MY THOUGHTS: 1. If the GOAL is to stop people from speeding, then make yourself noticeable, that in itself will cause many to self check their own speed. 2. If the GOAL is to increase tickets/finance then unmarked cars is the way to go. 3. It use to be illegal for officers to hide behind signs etc in order to catch someone. Had the driver seen the officer he/she would have self checked. 4. It's a danger to have unmarked cars, people are less likely to pull over thinking it's not a real officer, which in it self will cause an officer to become angry that the person isn't pulling over. 5. The cars are pretty, but I don't think that's the way to go. Officers need to be set apart, not blend in. We need to know that police are out and about, it's good to see them, it brings a sense of security to the public.
People do self check speed when there's a cop, yes; but, there's simply not enough officers out there for people to always check their speed. And in today's world where law-enforcement employment numbers are down, there's a lot of opportunities for drivers to speed unchecked. Plus, how many times have you seen a cop on a freeway, the cop gets off, and traffic speeds right back up? Deterrence by presence only goes so far
Say what? It was never illegal to "hide" behind signs. Or other cars. It was considered better policy to use high visibility to "encourage" everyone to slow down. (the fuzz effect) Heck, AR GA and NC were using unmarked and low profile (door only) cars 40 years ago. Its not a new concept except maybe in Florida.

This is a good conversation to have. I was pulled over when I was 30 in south FL by an unmarked police minivan. I entered an empty school bus in a parking lot as instructed by the driver to collect a ball I had left on a playground. The local police was in an unmarked minivan staking out that parking lot looking for thieves breaking into cars. Unluckily, me retrieving my ball from the school bus looked very suspicious. The unmarked minivan followed me for about a mile before I noticed the blue lights, then another mile for me to find a busy parking lot to pull over. The whole time I was thinking... Am I being pulled over by a minivan? thankfully he was in full uniform and explained why he pulled me over and why he was driving the unmarked, and I explained why I was acting conspicuously. We reconciled and went on our way, but it could have ended a lot worse in different circumstances.
Your story is the very reason all of this is a horrible idea… your story creeps people out… a minivan with police lights stalking victims sounds like a lifetime movie waiting to happen!!!
Funny thing is now the speeders know what to look for😂 well Dubai they have Lamborghinis and Ferraris as police vehicles. Quite a few states have unmarked sports cars as state trooper vehicles. I’ve even heard that some highway patrol departments in some states used confiscated sports cars that are unmarked.
Most agencies use forfeited vehicles from drug cases of failure to pay for impound. So cheap as hell. Gotta try harder your argument is weak. You just want to speed, so do I but it's a game and they're doing a job legally.
Speeders are rarely the safety issue. Running red lights and stop signs. Blind lane changes, rude and inconsiderate driving inducing Road Rage. These are the safety issues. Speeding is just a 'tax' and revenue source.

Reason people should buy dashcams, to catch these officers who aren't chasing anyone driving wreckless, also these impersonators, wear uniforms as well, especially if they are plain clothes
In Colorado, they used to convert confiscated cars onto U/C vehicles. It was discontinued due to the suspicion that people were being targeted, or in some cases "evidence" was allegedly planted so certain vehicles would be forfeited.

All police patrol vehicles should be clearly marked. Undercover, unmarked cars are nonsense. Police should be seen, proactive and prevent crime- unfortunately, they create it.
Ok, the states I've lived in have been using unmarked police vehicles for years, does it bring the possibility of police impersonators (yes), I'm more in favor of the ghost-marked police vehicles, I would ask this question, are these unmarked police sports cars enforcing driving slow in the left lanes laws or just going after speeders
Here is a fun fact for you, none of these cars are legal. When you put warning lights on the car, they are required to display a certain amount of lumens. (they are usually also required to be visible 360°) By placing them behind tinted windows they reduce that between 50 and 90%, it puts the car out of spec and technically not permitted to be used. Not that anyone follows that law. As for the vehicles, being unmarked, I have seen plenty of departments that use a film that is basically one or two shades, darker, or lighter than the paint that does say, police, but if you weren't paying attention, you would never see it. I can see the benefit of the use of these unmarked cars in specific circumstances, but there is a reason why most jurisdictions in the country ban the use of unmarked cars to do traffic stops
"but there is a reason why most jurisdictions in the country ban the use of unmarked cars to do traffic stops" There is no jurisdiction in the United States where unmarked cars cannot perform traffic stops. They cannot be used primarily for traffic enforcement, but they are still allowed to make stops. "they are required to display a certain amount of lumens. (they are usually also required to be visible 360°) By placing them behind tinted windows they reduce that between 50 and 90%" Not if they are TIR lenses. Also, manufacturers do not produce them to meet the lumen requirements, they produced they to drastically exceed those requirements, so even if they were tinted, they still meet requirements.
I believe the opposite approach works better. All cars should be marked & visible for everyone's safety. Let me explain. No one sees an unmarked vehicle. They will continue to drive fast until they get pulled over. When there is a marked vehicle present EVERYONE slows down.
The police departments around the Atlanta area definitely need to copy this program. I try to stay off of the highways because of the idiots who drive like they are nascar drivers.
Drivers know when they are significantly above speeds limits or being reckless. However, most of the time, they don't care. So, there are no big surprises when the lights and sirens come on. Consequently, I have no problem with using these vehicles for high speed pursuit or surveillance. However, I would recommend against them in other kinds of stops, the kinds where being in plain clothes or not looking official are valid concerns. This is especially true driving alone at night where flashing roof lights are more visible.
This is just sad, more control, more government authority, more encroachment from the part of law enforcement. Florida is supposed to be a free state, not an orwellian police state where everything you do is being monitored and where you are forced to drive like an old lady at all times, this is just disgusting.
Exactly! Dude I have recorded police for years since dashcams came out. Police are such hypocrites, they are just your neighbor in a costume breaking laws just like everyone else. I’m over this nonsense
Cheap USA law enforcement,Dodge ,Ford and Chevrolet are a red flag for a speeder , easy to spot. A Mercedes,BMW, Cadillac, Bentley, Ferrari would be hard to suspect as undercover. Thanks
Do Not Stop Until A Marked Unit Is Behind You! I can not stress that enough. Flashing blue and red lights is NOT a clear indicator that you are being pulled over by a police officer. You need clear markers. There should be no question. Hell, this is nothing new over here in the North East Tri-State area. They love to use Unmarked vehicles for all types of stuff. That is why I like how it is done by our cousins across the pond. You are left with no question that you are dealing with an officer. This just allows more overreach and will lead to more corruption.
I remember I was speeding and an unmarked vehicle started flashing it’s light behinds me, so I went to take the exit, all of a sudden it keeps going straight with its lights off. I hate unmarked vehicles it makes me panic. Need to stop that nonsense honestly
So the policy is that a slow car should “take the lead as soon as possible”… *insert slow blinking stare here* Gotta love that cop logic. 🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️
Never pull over to an unmarked vehicle, ever. If you find yourself being followed by a vehicle with lights, keep driving without stopping, and don't break any laws while being followed. You're not legally obligated to stop in this circumstance. Do not pull over until you see a marked unit. Have the marked unit pull you over as a marked vehicle is the type which has the legal authority to do so. Don't break the law after you see lights and the case is automatically dismissed in court because the operation is beyond illegal. If you wanted to have some fun, you can technically and legally run for free but if you can't lose the unmarked car by the time the patrol joins, you're mildly stuck. Although a clear example of violating everyday citizens, appears law enforcement is doing this in the daytime so seems to be a program to keep drivers safe, at hours you should be driving the safest. They're mainly targeting "idiot drivers" with this operation.
Just dont speed. Use your cruise control. Leave a bit early, put in a CD of relaxing music and cruise along. I did it for over 45 years and NEVER got a ticket and a lot of the time I was smoking weed, but that was when I was young.
Nah, I live near “speed traps”. Where everyone goes 60 because it looks like a highway, but the idiots purposely made the speed limit 45. You usually find the pigs hiding behind trees or buildings. I noticed their pattern and haven’t been pulled over in years. 😂
Remember folks: when a cop comes up to ur window, violently reach into the glove box for ur insurance and registration so u have it ready before they ask of course
Here in Colorado, we had a girl killed by someone impersonating a police officer using red and blue lights in an otherwise non-descript car to pull her over. How are we, as citizens to know that the car behind us is a legit police car since stealth is the point here. It seems to me that the need to catch speeders and add dollars to the local coffers might be a tad reckless. I would also say that the fact that the Rand corp can't track whether there was a change in accidents was interesting, it is not a secret that the additional revenue generated is welcome in the agencies eyes. We had a police chief here move to using marked cars exclusively (and even went back to a black and white paint scheme) so that it was visible to all the motorists that traffic enforcement was happening. He also wanted his citizenry to see the police cars patrol neighborhoods and be visible rather than seeing a grey Explorer with all the windows tinted so dark you couldn't see the lights or the fact the driver was wearing a uniform.
ways to determine a fake cop from real cop 1: amount of flashing lights (usually around 6-9 leds per side) 2: wigwags (headlights or foglights flash) 3: if you can see well enough, whether the person in the car is in a uniform 4: car (police will usually either use expensive/fast cars, explorers, crown vics, chargers, and the taurus) 5: hubcaps (cop cars usually don't use them) 6: siren (if they're used it's probably a cop, sirens are expensive and annoying to set up)
Illegally generating and extorting money imagine that. Don't never stop for a unmarked car especially in today's country and world it isn't safe at all
I love it. We need more of them until the stupidity on FL roads stops. We already have too many drivers cruising at triple digit speeds combined with people too stupid to use signals and drivers too stupid to get out of the left lane. Add that to Florida's huge number of uninsured or suspended license drivers on the road. If Florida were a country, this would be a 3rd world country.
The problem with the minds of these arrogant drivers is that the first second they see a modern day hot rod, their testosterone and jealousy take over and they slam on the gas. As if that will prove they are a superior man. These guys know that the Charger/Challengers are super fast, and it bruises their ego. I find the undercover cars a great idea because this issue is widespread.
The only people worried about this are those who speed and drive aggressively. Where I live and travel, apx 92% of fatalities on 40-61 are due to those speeding where there are crossovers. Another fatal crash just 2 days ago
I think there needs to be more of this. Having the marked units just encourages the speeders and lawbreakers to only follow the law when they see an officer
A Challenger flying up behind you going 15 over and weaving without their blinker wouldn't entice you to have fun and do the same? Maybe you're 60 and don't enjoy shit like that but I'd say a majority of teens would hop right along and start doing it. They're causing more problems driving these cars than solving them. They make their money, what do you personally gain? Someone going a little over the limit isn't gonna hurt anyone and if it does they shouldn't be driving in the first place because they're simply incapable.
This is actually pretty dangerous. This country already has a horrible Police impersonation problem. Do you know why I love regular marked police cars with cops in uniform? Because I know who they are. If I see a Dodge Challenger, Ford Mustang, or any other car not known to be a regular Police car trying to pull me over, I’m stepping on the gas, dialing 911 & I’m not stopping until I officially know who that person is. Unmarked cars should NOT be allowed to make traffic stops. Ever. It’s kinda hard to train the general public about Police impersonators when you allow this.
Why would you get concerned if you are obeying the law. If people pulled over when the police turned on their lights, they would not need these cars. I’m all for it, they need more of them.
In Texas, The Texas Dept of Public Safety ( Highway Patrol) uses Ford Mustangs. In Far West Texas, ( Lubbock, Odessa and others) are using what ever comes from Property Seizures. I once saw a 1989 Chevy Corvette with a ton of Police Lites. And a Texas Ranger behind the wheel.
Everyone in Texas drives at least 15-20 over limit even when most highway speeds are 65-70 mph in most of the state, I hardly see anyone pulled over, it's a huge problem here.
I've always thought this was a good idea, except when I was younger. I pretty much drive similar cars to the ones I did when I got my license 30 years ago, the difference now is I don't need to race every Camaro I see. What I do see nowadays is people constantly speeding for no reason, usually on a side street in a BMW or Mercedes which is really dumb. Because of that I've seen my neighborhood turn into streets with speed-bumps, red light and speeding cameras everywhere but unfortunately it's become necessary because of these little A-holes. I say more undercover police cars, there's a time and place for driving fast but a side street is not one of those places.

@J.C... I pulled up to him quickly before I noticed, and also the guy behind me kept peeking around indicating him he wants to pass. So yea he was definitely baiting going under 5. MY THOUGHTS:
Sounds like you got a few speeding tickets.
No
People do self check speed when there's a cop, yes; but, there's simply not enough officers out there for people to always check their speed.
(the fuzz effect)
Heck, AR GA and NC were using unmarked and low profile (door only) cars 40 years ago.

Muscle cars, NOT sports car
Actually Mustang is a Pony car not a muscle car. So technically closer to a sports car than a muscle car. A muscle car is a mid size sedan with a large motor like a Charger or an M5. Back in the day as an example a Torino muscle car Mustang pony car. Chevelle SS Muscle car Camaro pony car. Roadrunner Muscle car. Cuda pony car.
Not a muscle car either
“Muscle cars” are a subcategory of sports cars. Mustangs are legally classified as “sport coupe”.
@@angelgjr1999 No they are not. True meaning of muscle car is mid to large sedan with largest possible motor. Chevelle SS is a muscle car not a sports car. Mustang is a Pony car long hood short deck and lighter than a muscle car.Super Bee was a muscle car Cuda was a Pony car same idea. You shouldn’t be able to pull someone over in an unmarked vehicle. That could be a serious safety issue
"but there is a reason why most jurisdictions in the country ban the use of unmarked cars to do traffic stops"
There is no jurisdiction in the United States where unmarked cars cannot perform traffic stops. They cannot be used primarily for traffic enforcement, but they are still allowed to make stops.
"they are required to display a certain amount of lumens. (they are usually also required to be visible 360°) By placing them behind tinted windows they reduce that between 50 and 90%"
Not if they are TIR lenses. Also, manufacturers do not produce them to meet the lumen requirements, they produced they to drastically exceed those requirements, so even if they were tinted, they still meet requirements.
I believe the opposite approach works better. All cars should be marked & visible for everyone's safety.
Let me explain.

You think it's Tyrone behind you wanting to race and the next thing you know it's Officer Chad pulling you over.
He also wanted his citizenry to see the police cars patrol neighborhoods and be visible rather than seeing a grey Explorer with all the windows tinted so dark you couldn't see the lights or the fact the driver was wearing a uniform.
ways to determine a fake cop from real cop
1: amount of flashing lights (usually around 6-9 leds per side)
2: wigwags (headlights or foglights flash)
3: if you can see well enough, whether the person in the car is in a uniform
4: car (police will usually either use expensive/fast cars, explorers, crown vics, chargers, and the taurus)
5: hubcaps (cop cars usually don't use them)
6: siren (if they're used it's probably a cop, sirens are expensive and annoying to set up)
Illegally generating and extorting money imagine that. Don't never stop for a unmarked car especially in today's country and world it isn't safe at all
So next time on the highway when I see an Altima treating the highway like a demolition derby it could be a cop 😂
I think they should focus more on people texting and driving, left lane campers, people texting and driving while left lane camping.
Cop cars are deterrent.. to speeding. This is entrapment to write high dollar fines that only a sports car can catch.
mfw being a cop is prob the only chance ima have to ever drive one of those cars
@Lawless But if you owned one, you would see it.
The only people worried about this are those who speed and drive aggressively. Where I live and travel, apx 92% of fatalities on 40-61 are due to those speeding where there are crossovers. Another fatal crash just 2 days ago

Let's buy flashy cars and see what people do 🤣
Do ricers pull up next to the unmarked car and rev at them and try to race.
There goes our taxes.
I consider anything American made a possible cop car.
If they are using radar I'll know their cops.
