As someone who struggles with mental health, I can't count the times I've fantasized of drifting away in the ocean. The waves taking my suffering, drifting to peace finally. But I fight and I'm here today, just amazing others understand. But we can overcome our darkness.
A know where your coming from julianna been there plenty times myself in a dark place if a didn't have kids god knows where a would be but props to you that you are kicking ass and being here
If anyone's confused about this video, the black water seeping from her skin possibly represents her depression and the person mopping it up represents her friends and family. The person mopping disappears when she's happy and with the guy because they think she's beat her depression, but at the end when the black water is everywhere it is too much for her to take
Thank you so much. Really was having a tough time figuring out the music video. It's been like two years and I still didn't get it, but such an amazing song. I find it haunting but in a beautiful way.
Saddens me, before the comments about any shows, this comment section was filled with beautiful inspiring personal stories about how everyone cope with grief. Was a very beautiful place filled with hope and love.
Listened to this song on repeat when I was diagnosed with a brain tumor 6 years ago. And just like the song says, I’m not giving up just giving in, which means accepting the cards I was dealt and fighting to live.
My son just died. My heart hurts, somehow this song randomly appeared on my RUclips scroll. I can’t say what made me select it, I have never heard it or heard of the artist before. This song struck me to my very soul. It is to me both wonderful and terrible for the wound that I carry. I will be putting together a play list, and need to find more like this.
I’m sorry for your loss. In my darkest times, Florence’s music comforted my soul. I’ve never been through what you’ve been through but I hope you can comfort in her music too. Sending love. X
I feel like this song is about finding absolution and forgiveness after committing suicide, because in a lot of religions, suicide is considered a sin. Hence why she calls herself a sinner throughout the song and there’s so much religious imagery in the lyrics. Florence Welch’s grandmother had bipolar disorder and committed suicide and that impacted the family very deeply. Florence wrote the song Falling about that experience. And I wonder if this one was also inspired by that. Either way, it gave me a lot of comfort at a time in my life when I was in that place myself, thank you so much for making the kind of music you make.
Interesting, thanks for the backstory. I plan to end my own life like that one day. Not anytime soon, but I'm not going to end up in a hospice I can tell you that much.
ptanyuh I can understand the sentiment since I’ve been there myself. I will point out it was because of chronic depression in my case and that I got the treatment I needed and am okay now. May I ask how old you are? Since you’re thinking along these lines
I have survived multiple suicide attempts. Multiple overdoses, strangle, slit wrists... not a good time. I like to think that my mind is no longer broken...just fractured. It stays with you, forever. Childhood was not good to me. Young adulthood not much better. This song does call to mind the feeling of letting go of the pain in an attempt to stop it all. Every time I woke up was surprising. But I figure maybe there is a reason why I'm still here so I'm willing to wait it out and see. This song doesn't really remind me of dying. It reminds me of living. Of the receding of vision and consciousness and then the moment of clarity when you give in to life. I'm glad now that I'm still here and that I've found beauty and meaning in the darkness of life. It's good to visit the dark recesses of the mind but the trick is not to linger. I hope for more than redemption. Only time will tell. But I don't believe that a person who's had such pain and torment should be punished for having such traumatic experiences that lead us to wanting to be released from it. I don't think we're doomed. I think we're still loved and still redeemable. I don't believe that God ever really gives up on us because he gives us those odd signs when we're too weak to carry on any longer. We just have to be paying attention.
This song reminds me of what it’s like to struggle with mental health, and self-sabotaging behaviors. This song to me, represents the fear of abandonment, yet pushing everyone away. This is the first time I ever cried to this song, and I’ve been listening to it ever since it first came out.
Did you know that Florence wrote this song while badly hung over? She was in a dark place in her life then. She didn't want to re-visit the song live for 10 years, because it made her so sad. She began singing it live again in 2023.
Delena brought me here..but lets appreciate Florence. This song is so difficult that i have heard no one pull it off perfectly. Thanks TVD for giving me Florence ❤️
the first time I heard it was on tvd and I was like.. I have to find out what this song is called it's just a basic instinct when I hear such an amazing song
This got to be one of the most sensitive, heartfelt, poetic and soul touching lyrics ever written. And a melody inspired by heavens. Mrs. Welch it's a force of the nature, a phenomena. Hardly a song touchs me so deeply, the voice is fierce and daunting in the most positive way, it is aimed to your soul.
My cousin was only 22 when he left this world and the last time I seen him in person was around my 16th birthday he told me how Florence impacted his life when he was dealing with addictions and emotional struggles. He found comfort listening to her and one of his favourite songs was "Never Let Me Go". He wanted to be a positive impact for so many people but didn't get the chance to be his authentic self, because he was turned away by people he cared for. Everyday I wish I could be with him again and let him know how much he meant to me and how much he inspired me to be myself. He was one of the most accepting people i knew, and helped me find acceptance of my sexuality and who i am as a person. I wouldn't be who I am today if it wasn't for him. This was one of the songs they played at his funeral. I had to do my high school exams and couldn't attend. But in June 2018 i was finally able to visit where he was resting. When i found "High on Hope" i played it while thinking of him and it was one of the most moving things i ever experienced. Thank you Florence for sharing your art with the world. RIP Mitchell Austin Pinnell 1/9/1992 --- 5/24/2014 🌈❤️🧡💛💚💙💜⚰️🐘
So sorry for your loss....I'm currently experiencing a sister who sounds very similar to your cousin.... Though it is me that flocks to Florence for meaning and spirituality... My sister's addiction scares me and I don't know why but this song and many others by her brings me the right emotions I need in the moment. And reading your words tonight... Was meant to be. May you and your cousin have peace.💟
I remember listening to this song at 13.. plotting my escape from my severely abusive mother. It strikes me inside with such chills to this day. This song represents the pain I felt.. the pain so deep it felt so liberating.
This song describes heaven, literally, for a person who is not prepared for this cruel world. The arms of the ocean delivered me… I am not giving up, I am just giving in.
Me in teenager and still listening in my 20s it's weird how I'm still in this earth when this was one I was listening in the night I thought ill be gone lol
“Because in the end, when you lose somebody, every candle, every prayer is not going to make up for the fact that the only thing you have left is a hole in your life where that somebody that you cared about used to be.”
@@tracker569 Tracker, Just random CHANCE that I’m here tonight with my SOUL SCREAMING from the PAIN of losing the love of my Life and SUDDENLY there are YOUR words and you UNDERSTAND that all the EMPTY reassurances and platitudes about “healing” don’t mean a THING!! WHOLE PIECES OF ME are just GONE and I’ll NEVER get them, or that kind of Love, back EVER. But to know someone FEELS what I feel is something to hold on to, so THANK you Tracker and I wish you some small measure of Mercy in healing your Emptiness Friend ❤️🩹
Looking up from underneath Fractured moonlight on the sea Reflections still look the same to me As before I went under And it's peaceful in the deep Cathedral where you cannot breathe No need to pray, no need to speak Now I am under all And it's breaking over me A thousand miles down to the sea bed Found the place to rest my head Never let me go Never let me go Never let me go Never let me go And the arms of the ocean are carrying me And all this devotion was rushing out of me And the crashes are heaven for a sinner like me But the arms of the ocean delivered me Though the pressure's hard to take It's the only way I can escape It seems a heavy choice to make And now I am under all And it's breaking over me A thousand miles down to the sea bed Found the place to rest my head Never let me go Never let me go Never let me go Never let me go And the arms of the ocean are carrying me And all this devotion was rushing out of me And the crashes are heaven for a sinner like me But the arms of the ocean delivered me And it's over And I'm going under But I'm not giving up I'm just giving in I'm slipping underneath So cold and so sweet And the arms of the ocean so sweet and so cold And all this devotion I never knew at all And the crashes are heaven for a sinner released And the arms of the ocean delivered me Never let me go Never let me go Never let me go Never let me go Deliver me Never let me go Never let me go Never let me go Never let me go Deliver me Never let me go Never let me go Never let me go Never let me go Deliver me Never let me go Never let me go Never let me go Never let me go And it's over (Never let me go, Never let me go) And I'm going under (Never let me go, Never let me go) But I'm not giving up (Never let me go, Never let me go) I'm just giving in (Never let me go, Never let me go) I'm slipping underneath (Never let me go, Never let me go) So cold and so sweet (Never let me go, Never let me go)
This song speaks to me of accepting the dark parts of yourself. To make peace with the darkness. To give in and stop fighting against it because it is a part of who you are as a whole.
Having suffered with my own mental health struggles there are some songs that hit your right there and resonate enough to drive you to tears … this is one of those songs 🥺
[Verse 1] Looking up from underneath Fractured moonlight on the sea Reflections still look the same to me As before I went under And it's peaceful in the deep Cathedral where you cannot breathe No need to pray, no need to speak Now I am under all [Pre-Chorus] And it's breaking over me A thousand miles down to the sea bed Found the place to rest my head Never let me go, never let me go Never let me go, never let me go [Chorus] And the arms of the ocean are carrying me And all this devotion was rushing out of me And the crashes are heaven, for a sinner like me But the arms of the ocean delivered me [Verse 2] Though the pressure's hard to take It's the only way I can escape It seems a heavy choice to make And now I am under, oh [Pre-Chorus] And it's breaking over me A thousand miles down to the sea bed Found the place to rest my head Never let me go, never let me go Never let me go, never let me go [Chorus] And the arms of the ocean are carrying me And all this devotion was rushing out of me And the crashes are heaven, for a sinner like me But the arms of the ocean delivered me [Bridge] And it's over and I'm going under But I'm not giving up, I'm just giving in I'm slipping underneath So cold and so sweet And the arms of the ocean so sweet and so cold And all this devotion I never knew at all And the crashes are heaven for a sinner released And the arms of the ocean delivered me [Outro] Never let me go, never let me go Never let me go, never let me go Delivered me Never let me go, never let me go Never let me go, never let me go Delivered me Never let me go, never let me go Never let me go, never let me go Delivered me Never let me go, never let me go Never let me go, never let me go And it's over and I'm going under But I'm not giving up, I'm just giving in I'm slipping underneath So cold and so sweet
Beautiful ♡ Just transposed onto piano/keyboard, and your shared lyrics made it a breeze. Thank you so much, my friend :) Have a blessed & wonderful week. Xx
I read somewhere that it's suppose to be about a religious girl who love the ocean and falls in love with a sailor. But one day he goes out to sea and never returns so the girl drowns herself in the ocean.
does everyone agree its a suicide song? is that acknowledged somewhere? i didnt see it that way. i dont mind being 'wrong' about this. . . . i like it and i did a cover of it w vocal + keyboard, if u r interested
I'm happy to see that the comment section is still alive. Though most of the comments is about Vampire Diaries, back on the old days when this song was released we were just amazed how they can make a song about a romance between a guy and a mop.
It's impressive that, depending how your life is now, you can have two types of interpretations about this song: Never let me go may talk about Love or is referring to suicide. Florence is Brilliant.
This song reminds me of a very dark time in my life. I lived by the coast at the time and was deeply depressed. I often thought about walking into the sea and letting it take me away.
Looking up from underneath Fractured moonlight on the sea Reflections still look the same to me As before I went under And it's peaceful in the deep 'Cause either way you cannot breathe No need to pray, no need to speak Now I am under Oh, and it's breaking over me A thousand miles out to the sea bed Found the place to rest my head (Never let me go, never let me go Never let me go, never let me go) And the arms of the ocean are carrying me And all this devotion was rushing over me And the questions I have for a sinner like me But the arms of the ocean deliver me Though the pressure's hard to take It's the only way I can escape It seems a heavy choice to make But now I am under, oh And it's breaking over me A thousand miles down to the sea bed I found the place to rest my head (Never let me go, never let me go Never let me go, never let me go) And the arms of the ocean are carrying me (So cold and so sweet) And all this devotion was rushing out of me And the questions I have for a sinner like me But the arms of the ocean deliver me And it's over and I'm going under But I'm not giving up I'm just giving in Oh, slipping underneath So cold and so sweet In the arms of the ocean, so sweet and so cold And all this devotion, well, I never knew at all And the questions I have for a sinner released In the arms of the ocean deliver me (Never let me go, never let me go Never let me go, never let me go) Deliver me (Never let me go, never let me go Never let me go, never let me go) Never let me go, never let me go) Deliver me (Never let me go, never let me go) Never let me go, never let me go) Deliver me Never let me go, never let me go And it's over I'm going under But I'm not giving up I'm just giving in Ah, slipping underneath Wooh, so cold, but so sweet
The first time I heard this song, I was 14 or so. Mental illness had started stealing over my life and there was very little light. This song somehow both made me feel understood in my darkness and brought a great sense of euphoria. Here I am again in my mid 20s, still holding so much gratitude and reverence for Florence. Thank you FATM for helping me embrace all stages of my life with grace and totality.
Not to be critical or argumentative, but how can you have just one favorite? There is such a diversity of greatness in her music. I can't even pick my favorite 10 songs of hers :)
Nathan Robertson To be honest, I don't listen to much of her music. This is the one song that I've heard that really got my attention. :) Which ones are your favorites?
listen to no light no light, breaking down, queen of peace, shake it out, delilah, seven devils, third eye and the cover of addicted to love. these are the best i think
9 years later, I'm watching TVD with my daughters. At the beginning I liked Stefan & Elena. Later, it was impossible not to love Delena!! Excellent song for their first kiss 💋.
sorry for offering unsolicited advice but while i do think it's wonderful that you're sharing a show that's close to you w your daughters, please educate them about the unhealthy dynamics in those relationships. you don't want them to grow up idealizing that.
I’ve been listening to this song since I was 3 (in 2012 Ik I’m young lol) but when I watched tvd I was a delena fan and I could just tell they would get together yk and I heard this song and I knew I was destined to be a Delena fan
I can't help but miss the lungs and ceremonials era, where I admire how she's developed in her artistic meaning through her songs in HBHBHB, I always experience such a euphoric feeling when listening to her older songs, especially ceremonials, like they could all just swallow you up
That's what Florence has always been to me. This presence and aura which she embodies through her music feels as if it could swallow up my existence, my world, and my soul. More than swallowing me whole I feel as if the music demands that I entirely capitulate.
I felt the same way but HBHBHB takes longer to appreciate. Also check out her recently released Conductor, As Far As I Could Get, Pure feeling, Hiding, Too Much Is Never Enough, and I Will Be. It like she released an entire extra album with these songs.
She performed this live at her DC show, and I'm pretty sure I had an out of body experience there on the floor. It's such an amazing song and her vocals.
There are some songs that are so magical, that when you hear them, you feel extremely vulnerable. I always break into tears whenever I listen to this one and oddly relate so much with it. Hence, I try to avoid listening to them. The vulnerability I feel is hurtful. 7 years ago I cried, when I first heard this song. And today, I'm typing this while crying.
The song is 8 years old, i had my heart broken into 1000 pieces 8 years ago, i had to drive 800 km home alone, and Florences songs were on the radio, i cried and i cried, drove, all the way, and listended to her songs. 8 years later it still brings back memories, of a great love story with unhappy ending, but there is silver lining- shortly after that i met the sweetest man who is my husband now. And Florences music is still with me.
This was the first song I've ever from them, but I don't remember why I used to think I didn't liked it so I always skipped it, later I began to hear more from them because of Shake it out, then I started to hear all of their songs skipping this one, last week I was doing homework when all the sudden this song came on, I didn't skip it just because I was concentrated ( I wasn't paying attention to any songs at all), but as soon as the chorus came my attention was drawn into the song completely, I literally stopped just to pay attention to the song and ended up almost in tears from how much I loved it (that or I was really sick of doing homework that I loved how this song relieved me), now I'm hearing it almost everyday and for now it is my favorite song. Florence could be one of the best singers ever, so glad she is getting the recognition she deserves.

small error, in the beginning she sings "cathedral where you cannot breathe" it's my favorite line, it's so beautiful I think everyone deserves to hear it :)
My sister passed away 5 months ago. 5 days before she passed we were watching a TV program together in which this song was played. I remember the moment so vividly as the last moment of us as sisters watching TV together late at night as we had done as kids. Love this song so much, in all ways possible it resonates so sadly yet so beautifully. Some days it feels like I'm drowning in grief, other days I let the feelings ebb and flow like the ocean, other days I celebrate life.
I'm so sorry for your loss. You've described grief perfectly, or at least it's how it was for me a couple of decades ago when my dad passed. I'm glad you have that last memory with your sister :)
Beautiful. Sorry for your loss. I lost my older sister almost a year ago now, grief is weird and sudden. We'll be fine and a certain sound or smell and we just break down 💞 Grieving with you love, stay strong I know they want us to be
I'm so sorry for your devastating loss. ❤🙏🌹 I too have a sister, my baby sister, who I helped raise and adore. Due to a car accident, we almost lost her when she was only 7-8 yrs old. I was in HS and my world nearly ended. Although we've long been adults, still now, I would be beyond bereft and devastated if anything happened to her. I also lost my Grams, who truly was my very best friend in the world. You've perfectly described and encapsulated how grief feels. It sucks at and pulls us down into a bottomless abyss, and adds weight to keep you down on most days. Then once in a while, we hear or re-listen to beautiful bittersweet songs, same with movies/shows/pictures. Then we're lucky enough to be granted a small reprieve from all of that absolute f*cking (please forgive my language, but it's only way to truly honestly describe it) pain and sorrow, and truly begin to heal. Though we most likely never ever recover, we adapt, we must carry on. And through those reprieves, as you so wonderfully put it, we remember and regain our ability to celebrate the lives of our loved ones again, by trying to no longer allow grief to control us. Someone else in this thread said that our loved ones want us to be strong. These beautiful memories shared remind us that we are so much stronger than any of us ever thought we were capable of being.❤️💙 Thank you for sharing your special sacred memories of your lovely beloved sister.❤ Sharing our loving rememberances is how we keep our beloved loved one's alive. I hope we never stop, so that they always and forever may live on.💛🙏🌹 Sophie and others on this thread, I apologize for such a long post, I just really wanted to express my sincere condolences to you and let you know that I see you, send you a virtual hug, my thoughts, and prayers. Please hang in there, sweetheart ❤🙏🌹🩷 As HRH Queen Elizabeth II, may she RIP, has ever so eloquently, yet brutally honestly said, "Grief is the price we pay for love." ❤️💔🩷 And truer words have never rang more true.

Personally one of my favourite songs not because of some TV show, but cause this song resonated with my entire being and the events which unfolded in my life during my childhood to late teen stages. I would never give up, but I nearly gave in to the darkness that has swallowed me whole. Love you Florence Welch! 🖤
Words can not describe this song, there's something mistical, something more big than me, something religious but not exactly religious, it's like if my faith and hope, makes me want to believe in this big catheral of lyrics, and the sounds and voice of Florence, takes me to involve more spiritual, only when I heard this song, I feel like that
There is always something mystical in the world. Whether it be sight or sound, believe in the magic, believe me it’s better than watching television. Listen to the stories of the old and take joy in watching the young create their own stories.

My mother passed away in 2014 at the age of 65 from Hep C. I would visit her in the hospice center everyday for weeks. This song made me think of what she was going through. What it may feel like to move on through this life into the after life. She was there for so long the nurses advised me to talk to her; tell her that it was ok to go. Hardest thing I did. She was unable to speak or move by that point, but she listened. The next morning I got the call. Still to this day I cannot listen to this song without mourning her loss all over again. I will never let her go. I know she never gave up, but had to give in. I love you momma RIP. 🙏🌹❤️🖤
"Hello! My name’s Angie and my dream is to be a Singer, i know is a lot to ask but could you please check out some videos of me singing on my channel? Please, I’ll be grateful. "
This song brought me through some of the hardest times in my life, i feel like somone understands my feelings when I here this. but of course everyone is to busy gushing over vampires to actually here what the song is really saying.
Derpy PotatoFox 👍🏻 That's the power of a great song! So sad that today, a great song has zero meaning unless they hear it in a movie or see it in a meme!
You know what I need? A Florence song with Jamie Campbell Bower... it could even be a special version of this one... I just thing it would be the best thing ever. 🖤
There's just something so spiritual that connects me to this song. It speaks to me on a spiritual level I didn't even know I had. It's simply breathtaking and outstanding. Thank you Florence❤️
This was my favorite Florence + The Machine song when I first started listening to them, but I never watched the video. Then I became obsessed with their album Ceremonials (and still am, I adore it), while I was reading The Mortal Instruments and also obsessing over that completely. AND NOW I FIND OUT THAT JAMIE CAMPBELL FRIGGIN BOWER IS IN THE MUSIC VIDEO FOR THIS??? I think I'm gonna die. A perfect combination, in my opinion. I love Florence, I love Jamie, I love the band, love the song, love the video, the mood... I love it ALL!
I get depressed easily and this song helps me get through it all. A good cry, scream, yell, kicking things punching the air. Until I feel numb and just pure emptiness but just the chaotic bittersweet rhythms and chimes and Florence vigil voice igniting the reset button. So here's to her.. for keeping me alive this far and continue on.. ✌n❤️
@Destiny Moles hi thanks for concerning 😁 I'm good! I've focus my energy on things I want to change and just live life hope you are doing good as well during these hard times around the world.. ✌️n❤️
My son was born still on 2019 and I found this song when searching somewhat aimlessly for something to play at his funeral. I didn't want to go to his funeral, I don't want to carry on loving without him. Then this song played, and I lay on the floor and sobbed, and then played it again, and again. This song saved me, and allowed me to find a way through grief. I played it at his funeral and anytime I miss him I return to it. I hope that Florence knows the impact she has, it is beyond words. She gave me something special that day, understanding, a place for pain, and hope. And she gave my other children their mother back. Forever in debt.
Speechless. You are the hell out of a woman, girl. Your story is extraordinary ❤️ Thank you for sharing it and being so brave ❤️ I'm sending my biggest support and love to you and your family ❤️ Your Children must feel proud of his Mother, especially your Guardian Angel ❤️ Also, my deepest condolences to all of you 🥺❤️ God bless you ❤️🥺😘
I was introduced to this song by a documentary called Mission Blue and I've never seen any form of media more fitting for this song than Mission Blue. If anyone wants to watch it's about Sylvia Earle's - an oceanographer and quite possibly one of the greatest women alive - mission to save the ocean, and how she discovered the ocean through her own eyes ever since she was young. The documentary also shows us concrete evidence of how the Earth is changing and what's happening down under. Just because it looks absolutely beautiful from the surface, doesn't mean it's thriving down below. Our earth is dying and the oceans are one of the first to take the hits. If we take good enough care of the earth such as picking up your trash and segregating it properly and practicing good eco tourism, our oceans wouldn't have to suffer like this. Corals are dying, marine biodiversity is getting weaker and weaker, and fish populations are declining. It's time we do something for the ocean instead of just using it for the aesthetics.
I was just watching a young lady singing this in remembrance of her father who passed away from an accident. Such beauty. Watching her sing this and holding it together. The voice. 2022. Thankyou. 🥰😇💜

As someone who struggles with mental health, I can't count the times I've fantasized of drifting away in the ocean. The waves taking my suffering, drifting to peace finally. But I fight and I'm here today, just amazing others understand. But we can overcome our darkness.
Still here
A know where your coming from julianna been there plenty times myself in a dark place if a didn't have kids god knows where a would be but props to you that you are kicking ass and being here
We are drowning together, its dark, but your not alone.
Thank you for your message. It helps to know that I am not alone. It was brave of you to share.

They really should have won a Grammy for this album
Seriously. Ceremonials is my teenage angst album.
Grammy is a scam, they only award the popular, never the most talented.

Listened to this song on repeat when I was diagnosed with a brain tumor 6 years ago. And just like the song says, I’m not giving up just giving in, which means accepting the cards I was dealt and fighting to live.
I pray everything turns out fine for you Sage. 💙💙💙

I’m praying for you baby, everything's gonna be alright🙏🏽

My son just died. My heart hurts, somehow this song randomly appeared on my RUclips scroll. I can’t say what made me select it, I have never heard it or heard of the artist before. This song struck me to my very soul. It is to me both wonderful and terrible for the wound that I carry. I will be putting together a play list, and need to find more like this.
I'm sorry for your loss. Wish your son finds peace wherever he is
Im sorry fit your loss God bless you
I’m sorry for your loss. In my darkest times, Florence’s music comforted my soul. I’ve never been through what you’ve been through but I hope you can comfort in her music too. Sending love. X
I hope you heal gently with time and your son rests peacefully in love. ❤
I’m so sorry about your loss...stay strong Sir💙
Since you’re thinking along these lines
ptanyuh I don’t know who u r , but i hope that u found happiness
Deliver me~💗
This song reminds me of what it’s like to struggle with mental health, and self-sabotaging behaviors. This song to me, represents the fear of abandonment, yet pushing everyone away.
This is the first time I ever cried to this song, and I’ve been listening to it ever since it first came out.
Me too. I was struggling to use the right words to explain it x
Somebody in the comment section said something that I feel it's so powerful that I feel it needs to be shared along: We can overcome darkness.
"the fear of abandonment, yet pushing everyone away" - you described the best person I ever met. That made me cry.
Did you know that Florence wrote this song while badly hung over?
She was in a dark place in her life then.
She didn't want to re-visit the song live for 10 years,
because it made her so sad.
She began singing it live again in 2023.

I agree except it's about drugs and alcohol bringing her religious experiences

Cathedral where you cannot breathe
No need to pray, no need to speak
Now I am under all
And it's breaking over me
A thousand miles down to the sea bed
Found the place to rest my head

And the arms of the ocean are carrying me
And all this devotion was rushing out of me
And the crashes are heaven for a sinner like me
But the arms of the ocean delivered me

The lyrics of this song are so gloomy, almost depressing. But it moves me in spite of the suicidal message.
You're the first person I've come across who draws the same conclusion about the song's meaning.
I read somewhere that it's suppose to be about a religious girl who love the ocean and falls in love with a sailor. But one day he goes out to sea and never returns so the girl drowns herself in the ocean.
It's either this one or "What the Water Gave Me" that is about the author Virginia Woolf and how she committed suicide by drowning.
Lilyan Chadsey Virginia Woolf was a beautiful mind and a tragic artist. Love her work ❤

Nathan Robertson To be honest, I don't listen to much of her music. This is the one song that I've heard that really got my attention. :) Which ones are your favorites?

I can't help but miss the lungs and ceremonials era, where I admire how she's developed in her artistic meaning through her songs in HBHBHB, I always experience such a euphoric feeling when listening to her older songs, especially ceremonials, like they could all just swallow you up
The realist comment ever.
same here. i love HBHBHB, but ceremonials is my favourite album.
That's what Florence has always been to me. This presence and aura which she embodies through her music feels as if it could swallow up my existence, my world, and my soul. More than swallowing me whole I feel as if the music demands that I entirely capitulate.
HBHBHB is probably my favorite album from her because it feels a lot more cohesive and grounded than ceremonials and lungs but I love them all tbh

And today, I'm typing this while crying.

could have done with another "in the arms of the ocean" bit towards the end, song is basically dead after halfway through
Como superar o insuportável 😢
When I get waterproof headphones this will be the first song I'll be playing while floating doing nothing
Thank you so much for yr comment. I agree with u completely.
You should try making sweet love with this playing in the background. Just EPIC.
The same happened to me!
I love a lot this song, I always play this song when I take a shower!
Make me feel very relax and take me to another world :)
agree - it's also one of my fav songs .... and Jamie Campbell Bower as a cherry on the cake
The same, I started listening to them now in 2015 and I deeply regret of having not heard them before.
LYRIC
Looking up from underneath
Fractured moonlight on the sea
Reflections still look the same to me
As before I went under
And it's peaceful in the deep
'Cause either way you cannot breathe
No need to pray, no need to speak
Now I am under
Oh, and it's breaking over me
A thousand miles out to the sea bed
Found the place to rest my head
(Never let me go, never let me go
Never let me go, never let me go)
And the arms of the ocean are carrying me
And all this devotion was rushing over me
And the questions I have for a sinner like me
But the arms of the ocean deliver me
Though the pressure's hard to take
It's the only way I can escape
It seems a heavy choice to make
But now I am under, oh
And it's breaking over me
A thousand miles down to the sea bed
I found the place to rest my head
(Never let me go, never let me go
Never let me go, never let me go)
And the arms of the ocean are carrying me
(So cold and so sweet)
And all this devotion was rushing out of me
And the questions I have for a sinner like me
But the arms of the ocean deliver me
And it's over and I'm going under
But I'm not giving up
I'm just giving in
Oh, slipping underneath
So cold and so sweet
In the arms of the ocean, so sweet and so cold
And all this devotion, well, I never knew at all
And the questions I have for a sinner released
In the arms of the ocean deliver me
(Never let me go, never let me go
Never let me go, never let me go)
Deliver me
(Never let me go, never let me go
Never let me go, never let me go)
Never let me go, never let me go)
Deliver me
(Never let me go, never let me go)
Never let me go, never let me go)
Deliver me
Never let me go, never let me go
And it's over
I'm going under
But I'm not giving up
I'm just giving in
Ah, slipping underneath
Wooh, so cold, but so sweet
Thank you 🙏🏼
❤
Okay thanks
👑
small error, in the beginning she sings "cathedral where you cannot breathe"
it's my favorite line, it's so beautiful I think everyone deserves to hear it :)
We'll be fine and a certain sound or smell and we just break down 💞
Grieving with you love, stay strong I know they want us to be
I'm so sorry for your devastating loss. ❤🙏🌹
I too have a sister, my baby sister, who I helped raise and adore.
These beautiful memories shared remind us that we are so much stronger than any of us ever thought we were capable of being.❤️💙
Thank you for sharing your special sacred memories of your lovely beloved sister.❤
Sharing our loving rememberances is how we keep our beloved loved one's alive.
I hope we never stop, so that they always and forever may live on.💛🙏🌹
Sophie and others on this thread, I apologize for such a long post, I just really wanted to express my sincere condolences to you and let you know that I see you, send you a virtual hug, my thoughts, and prayers.
Please hang in there, sweetheart ❤🙏🌹🩷
As HRH Queen Elizabeth II, may she RIP, has ever so eloquently, yet brutally honestly said, "Grief is the price we pay for love." ❤️💔🩷
And truer words have never rang more true.
Vampire Diaries??? Season 3
Sorry for your loss😢
Her voice is what I imagine heaven to sound like.
Who else’s think of Damon and Elena first kiss with this song
Wasn’t their first kiss
me
It was their second kiss
It was 2nd kiss
The last Jedi 722 3rd actually
TVD made me fall in love with Florence and the machine and till date I still vibe to their albums

This song is magic
@@luanafreitas8965 Umas das piores coisas que aconteceu 💔😭

I literally cry everytime I hear this song. My mental health is bad and this song just makes sense to me
I remember crying when this part happened, I was so happy I legit bawled my eyes out because Damon finally got what he needed all along
Personally one of my favourite songs not because of some TV show, but cause this song resonated with my entire being and the events which unfolded in my life during my childhood to late teen stages. I would never give up, but I nearly gave in to the darkness that has swallowed me whole.
Love you Florence Welch! 🖤
my dad introduced Florence to me when I was like 4. 7 years later, still love her. 💖

Not some tv show, it’s a banger, but I get it

It was 9 years ago bro. That episode was released in 2012😂😂 not in 2008
HAHAHA yeah same
the one and only song which makes me feel alive in my darkest time. thankyou so much for this. I cant describe how much i appreciate this song
What about Cosmic love?
Hope your darkest times find some light soon friend 🙏
Words can not describe this song, there's something mistical, something more big than me, something religious but not exactly religious, it's like if my faith and hope, makes me want to believe in this big catheral of lyrics, and the sounds and voice of Florence, takes me to involve more spiritual,
only when I heard this song, I feel like that
Michaell Jezkova ...listen to st jude by florence
There is always something mystical in the world. Whether it be sight or sound, believe in the magic, believe me it’s better than watching television. Listen to the stories of the old and take joy in watching the young create their own stories.

my favorit song ever!!!
_Feels Horrorshow_ have u listened Florence new song?
RIP Cameron Boyce ☹️💔 you were such a huge part of my childhood ❣️
i dont know why, but i feel this song like a whisper into my soul. its so relaxing and calm

Beautiful yet haunting. A magnificent song.
"Hello! My name’s Angie and my dream is to be a Singer, i know is a lot to ask but could you please check out some videos of me singing on my channel? Please, I’ll be grateful. "
It's a beautifully haunting song that touches the heartstrings and lightly plays them
***** No.
This song brought me through some of the hardest times in my life, i feel like somone understands my feelings when I here this. but of course everyone is to busy gushing over vampires to actually here what the song is really saying.

👍🏻 That's the power of a great song!
So sad that today, a great song has zero meaning unless they hear it in a movie or see it in a meme!
You know what I need? A Florence song with Jamie Campbell Bower... it could even be a special version of this one... I just thing it would be the best thing ever. 🖤
Florence has such a powerful voice and her eyes are beautiful.
There's just something so spiritual that connects me to this song. It speaks to me on a spiritual level I didn't even know I had. It's simply breathtaking and outstanding. Thank you Florence❤️
The same with me .... OMG Like a cosmic conection!!! ( Kisses from Brazil)
@@klebermerrick8880 exactly, music is incredible. The power it has to connect people and souls who don't even know each other. Kisses from Italy❤️
I love florence and How the song were put on the scene of Delena.
But knowing that this song is bout suicide, I truly understand it
Didn't know this
1. I can't believe it's been TEN YEARS that this song is out.
2. Still so dark and so beautiful
3. how have i never noticed its JAMIE????
I forgot Jamie 🥹
I love it ALL!
the same happened to me...now I can't stop watching the video because the song is fucking perfect and Jamie is in the video.
I started listening to them when I heard this song on Vampire Diaries. :)
They are such good singers!
same i was like whaaaaaaa
I heard this on one tree hill
Me too I'm like oh my fudgin goodness
Your story is extraordinary ❤️ Thank you for sharing it and being so brave ❤️ I'm sending my biggest support and love to you and your family ❤️ Your Children must feel proud of his Mother, especially your Guardian Angel ❤️ Also, my deepest condolences to all of you 🥺❤️ God bless you ❤️🥺😘
So so sorry your loss. I seen what it did to my mum losing my brother 2 weeks before his 1st birthday. Your one hell of a woman 💙
Come on guys? Not a single comment about Jamie Campbel Bower? He's beautiful as always in this music video
Finally found someone!
Finally!!!
Only reason I came here
Thank you! This the comment I was looking for!
I was wondering if anyone else would notice... And I agree.. he's just as beautiful as ever!
FINALLY SOMEONE MENTIONS THIS BEAUTIFUL DOCUMENTARY. THANK YOU QUEEN.
I think she is the best female artist ever.
Noone else is even in her genre.
Dead Girl so true
Dead Girl you goddam right

So dark. So beautiful. So moving. I love this song since it’s been first released.
The way she screams at 3:42 with a face of sheer heartbreak is just amazingly emotional
