Toy Store in the mall. I picked it up on Christmas Eve and opened it up the next day. Wu-Tang was in heavy rotation for me back then. Return to da 36 the Dirty Version, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx and Liquid Swords!
My sister and I rented Earthbound so much we probably could have bought it for all the rental fees. That Christmas I got it for myself and I still have it to this day.
I literally don't know what you're talking about. Top Gear 3000 was by *far* the best of the series. I am not a huge fan of racing games generally, but F Zero and Top Gear 3000 were undeniably great.
No, instead you bought the same game over and over again like Street Fighter 2 or you still paid the same 50, 60 or 70 dollars you do today but for a game that you could beat in an hour but the internet was as common back then so you didn't hear the same level of whining about it, so you all pretend it wasn't a thing.
That Batman Forever game is a lot like that horrible Sub Zero game. The lesson to be learned here is that mixing Mortal Kombat with platforming is a terrible idea
A reminder, LJN has never made a video game in their existence, much like Acclaim. Instead they would license for release games from smaller developer studios. Always pay attention to the copyright data, or splash screens, and you'll find out who made these "LJN" games.
LMAOO had to use footage of WWF WrestleMania: The Arcade Game from the Genesis version bc the SNES version had that crappy slowdown when there was 3 or more sprites on the screen
I remember going to see the Power Rangers movie in theaters with a friend and loving it. It’s a bad movie, but for a kid that loved the show, it was amazing 😂
Hey, I want to buy my friend a cheap game console because I am moving soon. The last system he had was a ps2 and he likes the games you can race and make your rigs, no pun intended?
Mighty morphin power rangers were a great example of the genesis having better versions. The movie game is much better, and the fighting game was exactly what you said you wanted the Snes version to be.
The SNES port of that WWF game was a lazy cash grab. Just 6 characters cuz they didn't want to bother converting the last two characters. Either that or they wanted to keep the cartridge size small to save money. The Genesis version had all 8 characters from the arcade.
I wanted to kick myself when I didn't buy Earthbound. I was working for Babbages and saw Earthbound on the shelf. It came packed with a strategy guide, so the box was huge. I didn't buy it because the screenshots made the game look like this was a babies game. I got burned by Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest and didn't want to make that mistake again. Hind site is 20/20 and now a mint condition NIB copy of Earthbound is worth a fortune. Oh well. At least we got it now on the Switch and SNES Mini Classic.
actually IIRC Megaman X2 got you the dragon punch? would have probably been useful against sigma's final form in X1, oh well what can you do. I think fatal fury special was my favorite in the series, definitely gonna have to track that one down. and then CHRONO TRIGGER?! yeah enough said! definitely in the top two or three SNES RPGs, that and FF6, square was definitely king of the RPGs for that system. but I'll never forget getting that one for christmas!
True Lies probably the greatest LJN game. And thank you whoever on the development team decided to hell with the movie we're giving Arnold a Shotgun. My feeling about the Mighty Morphing Power Rangers the Movie are its ok but not nearly as good as the previous game. It has one major flaw IMO. Its set after the mid season two cast change. Having Zack and Trini, two of my three favorites from the original five leave did not make me happy and I didn't like the replacements even remotely as much as I liked the originals. The replacement Red wasn't bad but I never really cared about the original Red so that didn't help. I loved Revolution X in the Arcade. The first time I played it my RPG group was about to start a Cyberpunk 2020 campagin a day or two later and playing the game made me call the GM and ask if I could play a Rockerboy instead of the Techie I had drawn up. He said ok and I had fun but once I had some GMing experience I felt bad because I'm sure have to replan things since the party no longer had a Techie was a pain.
As soon as I saw Batman Forever, I could hear the level music with that silly busy organ part. The music wasn't 'bad' per se, but it totally didn't Batman... BUT it fit the game-ish? I dunno if that makes sense.😅 Also, SCREW that stupid Bat-Grapple mechanic!🤦♂️

It’s okay we love you but you did forget Final Fight 3 released Christmas 1995 December 21 and 22 for Japan and America released in 1996 for Europe
The addition of where to find the games (SNES Switch, SNES mini etc.) on the bottom of the screen is a very very nice touch. Thank you.
Get well soon!! 🙏
Me too that’s why I’m watching lol. Thanks for helping me get better
We know you're not very good at English, John..
King Arthur and the Knights of Justice was a cartoon. I loved it.

King Arthur and the Knights of Justice had one of the most badass themes for a cartoon. Just pure rock/metal goodness.
I love how you added the price tag and when it is on switch servis. Kudos 👏
I suspect Super Mario Wonder was inspired by Yoshi’s island Touch Fuzzy mechanic
Earthbound was my life back then
I know you might not see my comment but John Riggs I’m new to your channel and man do I love it keep it sir. Nostalgia over load.

Yoshi’s Island really is Mario World 2. It originated as the 5th game in the Mario series
