Calibration is typically done at the end of the cable you will be using. That way you are calibrated to the end of the cable you’ll use to attach to the DUT and have a meaningful THRU. Calibration directly to Port 1, then introducing a cable creates a measurement error into the calibration.
Thanks-you so much for the informative content. Your assistance was spot on, and near infinitely more useful than the included "structure map" LOL. Please don't misinterpret my tongue-in-check bard about the included documentation; The nanoVNA product line is clearly advertised as a "DIY" project, so the community to which you're contributing is greatly valued and appreciated. Again thank-you for the help.
I just got my NanoVNA H4 in today and man you made the calibration so easy for me. You explained everything easily and the process was smooth. I can't wait to check out your other vids and see what else I can learn. Thanks for your video! 73 from KM4MMP.
Thanks for this! I found that there's an update so I followed you again to update my VNA. Oddly it didn't work. What I found was that I had to clear the current configuration/reset the VNA then run the upgrade again. Now .29 is installed and working correctly. Again, thanks!
One quick note. If your going to use two cables for your measurement, then use both cables (coupled with barrel connector)) for the "thru" calibration step..
Between you previous video (NanoVNA H4 Firmware Upgrade) and this one, I'm ready to go. Great video. Easy to follow along step-by-step instructions No for an antenna testing party :) 73
Question: These Nano VNAs vary, in price, from $40-$50, to some in the $120-$140 range, up to the "Mini-1300," for $180. As far as I can tell, they all seem to have similar performance. The more expensive ones have larger displays, but that's about the only difference I can find. They all have a sweep function, measure R & jX, produce Smith charts, & measure VSWR. Frequency ranges are similar, and more than what I need (2m & 70cm). So, how is the $180 one better than the $40 model?
Great Video. I would like to see more on the NanoVNA. I had heard that a person should calibrate each frequency one is using. What are your thoughts? 😁
Excellent walk-through! BTW, there is an R in dielectric (sounds like die-electric) - sorry, not being mean, I'm just one of those nit-pickin' goobers.
Hi Keath, to get your saved settings you should be able to go to Recall tab and have them show up. In an upcoming video you will see that when I tune an EFHW wire. Manual is extensive as this little device can do a lot! Thank you for watching.
It's dielectric not dialectic. I'm not a vernacular nazi normally, but considering you sound like an intelligent person I thought I should say something so in the future people do not underestimate your intelligence.
Hey Wally sorry for delay. If it is frozen then the case may be touching the screen due to faulty extrusion in manufacturing. Try to loosen the screws and it should work :)
Great Video! Got a H4 still sitting in the box. Been so busy studying for Extra I haven't had time to play with it. Passed the Extra exam tonight and when I came home this video was waiting for me! I'll be watching for updates. K5WFD/AE ch
Congratulations on passing your Extra exam! I too am studying in the little spare time I have for the Extra as well. I am also studying morse code so i can add CW to my comms skill box. Thank you for watching and 73, Matt N3VAN
Thank you Matt for providing some directions on how to calibrate it. Greetings from Brazil. 73 from PY2QA 👏👏
This is absolutely the BEST setup tutorial I've come across.
👍
Agreed

Out frigging standing, exactly what I needed and easy to follow, great job 👍

Thank for a cogent presentation! Thanks too for pointing out the dielectric as a way of distinguishing the calibration ccps
You are very welcome! Thank you for watching.
Excellent - I was wondering how to set mine up and now I know. Many thanks.

The word you want is "dielectRic" - note the R. There is a word "diAlectic, but it means something entirely different. Thanks for the great video.
Hahaha I know my mistake over the years I picked up the "dialectic" term from a family member.
Awesome video, thank you! I have been trying to figure out, on my own, how to change the way the nano displays swr.
Excellent video Matt, thank you for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it!

Good catch! Yes I was thinking of dialectic like the dialectic grease you put on spark plugs, etc.
@@n3vanradio That's also with an r. 😟
Excelente (mucho no me funcionaron) Este es 100% Efectivo.
How do you delete or over write a saved space. Can't figure out how. Thank you.
great video thank you!
Excellent explanation. Thank you
Glad it was helpful for you. Thanks!
Can the Firmware be updated?
nice
S eleven ....huh? Isn't it port 1 to 1 ... meaning reflectance?
How do I reset to default?
Is not the open cap's purpose, to shield the open port?
Correct!
TY
You are welcome!
if isave how do i get back to what i saved just got the unti and the manual is like 80 pages

Thanks! It was how I always used to say it when I was working on my own cars with my father. But thank you for the correction :)
Mine got frozen 🥶 and it’s not moving 😩
Oh no! Frozen during or after the setup and calibration or the wheel that sometimes locks up?
@@n3vanradio 1st time use tho. I turn it on then I was about to do the calibration and got frozen 🥶.

S 1 1, S 2 1 is the proper terminology,
NOT S Eleven and S Twenty One
Why do you keep saying dielectic?
Im sorry. It was a mistake on my part :)
