I couldn't get DFUsedemo to see my H4, so tried STM32CubeProgrammer which would, then the NanoVNA would do anything! Nothing I did would unbrick my H4....then watching your video yet once again, I decided to delete the STMbootloader that appeared under the "extra" Universal Serial Bus controllers in device manager (hey I bricked the Nano, why not brick my desktop computer, LOL). When I went back to the DFUsedemo, it now saw the H4 in DFU mode and in the device manager I again got an additional Universal Serial Bus controller that now had a device in DFU mode! Then I was able to update to dislords 1.2.29 firmware via you instructions and it began working again! Thanks soooo much for the time you took to put this together. W4FLI

Great VIDEO, except for that one little step.... lol
Thank you so much for this, i used it to update my old one which seems to have fixed it. I also replaced both of the sma connectors because they were getting loose. Just some advice if you do replace the connectors, use some heavy sidecutters or nippers to chop them up (carefully not to damage the board) first. Its much easier to desolder the 5 pins individually than dump a ton of heat and pull them all at once
You are very welcome. Glad I coul help you update your old NanoVNA and thank you for the information on replacing a damaged connector. I hope it doesn't happen soon to mine but I do keep it in my comms bag.
Couldn't see the unit in Dfuse like you showed in Device Manager it was in the USB device section but the driver installed was the latest anyway so I tried the STM32cube software shown in your video instead and that worked but with the .bin file instead of the .dfu. Thanks for the links to the upgrades and the hints to overcome the driver hiccough 👍

Thanks for this instructions. It made it really easy. One question though to people that have upgraded to this latest v1.2.20 I notice that setting the Reference Level through menu does not work right (or I am doing something wrong). If I choose the expected Reference of about 0dB or something similar I get most strange big values it sets the Reference level to, like 100. The Scale/Div also messes up, sometimes goes to 0. Has anyone else experienced the same issue. On the other hand, setting the Reference level by touching most left up or most left down changes the reference level by one Scale/Div at the time. .... I will search the web for more clues..
@n3vanradio Hi. This was a user error. I was mistaken Ref Position for Ref Level. I have learned that Ref Position function is to put the 0dB line to one of the 8 horizontal grid lines. I was glad that it was my own mistake and not a malfunction. I have understood that the newest beta version would have actual Ref Level, even top and bottom settings possibilities.
Thanks for the video and glad I watched until the end. The upgrade went smoothly but it looks like you have the same issue that I did which is a huge spur just above 300MHz. I fiddled with the with the expert settings to knock it down. Any thoughts on how you may have addressed it?
Went through the process and it completed fine however, when I disconnect and power the VNA on again, I no longer have a display, just a black screen. This is the SeeSii branded H4. Is it possible this needs a different file? It was using 1.2,14 like your was before I attempted the update.
So, is there a bootstrap that has to be installed before the Defuse update will work? My NanoVna-H4 seems to be stuck in DFU. The software evidently loaded and uploaded as per the video. It just does not exit DFU. I tried the software button, no joy. The part I did not mention is that the touch screen stopped working and the vendor replaced the unit. Hi. Very clear instructions, but I'm unable to get past the "Choose" file point in the procedure. Even though I know I am clicking on the correct NanoVNA.H4.v1.2.29.dfu file, I keep getting a "This file doesn't have a correct format" error. What is causing this and how do I get around it?
Unfortunately mine does not come back up. Stays black just like it did when in DFU mode though it isn't. I even plugged it in and the software didn't recognize but I redid the start with the jog button pushed and the software did recognize it so it was not stuck in DFU mode. Two possibilities I think. Mine has SeeSii up in the top right corner and perhaps that brand has some incompatibility though the software and versions matched exactly. Another is that I found two DFU files that could be downloaded at the link and did not know which one. So weird. The link to the comment that showed up in my email went to a generic page. I know I didn't delete it, havent deleted anyones comment to date but here was your original question. "J Shepherd Just the video I was looking for. I have a question though, I bought a nanovna H4 new in May of 2021 and Ive never updated the firmware. The version on it now says version 0.5.0 Feb 21 2020 and it says Kernel 5.1.0. Full pic of the version screen is here ibb.co/4ZjNb1g Is it ok to use the one you used on this video on mine or are there other upgrade in between my original and the newest that I have to do before trying this version on your video?? Ok. What I was saying is Hugen is one of the contributors to the Nanovna project on Github and he mentions to "Update to DiSlord version 1.2.14 code for better and faster display." on his Github page here: github.com/hugen79/NanoVNA-H I would follow is recommendation but remember to use your platform NANOVNA_STM32_F303 (which is in the picture you gave) to get the right firmware file.

🙄It is GENUINE! Is NOT a COPY, is NOT a CLONE is NOT a FAKE! Is just made by ZeenKo! (4.3_MS means it's have MS5351(new) vs Si5351(old) watch to firmware update!)
well I asked a question and part of the answer showed up in my notifications but i cant read the rest of your answer and now my question has disappeared from the comments on this video
Very odd as i dont see it either. I even thumbed up the comment and replied. Let me check on my end.
@@n3vanradio i just wanted to read the entire answer...lol...it stopped at "I would follow" and thats it
So weird. The link to the comment that showed up in my email went to a generic page. I know I didn't delete it, havent deleted anyones comment to date but here was your original question.

Just the video I was looking for. "
Did you receive my response?
Ok. What I was saying is Hugen is one of the contributors to the Nanovna project on Github and he mentions to "Update to DiSlord version 1.2.14 code for better and faster display." on his Github page here: github.com/hugen79/NanoVNA-H
I would follow is recommendation but remember to use your platform NANOVNA_STM32_F303 (which is in the picture you gave) to get the right firmware file.
@@n3vanradio guess ill leave it alone cause you lost me using the same platform cause I have no idea what you are talking about...i am stupid when it comes to github unless i have a video to watch about it
I went to the link u posted and clicked the NANOVNA_STM32_F303 folder and its got all kinds of stuff in it so I have no idea how to even do it
ok but WHY upgrade it? any real useful purpose to do so?
Updating the firmware can resolve potential issues a user is having as well as enhance the accuracy of the VNA.
man this takes a bit going on 20minutes
thank you very much. perfect video, easy to follow.
You are very welcome. Glad it helped!
