Because of low production. An engineer of theirs already explained they produce at most 15% over preorders.
If they produced millions of squares they'd be able to drop the cost a bunch through economy of scale, but they'd also have less control over accuracy and safe shipping.
Which is an important lesson to all the people saying we should produce less stuff "for the environment". The only reason tomatoes are $1 a pound and not $6-8 a pound is overproduction.

Good to see Rikon has come out with wider jointers. Space is an issue, but with this, eventhough you can’t necessarily do long boards, it gives the smapper project a wider jointer.

The greatest craftsman from the past were skilled with intuition and ability. We are working with wood. A beautiful product of nature where imperfections add character. When I see an old piece and I see a small flaw, I think about that moment in time when when his or her hand slipped or lost concentration or a cat jumped on his table and it takes me into the shop. I relate. Seeking such perfect accuracy is to me a flaw in my ability to create something imperfectly perfect. Love your videos btw.

I love that 12in Benchtop Rikon Jointer, but I'd love for someone from Rikon to one day explain what the difference is between theirs and the 10 other benchtop jointer brands that all look identical. I love my Rikon 10in bandsaw, and am in the market for a bench top jointer, but with all of them looking identical I find it hard to justify paying an extra $100-$200 for the one with the Rikon name on it. Am I just paying more for branding? Are the parts better quality?n Wahuda already has a cast iron top.

I'd like to have it myself. I bought a hyundai sonata because I figured I could get the limited edition fully loaded for the base price of other manufactures plus it's great on fuel. Unfortunately I didn't realize they had an oil consumption issue but fortunately I haven't had that problem myself although I do change the oil a lot more regularly then recommended. Personally the only issues I've had was the two recalls and on the second recall a trunk latch the check engine light came on when they pulled it into the stop. It turned out to be a software update related to the knock sensor which the sensor was the first recall lol. It does seem like a luxury vehicle with all the features I am not accustomed to being I've always run my vehicles until they start to get to expensive to fix. This usually is when they get 350,000mi on them when something fails that isn't worth fixing. Time will only tell how many miles I'll be able to push this one but so far I just passed 125,000mi so I'm hopeful as much as I paid for it I'll get at least double that. In my opinion vehicles are way too expensive these days. I need transportation not a flashy money pit that loses its value faster then I can write the check. Vehicles are consumable products and I'm not concerned about showing off however I do enjoy the heated and cooled seats lol.

I want to comment on the MAST R PLATE from Jessem again. I have the original from like 20 years back. Over the years the industry has pushed and pushed people into lifts. I made a video back in Feb about lack of decent plates on the market because of the industry direction. I actually called Jessem about that and they told me then a new plate was in the Works.
And right now it has caused a disruption in the industry as Rockler has all thier plates on clearance!!

I wonder if the the Rikon 14" open-stand band saw going on sale for $999 everywhere has something to do with this model being pushed out in 2025?
As a weekend warrior/hobbyist, the deluxe 14" (316, I think) would be more than sufficient, but $1,500+ is a bit too much for me. I'm hoping that one gets pushed down a bit too with the introduction of a new model.
Or I could just get the $999 open-stand one as it seems to be more than sufficient for occasional resawing/hobby use.

Technically all of the JessEm products are imports since they are manufactured in my home country of Canada. Canada is not yet a part of the U.S. and thus have to be imported into the U.S. The JessEm squares are not shipping until the end of July, so technically not yet available (they are available to order). When you order, however, don't expect any kind of reasonable communication about when your order will ship. I bought the rulers, which showed up at my front door one day, and a week later received the notice that they were being shipped.
