Like Damon said later in the series, “if your going to be bad, be bad with purpose. Otherwise your just not worth forgiving”. Yeah he did a lot of bad things but most of them was for a reason and he didn’t mind who hated him because he got the dirty work done. And yes it was sad but bree told lexis boyfriend where Damon was if Elena wasn’t there Damon would be dead, so she deserved it.
