The idea of a traditional song about whiskey is so cute to me for some reason. Like, some guy was like “I love whiskey so much I'm going to sing about it in front of my friends”, and his friends were like “Hey man I like your song. How does it go again?” and then they sang it together and someone sang it in another pub and it continued like that. That’s adorable.

There's actually a whole section of traditional Irish music known as drinking songs, the whole purpose of which would be a whole pub full of aul feckers arm and arm singing as they throw back another pint. Drinking has a long time been a social thing in our good emerald isle, as has our music, and they met in a very fun way

The location, inisowen , could someone tell me is this a location physical or mythological? I grew up with tura lura lullaby and hither and yon repeated and not letting a rocking chair be unused least a witch will come, protestant jokes and hunger stories, longing for the emerald isle in the blue eyes of a grandmother who was Catholic without mass and stubborn as all heck, hard and a woman is beauty with strong working hands not a damsel in distress, saying her mind and like many Irish, they understand native American tribal folks like my grandfather who raised me mainly, as the late night I was born the 2 long divorced told the daughter of all shameful ways, " the baby comes with me and my wife, either thru court that I can pay for and you can't, or without the disgrace of you losing without trying, she comes with us and you may visit and stay even if you work or go to the junior college or a mix of both, " the one called my biological mother said thank goodness take the mistake, and the irish mother of hers, my grandmother said to her long divorced husband, " I'll take weekends at least all day Saturdays when my work doesn't have me out of state or country, and keep her all night too so you and your wife can be alone, I'll buy her clothing and shoes and help with toys and all holiday to dos" and so I heard the lullaby's and stories and was exposed but my grandfather as tribal raised and with vigor to keep me in our community as well, i mainly grew up knowing and definitely looking as of our native tribes members here, so while i know and appreciate a great deal of the irish part of my blood, I'm removed from past childhood anything more, side from knowing (?) Gaelic is English for and therefore incorrect and Gaelig is the correct spelling and calling of Irish folks and the language and " como até tu?" Meaning " how are you?" I'm pretty much frozen where you'd leave a child of 7 years or so in terms of knowing from the source much else, bless you if you'd read this, I hate typing, I don't have computer just phone and English comes weird outta me, mouth and fingertips, so if you can enlighten me I would be grateful

As for Gaelic, I'm a semi-native speaker myself (grandparents from Kerry Gaeltacht) and they referred to the language as Gaelic when speaking English, so I don't care what they called it in your class in school. Most teachers don't even pronounce the words right...
It's true that Irish, Scottish and Manx Gaelic are part of the Gaelic language group, but they weren't viewed as separate languages by the Gaels (at least until very recently), and that's why older native speakers (in both Ireland and Scotland) called it Gaelic when referring to it in English.

What best wets your whistle? What's clearer than crystal?
sweeter than honey and stronger than steam?
What can make the dumb talk? What can make the lame walk?
What's the elixir of life and philosopher's stone
And what helped Mr. Brunel to dig the Thames Tunnel?
Sure wasn't it whiskey from ould Inishowen?
So stick to the cratur' the best thing in nature
For sinking your sorrows and raising your joys
And boys I'd half wonder if lightning and thunder
Was made from the plunder of whiskey me boys
Mr. Brunel - Marc Brunel was an Anglo-French engineer who led the construction of the Thames Tunnel. Construction of the Tunnel started in February 1825 and was completed in 1843 going from Rotherhithe and Wapping. It is the first tunnel known to have been constructed successfully underneath a navigable river and it is still in use today.
ould Inishowen - Inishowen is a peninsula in the north of County Donegal in Ireland and is the largest peninsula on the island of Ireland.
cratur' - Irish term used to describe illegal liquor, distilled at a person's home.

There are sounds we encounter in our lives, that can move us - the haunting, angelic, powerful and yet heartbreaking sound of Hozier can do so. Able to imprint upon us a lasting impression that boosts us, leaves us more than we were before, better in some way for having heard it. Enhanced by the experience, we are immeasurably lucky to have been made richer by the sharing. This sound makes me pine for my father and nostalgic about our roots. I can’t drink whiskey, but I can raise a pint! Cheers.
