So much truth in your statements. We just moved to The Villages but in my mind I'm already formulating a plan for our eventual return to Vermont to be with family in our sunset years. Also, the medical system here in central Florida has been a nightmare shit show of not being able to find specialists or when we do they don't accept our health insurance. There's so much to love here but some real obstacles as well.

My parents had a great life in Florida for about 18 years. Then it came time to move into assisted living and they went to Philadelphia to be near my sister. They almost came to Phoenix where I was living at the time, but my sister insisted they come to her. Thereafter, whenever she complained about them, I said you wanted them now you got them so you lost your complaint card. I lived in Florida in the early '90s and loved it, but one hurricane drove me out of there, even though I had no damage and didn't lose my job. Luckily my work offered me a job in Arizona and I jumped on the opportunity to move. It was the disruption hurricanes cause that I simply wasn't going to put up with. After my parents left Lakeland and moved to Philly there was one summer when FOUR hurricanes passed over their old community. And this was a looong time ago, I can't imagine what Florida's like now.

It broke my heart but it was as so incredibly expensive!!! All of my expenses doubled in the time I was there. That’s not taking into consideration the astronomical assessments that I had to pay for the condo which I was not expecting at all!! I was told when I bought it that the owner had just paid the 20 year assessment fee. But SURPRISE…. I got hit with assessments for replacement of pool plumbing, fire pump, replacement, a new roof and renovation of the poolside bathroom. This was so expensive!!! I’ll never buy a condo again!!! My parents and dad's parents were snowbirds to Central Florida. Sebring was like a second home for me. I always dreamed of retiring to the same area. That has changed in the past five years. As much as i loved the overall weather and things to do, now, I have no desire to move there. We are staying put in the Northeast unless we find someplace convenient to the grandkids, reasonable costs, and plenty of things to do.

Hi - Appreciate this video - I live in The Villages. Resale inventory has increased for sure, but new home sales in the Eastport area are selling briskly, with view lots selling within hours of going on the market. I’ve been here over two years now and absolutely love it. I moved here from beautiful Colorado, but as an early 60s retiree, and I needed to live someplace that is super active. The people are very friendly, I love my house, homeowners insurance is very reasonable compared to the rest of Florida, and we are in the best location to escape the harsh effects of hurricanes. I know this place isn’t for everyone, but for me and my friends, we love it here.

Winters were hard for my husband cleaning the snow from our property and cars, he’s a disabled veteran. An ax a disabled veteran we don’t pay property taxes and VA hospital is a great. Good advise. The pandemic, that conjured up a live now as there may be no tomorrow mentality, and lower interest rates suckered a lot of people to bid up and buy. That screwed up a lot of the locals who have to move or live in their cars and themselves as they will end up underwater. Florida has always had an amplified boom to bust economy. We lived in Sarasota in 2010, post crash, and a few people desperately asked me if I wanted to buy their condo.

It took well over an hour to drive from Punta Gorda to a decent public beach. Wall to wall traffic. Walgreens and Walmarts every few blocks. Yeah, we are a two minute walk to Grand Traverse Bay. Winter is rough, but we could be snowbirds if we wanted to do it. We don’t. Why fight the massive crowds?

Even quicker in the car.

When seniors relocate after retirement they often overlook their future need for available and quality medical care. They may be pretty healthy when they first retire and see their retirement years as an extended vacation somewhere enjoyable that also allows them to stretch their retirement dollars. It’s sounds like Florida’s health care system is a nightmare and that retirees are being priced out of the state by the rising costs of everything. It makes sense that so many Florida seniors are moving elsewhere.

That is pretty bad if they can not read the reports before I had it. The prices on the homes are way too high and I hate to say they have no beauty or charm like they used to. Don't like living on top of the other house. Insurance is way too high. Too many charges HOA and CDD that one is a joke. It is way cheaper to stay where I am than New York by New York City. The prices on the homes are not worth it, way too high! Florida used to be for the seniors not no more...That should be the cheapest state to live sicne you have no clue if you are going to have a home or not with the hurricanes. Was going to go back two years ago but everytime I see the hurricane on TV that changes my mind and the prices of the homes. After reading the comments, I feel like I made the right choice. Even though there's a glut of inventory, don't forget the panic buying of a couple of years ago. People were buying sight unseen and overbidding, it tightened available inventory and spiked prices. Perhaps what we're seeing is the flip side of that frenzy as the market normalizes? Regardless of the number of the current exodus, isn't the population still growing? Florida has a lot to offer, but it's not for everyone, I would still expect a lot of transplants to come down and discover it's not the paradise they thought it would be and leave in search of greener pastures.

Cape Coral here too, 2600 a month for a 3 bed,2 bath, no pool…. Traffic is frustrating, groceries are absolutely out of control, no parking at the beaches and beer is 5.50 a bottle on the weeknights and weekends. Is that normal?
