I've seen the intro riff played differently by Chuck. He goes D string 2-3, A string 2-3, THEN the 5 power chords, then the pinch harmonic. I've never seen it played with the first 4 notes being power chords...
Yeah I was kinda thrown off by that too, seeing Chuck play it that way, and the tabs that way, then seeing this video. The rest of the video is spot on though
(@RemmyRiffs) Wow. It's a good thing nobody cares for, or agrees with YOUR pathetic attempt to (badly incorrectly) correct Alex & Guitar Force on how to play the intro riff for this song. * imagine the shame & embarrassment when you publicly try to show someone up by telling them they were wrong about something and that YOU are ready to CORRECT them, so you do. But it turns out that YOU just look a fool because YOU'RE "correction" and explanation of "how" to do it is even "MORE WRONG" or worse than the original person, whom you publicly TRIED to humiliate! 😢👈🤣 lol...What a dork!: First, you "establish" your credibility & expertise on the subject by detailing the sources of your research to "validate" that your "corrections" are indeed (not) accurate. YOU SAID: You witnessed Chuck play it once & an old guitar tab book is not the same as this lesson. But in YOUR EXPLANATION, you said the first four notes are not chords, but single - string notes each on the D & A strings, (fret 2-3). Thats WRONG, it's actually 3-2 on both strings. You MAY HAVE watched Chuck himself play those first 4 notes without chords before.. so what? I & millions of other people have seen him play it BOTH ways many times over the years that he performed it live. This tab & lesson by Alex is correct, your "corrections" are🗑️🚮 NOT. NEXT, you are incorrect about how many power chords are played after those first 4 notes you questioned & prior to the pinch harmonics note played to end that opening riff. You stated there are 5 power chords played. WRONG, there are 6. I hope you don't try to teach guitar, * Anyway, it is all so minor & trivial. If you like to correct people on something they clearly are sharing a lesson about, BE SURE that they are incorrect (in need of correction), and that YOUR contradictory info IS correct, 🙄 won't you? Thanks...
Great Lesson . I liked in the beginning when you referred to the 3ed fret of the low string 4th fret of the second lowest . I tune to all kinds of things . C lowest G lowest . I figured,DEATH,out in standard E ,so i know, what you call Bb, at the 6th fret, lowest string(Tuned to a whole step down to D) , is Ab, in actuality . The reason I am such a dick about this ,is because for Ear training I believe, it is important to know ,things on the RADIO ,like Hendrix,"All Along the Watch tower", is Played in C# position, but the note is actually C . Creedence Clearwater plays all their songs in D or F . The Allman Bros Ramblin Man, is F in the studio... but E, live . Meat loaf "bat outta hell" is F. On guitar, they probably recorded it E standard, tuned up a half step to F for "Brightness" The lower register sounds less gravely, for the VOCAL . I think about this shit , i don't know maybe i'm a fucking wack job ...i don't know
That part at 19:06 actually just goes... Low E string 3rd fret to 4th fret back and fourth 4 times to Low E string 6th fret to 7th fret back and forth 4 times and then back down to the 3rd and 4th fret doing the same thing as the beginning part and then (this is the part you played close to the right thing...but I've always played that part this way) Low E string 2nd fret power chord and just slide up with that same power chord shape, up a fret to the 1st fret, and back down to 2nd fret low E string power chords and thats it. That's my opinion anyways maybe you hear different
I have a doubt. I´m a beginner and I want to know, when someone says that is playing in drop D, standard D, etc, it means that all the chords must be in that tune? Am I right? The video and the lesson is great, thanks! \m/
I've noticed how a lot of metal guitarists play power chords with the index and pinky fingers. Why not use the ring finger instead of the pinky? It'll leave the pinky free to play accents on those chords.
I think its just a matter of habit tbh. Or, i can see people with smaller hands prefering to use the index-pinky method. I personally use my ring finger, for the same reason you just said
alex how do you get the first riff in the middle section to sound so clean when i play it you could hear the riff but it just sounds dirty how can i clean it up or is it just the gear or just bad settings perhaps? i have a jackson j32 and a line 6 spider
Enrique Rosas I guess it's about muting with the picking hand and also pressing the notes with the fretting hand and lifting the fingers at the right time. It's got nothing to do with the tone of the guitar.
MegaMantra It's not really that confusing, because most metal guitarists refer to strings and fretted notes by their names in E Standard. I see what you mean though.
At the time of writing your post could you actually play the entire song in time with the track? The riffs themselves are easy for a beginner, but they usually have a harder time playing the actual song all the way through in time. If you want a harder song by Death you should try Empty Words.
I'm going to sound like an ass but what do you mean by beginner? Like your first year? Because I highly doubt, I could be wrong, that you could play this song cleanly as a new player. I'm 6 years in and consider this song a good warm up but by no means a breeze when playing to a track.
Holy shit I'm actually doing it right
This is the best thing ever
I'm so happy right now
Brutal than ever
hell ya dude
Dude thanks a lot DEATH my favorite band!!
Dude your Death tutorials are awesome, you should do The Philosopher

Yeah, the official tab for it on ultimate guitar says exactly that. I think the uploader here made a mistake.
doesnt matter that much...it just sounds chunkier with the full power chord.
Yeah I was kinda thrown off by that too, seeing Chuck play it that way, and the tabs that way, then seeing this video. The rest of the video is spot on though

Awsome dude. Great axe the only thing i like of JS. Chuck is the real deal your lesson is also a tribute. Thanks
I've loved Death ever since I heard them freshman year! What kind of picks do you prefer? Also, your guitar tone sounds totally awesome!! 🤘🏻🎸
I got the first 3 riffs down in like 10 minutes. I'm about to tackle the rest of them, thanks for the lesson!
EXCELLENT job on the drum tracks.
Another great lesson!

But there's no backing track, just a drum track. The play through I'm gonna post it really soon and I'll put the link too.
ohhh , well ... thanks too!

+Yeldo Elías Valdés Acevedo No, not necessarily. It refers to the tuning of the guitar, pitch wise.
+GuitarForce.com I made a mistake, I mean strings not chords :P hahaha
+Yeldo Elías Valdés Acevedo Yes, all the strings should be in the right tuning accordingly. Drop D and D standard are 2 different tunings.
+GuitarForce.com Thank you so much
How’s the playing coming along?
Requesting leprosy guitar lesson
Nice video and great lesson! Thank you very much.

How tf are your string not noisey ringing out at 11:45
love your work man ! play some LEFBLANS --from the youtube - that band rocks !
Bring out more videos. Great job🤘
My theory is that this is Diminished Chromatic . I look at this as D Locrian(C Minor) And run the Diminished Whole Half Scale over D as well
👍👍👍 /wow this is great, I would have never figured this out my own. thank you!!!!
Damn man you play everything I want to be able to lol you are one hell of a amazing talented player.

Make sure part of your thumb is lower than the pick. Then strike the string. That's how I learned.

Ты что русский что ли?))
Dude its in D standard stop saying low E when its low D it will confuse people but great tabing.
MegaMantra It's not really that confusing, because most metal guitarists refer to strings and fretted notes by their names in E Standard. I see what you mean though.
Im a beginner and this song is pretty easy :)
Try some TSoP if you want a little harder stuff
