My gt has the same Colour. Would do anything (allmost 😂) to get a set of hubs like that. Lovely build ❤️ mine has been converted to 1x10 36t and 11-36. Also using dropbars now. Flatbar the first 20 years i owned it. Also as a 3x7… before the conversion. Bought it at a market for 200 danish kroner = 30 dollars at that time. It served my family well. The kids are grown up now, but they have both commuted to School On it. So it has a special place In my heart.
I was taught to put all the spoke into the hub all at once paying attention to the valve hole vs spoke hole pattern. It may seem complicated at first, but you never have to bend spokes when lacing. If you have a 3× lacing, just count 6 spokes inclusive when inserting into the rim. Nice upgrade BTW :)
If you lace in the correct order you only have to bend 8 out of 32 spokes, if you don't have ham fists you won't kink the spokes too. It would be nice to put them all in at once but the chances of scratching the rims goes up exponentially especially if you are free holding the rim all just to save 5 minutes work
Interesting.. never tried that method. Have tried a few ways now and found this to be my favourite so far, you only have to bend the last set of 8 or so and not by much. Might have to give that one a go at some point, but as @janeblogs324 mentions I feel like I would end up scratching the rim without a good tool to hold the rim and hub in place
Love it! I’ve got a Kona Cinder Cone originally bought for my teen son, sat in my garage. I’m now thinking it could be built into a perfect commuter bike.
DO IT!!!....DOOO ITTT!!!! 😂 I just finished decking out a Oldskool Cannondale in Modern stuff... IT'S GORGEOUS!!.. That Kona would be a Similar thing!!.. DO ITTTTT!!!!....DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!😂
You got almost the same Bike! lol... Those Hubs ARE something Special tho aren't they!?.. I thought the Rear was a Industry Nine Hub at the start.. Gorgeous stuff!.
I have mine setup as more of a commuter, with a 38t oval chainring up front, some curlier bars and mudguards. drive.google.com/file/d/1rD-cYKNW3tlBlsQla8SlIA--kCF58l9b/view?usp=sharing @@waveywheelies
That's a beautiful build dude, fantastic job! I got a lot of love for vintage / retro mtb and atb, built up an '85 Raleigh Maverick to a similar in style to this. ❤
I'm just finishing building a old Cannondale F1000 (not too sure of age..OLD..was the first Year to have Disk Mounts on the Frame)..the frames Gorgeous..got a Black paint that Fades into Silver..then fades into White at the Stays.. Beautiful retro frame... Decked it out in Modern 11x1 XTR..Mavic Crossmax's.. Hope disks and Headset and Carbon Fibre and Titanium everything else lol.. it weighs next to nothing!...Can't WAIT to get this beauty out and about!..........AAANYWAYS!....Sorry for Chewing Your Ears off here😂.. I'll leave You in Peace!!😊
Turned out Beautiful!.. I just done a Cannondale f1000 oldskool frame.. decked it out in XTR EVERYTHING..Mavic Crossmax's.. Carbon and Titanium Everything else.. DMR V12's.. Hope headset and Disks..This thing LOOKS GORGEOUS!..Weighs Next to nothing..I LOVE IT!!... I LOVE bringing these Fantastic Retro Frames back into Use and they LOOK amazing when done properly!.. Like this GT here!..Fantastic Job!!.❤
Haha! The main reason I usually use the open end is because it’s inline with the spanner, so when putting a lot of weight into it the bb tool stays in. Where as the other end is on an angle and it causes the bb tool to pop out easier (I hope that makes sense)
Cool vid! I am also building up a retro GT, 1996 Zaskar 6061 frame. Wheelset going on it is a set of Mavic 217 in gold ano, with those same red GT hubs!
No upgrads neaded for this one. 😎 There are always things one could change, but if they are upgrades or not, is in the eye of the beholder. You could change the cranks for new XT hollowteck or BB30, but you're RF-crank is super nice and a really good one. And you could up for 12s_11-50t casette/ gear, but there is no benefit. Enjoy and keep on ripping.🤞
Nicely done! Great components. With the clutch derailleur you could remove the stay protector. Such a nice color and paint in great shape I think the bike would look cleaner without it. So.... thoughts on the Brooks C17?
Thanks! I did think about removing it but thought I’d keep it on for the initial test ride, I definitely agree it would look nicer without it! Yeah I really like the C17 so far, surprisingly soft, but I do need to give it a good longer ride to really get the review, but either way I like the look of it 🙌
Hey I have a 18'' GT frame, but feeling stretched our with the 140mm stem. Looking doing something similar to you, what's the frame size and your height/inseam?
Bike porn right here! I love GT bikes and have a few myself. I would of loved to see Thompson seatpost and stem in silver on it.😍 I'm in Australia and it's also hard to get 26inch rims here. I did manage to get a cheap pair of rims though, for my Kona Lava Dome build, which they are already laced up to a LX hub on the rear and a sweet Kona hub on the front... Sweet build mate 😍
Those hubs are a match made in heaven, looking so freaking cool!
In our area it costs $300
@@dylanwang3452what?... the HUBS???.. $300!!??..... or am I confused with something?.. Seems VERY expensive tbh.
Your videos are soo chill, really liked this build. And video is pure enjoyment. best way to relax for me
Cheers man!❤️
yow yow.. I find this build therapeutic.. keep 'em videos coming..
Thanks! Will do🤝

Riding a bike is nice but ripping it is FUEGO🔥
Nice build! It was lovely napping away to your video twice, very chill music! Genuinely love that!
Cheers! Glad you enjoyed it, was testing out some different music so thanks for the feedback :)
Sheeeesh. Those hubs. They’re perfect for that bike!
Cheers man! Was so happy to get ahold of them
Hubs are 🔥! Fork would be looking nicer with tapered legs toward dropouts, though. Enjoy new incarnation of your bike!
This video gave me the opposite of existential dread. Those hubs are niiice
Wow, great job on the bike! I would be happy to ride that one! love the classic GT's..your channel is fun too..
Wonderful upgrades. Just love those silver v-brakes.❤
Love this build! I'm rocking a good old red Timberline with a Surley fork and 10 speed Deore too. But I'm extremely jealous on your new hubs!
You got almost the same Bike! lol... Those Hubs ARE something Special tho aren't they!?.. I thought the Rear was a Industry Nine Hub at the start.. Gorgeous stuff!.

What a clean build. I want something similar, but I only have a 1x9 to work with.

loved your edit at 5:48
Great Build, good choice of parts.
If you use steel wool on the brake side of the rim you can clean them up so shiny that they'll Look Brand New.
Cheers! Thanks for the tip, I’ll try it out!
nice one, would change to silver stem and spacers to match silver crank and seatpost
Such a nice bike, great music choice as well!

Great video as always! Loved seeing this build. Miss the typical build music though. Don’t blame you for trying something new though.
Cheers man! and thanks for the feedback🙌
amazing video bro! The bike is a beauty.
Thanks bro🙏
Slick. Love the upgrade videos. Always takes time figuring out what works and what doesn't. ❤ from chch.
Cheers!🙌 Yeah it sure does, that’s the fun part
Amazing bicycle, good job and bravo 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Cheers🙌
Beautiful 😍 only thing I’d change is the funn bar and stem for surly sunrise bars and a polished silver bmx stem
I may have that exact set up for an upcoming build✌️
Killer build, totally love it! Awesome video mate!
magnificent bike and great video as usual bro !
thanks bro!!🙌
Wow loved the upgrades!
Thanks🙌
love your commentary, keep it up!
Thank you, I’ll try do some more, thanks for the feedback :)
very nice retro build
Nice bike, i just restored a 1994 Zaskar and i put Maxxis Holy Rollers on it. I made it into beach cruiser, its really fun.

Beautiful red color
❤️
Beautiful bicycle.
Give us more upgrade video's. I think IT will be more inspiration to save ours and newly bought 'old' bicycles:p
Will do! :)
Gorgeous!!
Cool vid, think the bikes perfect 👍
I bought a brand new Timberline in 94' a blue one , came with the bullhorn handlebars 😊
could put a little washer under the screw for the bb cable guide maybe or just file the screw down a bit
Simplesmente ficou muuuuito top D +
Easily a B+ ....."D+"?... Terrible Grading Sir!.. Tut'Tut'Tut!😮
Haha I’ll take what I can get!🙃
Top job it's nearly as good as mine 👍👌💯
omg this build is so sick. 😊
Cheers!🙌
Quite jealous of your gorgeous new rebuild! Love the mellow tunes as well. How is the new saddle working out for you? Does it take long soften up?
Recently laced up some dt swiss 535 26" rims. Running them tubeless, rim brake, and they were only $30 CAD/rim
I did see those when looking but unfortunately no one stocks them here in NZ :(
"Yes Baby" !!!
Super cool channel 😎

Amazing bike! I have a Cannondale f3000 sl can you restore one?
A Stem with higher rise to get rid of some of the Spacers on the Fork or and taller bars heck BMX cruiser bars

salut quel est la marque et modèle du pédalier ? merci
What type of surly fork is it ?
❤❤❤ very good condition ❤❤❤ cycling work..
unreal
Your videos are making me wanna build a something funky and retro, any good recommendations for sarter frame? Mtb-like similar to this?
Beautyfull bro. What tyres are u setting there?
Hey I have a 18'' GT frame, but feeling stretched our with the 140mm stem. Looking doing something similar to you, what's the frame size and your height/inseam?
What are you grips really like the looks of those!?
What oil you use for inside the cable?
It’s Inox mx3
I love hellenic stays. To me, they should be standard.
Классно сделал велик...и классно катаешь🤩👍
🤩🤩

I have recently acquired one of the Reynolds 853 Timberline frames. This has been good inspo. Where did you find your hubs?
Awesome, love some Reynolds! I got them off a friend of mine, best bet would be eBay or Facebook groups I’d say
Lovely build! How tall are you? i can pick one up for a great price but im worried it will be a tad small.
Le agregaría un manubrio de BMX ...
If you’re gonna ride it like a bmx, trials bike put a bmx stem and bars on it!
OK, fair, enough epic changes. The hubs are ❤ bike porn I love it! Sub from me pal 👍
I just built a Ricochet that was abandoned. And left to rust
San Marcos look so cool but they are so uncomfortable
no way a derailleur on this channel ??
😅
@@waveywheelies lovely build though, as per usual
You gave your brother a karakoram and your riding this
