As I sit in my garage here in Kentucky, watching a spring storm, and having just been to Ireland I did a search for this song as I sip a wee dram of bourbon (I mean I am from Kentucky remember...) and this was just lovely - slainte!
For what it’s worth you and your singing 100% inspired a bard I play in D&D, and I can say with full confidence he has turned into one of my most well written characters. Thanks for al the work you put into this stuff!!
From one bard two another, The cradle is passed, Strum on your struther, Fingers so fast. Raising the spirits of those with an ear, Smiles and carousing night after eve, From this bard to the other not quite so near, In you and your friends do I wholly believe!
I'm finishing off DMing a campaign and gonna be starting a new one as a character... wasn't sure what to play as but I think you've given me my inspiration!
I’ve loved this song since I was an extremely wee lassie, and only recently rediscovered it because of your first upload of the song…which was flawlessly spectacular. Full version now? Sign me up!! This is gonna be unparalleled!! Edit: Better than I could have possibly imagined.
As a minor with parents who don't drink, I have a question. Is whiskey as good as this song makes it seem. Because every time I listen to this, I find myself reaching for a small glass bottle that isn't there, then getting sad because I miss something I've never known. Congrats to you, Colm, and to whoever wrote this, for thoroughly confluzzling me.
As someone who drinks various types of Whiskeys/Bourbons/Scotches I will always remember what a wonderful lady at a distillery told me. "...it's only as good as the company you share it with". So they best way to enjoy it is with enjoyable company, but if you are alone then you'd hope to be happy and right with yourself. My words of caution would be that there IS such thing as too much of a good thing when it comes to whiskey (or any alcohol). So when you are of age, I'd recommend a visiting a distillery so you can learn about and respect this wonderful elixir. :)
There's an extremely strong drinking culture in Ireland. As the other commenters may have said it's mostly an acquired taste. "Stronger than steam" is accurate lol. And you're probably aware that alcoholism is a huge problem anywhere, so beyond for artistic purposes like here, I wouldn't romanticize drinking too much.
It is as good as he sings. There’s nothing that’s been for me more in life. I would say I’m Irish but my ancestors crossed the Atlantic in the early 1900s so I’m as American as it gets. We still cling to our roots though
we seem to have lost these old songs that are sung with pride and tell a story about history. and their just plain fun to listen too. and your accent just makes them better.
I don't know what it is about Colm singing Irish tunes but it's always so special... Is it pride or joy to be Irish? Mayhaps it's the instruments, composition, lyrics of the Emerald Isle? OR MAYBE...it's the sheer, raw, epic power of knowing he has Skellig Gift store literally putting the clothes on his back?? #IrishGifts
Colm, with a host of amazing performances that you have, I have to say that this ties for first place as my favorite, alongside "I'm Still Here". More than once, I have spent an entire work day just listening to these two songs over and over. Thank you so much for sharing your gift with us. You bring joy and excitement.
354 good folks here on Sunday 14 November 2021, Colm's 28th birthday, for the premiere of "The Humours of Whiskey" (full version). Savannah & Colm are in Brighton at a hotel with "Nougat" the hotel cat! Their Air BnB ghosted them and they had to find a hotel after a full day of travelling. A most stressful day. *Happy Birthday.* Generous viewers donated a total of 421.99 to make this day even more special.
What a special day it was! By the name Nougat, I'm guessing that the hotel kitty is white. Right now i have a black cat on my lap, who purred all the way through the song.
Makes me wish my city had an Irish pub with a singer of your caliber...they don't have music past a broken juke box...it's rather sad that everyone can't enjoy music this amazing when drinking
Christopher if you here this version i hope you know life hasn't been right for aix years. Im thankful that tou a father, its all you wver wantedt to be. The way it came about wasnt the the way we expected. Your an amazing man and that daughter of yours will know you no different. Be strong and dillegent. Teach her the ways ofthis world, as best tou can. I send no more than my love and blessings. With one last thing... Be patient and keep every moment as precious
Am i the only one who wishes Colm would put the lyrics or the comments or captions? I need to sing along to all these songs and most times I've never heard them before
Thank you for just making me smile, your singing always brightens my day. Especially right now dealing with a somewhat poorly horse and hoping to have found a solution. Thank you Colm for all your hard work love.
The first time i ever heard this song was your abrievated cover. I was instantly covered in goose bumps. The twang and tenor your voice lends to this beautiful folk music makes it so uniquely yours, yet absolutely representative of the culture and times the music comes from. Thank you for sharing your talents with the world.
I have to say that the auto generated closed captions try so Very hard that they simply had to take a rest for a little while in the middle to make it through the whole thing. You have such a lovely voice, Colm! And the drive is so...mmm! So good!
Singing along on my drive to and from work I now have around 80% memorized from hearing this my first time a few months ago. Goa get it down then get some of my fellows to sing it at the bar.
There we go! Man did it again. I love Irish/Scottish folk beyond words. Your voice in this one is what I imagine medieval singers sounded like. Nailed it!

Yes! I was in my grandfather's bar not too long ago and they had a bunch of PB fans in and they caught me watching it on my tablet and we covered Black Velvet Band and Red Right Hand. It was epic.
This is absolutely fantastic, fair play to ya Colm. I remember reading the full version of this song and wondered what it would sound like in its entirety. This is it.
Three people are either completely deaf, or complete teetotalers. Even if you were deaf, the sweaters are enough for a like. Bless you Colm, thank you for keeping this music alive.
I myself am a complete teetotaler, but really good music like this is to me as whiskey is to its drinkers. And this is the best whiskey song of many such songs, and Colm's is the best version I've ever heard.
Made this Irish/American's heart glow. Glad to have found your channel. Had it not been been for this song and whisky... l would not *have know of your existence. Godspeed Sir.

There is something anciently beautiful about Irish people. Not sure if it's because of the history of them as indentured servants, teaching Jamaican slaves English, but I just have such a love for these people. They feel so familiar to me, from the way they sound to the way they drink to how family oriented they are. They're kindred.
It wasn't coincidence, I believe your camera picked up on your literal inner glow. Brother you are tapped into your power in a way most can only dream of. Your spirit illuminates your body somehow. Good on ya brother!
Listening to this with longing during my 2nd pregnancy in less than 2 years. That first sip of whiskey I can finally have in May is going to be the most delicious beverage in the world.
not to be too emotional about stuff like this, but I love the way you sing and the songs you pick always bring me to tears! Something about them really just lifts the heart and spirits
I really thought I was the only one getting emotional over how good this song is and how cool it is that people like him exist and are so skilled in their craft
It's a rare thing when I pump my headphones right up just for the vocals, but this was worth it. This is going to be a new sound test and I need a 24 bit FLAC of it right now.
THANK YOU!!! I first heard this song on an old scratchy cassette tape, and the singer had such a thick accent that I could only understand about 75% of the lyrics. That didn't stop me from filling in my own lyrics so I could sing a bastardized version of this acapella around campfires and in bars on open mic nights. Now that I've heard a crystal clear version I cannot wait to learn the real song. Oh, and of course, you're voice and musicality are unworldly as usual. :-)
I hyper-fixate on things randomly and I don’t know if you can see this through analytics or something but I have listened to this for what feels like 20 times a day for the past week or so. And I can’t stop.
Я только второй день как узнала о Вашем существовании. Как музыкант пребываю в невероятном шоке и восхищении, какой невероятный диапазон, владение голосом! Брависсимо, восторг!!!
Not sure how anyone is going to take this, but when I tapped the link and Colm's voice rang through the phone speaker, one of my hens hopped up beside me to listen. 🤣

Humors of Whiskey (the)
Let your quacks and newspapers be cutting their capers
About curing the vapors the scratch and the gout
With their medical potions, their serums and their lotions
Upholding their notions, they're mighty put out.
Who can tell the true physic to all that's pathetic
And pitch to the divil, cramp, colic and spleen
You'll know it I think if you take a big drink
With your mouth to the brink of a jug of poteen
So stick to the cratur' the best thing in nature
For sinking your sorrows and raising your joys
Oh what botheration, no dose in the nation
Can give consolation like poteen me boys.
No liquid cosmetic to lovers athletic
Or bodies pathetic can give such a bloom
As the sweet by the powers in the garden of flowers
Ever gave their own bowers such a darling perfume
And this liquid so rare if you willingly share
To be taking your hair when it's frizzled and dead
Oh the sod has the merit to yield the true spirit
So strong it will shake all the hairs from your head
Then stick to the cratur' the best thing in nature
For sinking your sorrows and raising your joys
Oh since its perfection, no doctor's direction
Can cleanse the complexion like poteen me boys
While a child in me cradle, me nurse with her ladle
Was filling my mouth with a notion of pap
When a drop from her bottle fell into my throttle
I stumbled and capered clean out of her lap
On the floor I lay crawlin' and screaming and bawling
'Til me mother and father were called to the fore
All sobbing and sighing they feared I was dying
But soon found I only was crying for more.
So stick to the cratur' the best thing in nature
For sinking your sorrows and raising your joys
Oh lord how they'd chuckle if babes in their truckle
They only could suckle on poteen me boys
Through my youthful aggression, through times of depression
My childhood's impression still clung to my mind
And at school or at college the basis of knowledge
I never could gulp 'til with whiskey combined
And as older I'm growing times ever bestowin'
On Erin's potation, a flavor so fine
And how ere they may lecture on jove and his nectar
Itself is the only true liquid divine
So stick to the cratur' the best thing in nature
For sinking your sorrows and raising your joys
Oh lord, 'tis the right thing for courting and fighting
There's nowt so exciting as poteen me boys.
Come guess me this riddle, what beats pipes and fiddle
What's hotter than mustard and milder than cream
What best wets your whistle, what's clearer than crystal
What's sweeter than honey and stronger than steam
What'll make the lame walk, what will make the dumb talk,
The elixir of life and philospher's stone
And what helped Mr. Brunnell to build the Thames Tunnel
Wasn't it poteen from ould Inisowen
So stick to the cratur' the best thing in nature
For sinking your sorrows and raising your joys
Oh lord, it's no wonder, if lightning and thunder
Weren't made from the plunder of poteen me boys.
You maidens pathetic, with lovers athletic
For liquid cosmetic, you can't beat the drop
With a glow to your cheek, it will make your heart leap
It'll quiet a stallion or cure an old cob
At the mouth you would drool, be reduced to a fool
You'd kick up your heels and you'd peel to the buff
Then 'tis he'd be pathetic while you'd be athletic
If only you'd take a few drops of the stuff
So stick to the cratur' the best thing in nature
For sinking your sorrows and raising your joys
For there's nothing like whiskey to make maidens frisky
It soon separates all the men from the boys.

Thank you for this, there's a sort of roller-coaster joy to singing along that I was really craving right now!
You droped your crown, king
Thank you very much!
Thank you!
Thanks! Wish I’d seen this before listening 4 times trying to figure out the lyrics myself lol
As I sit in my garage here in Kentucky, watching a spring storm, and having just been to Ireland I did a search for this song as I sip a wee dram of bourbon (I mean I am from Kentucky remember...) and this was just lovely - slainte!
Look up Gerry owens Irish song
For what it’s worth you and your singing 100% inspired a bard I play in D&D, and I can say with full confidence he has turned into one of my most well written characters.
Thanks for al the work you put into this stuff!!
From one bard two another,
The cradle is passed,
Strum on your struther,
Fingers so fast.
Raising the spirits of those with an ear,
Smiles and carousing night after eve,
From this bard to the other not quite so near,
In you and your friends do I wholly believe!
I'm finishing off DMing a campaign and gonna be starting a new one as a character... wasn't sure what to play as but I think you've given me my inspiration!
I started a DND game with some friends from school and my character is an alcoholic bard that also does electric magic
I have a Bard RDD I've been playing for over a decade that was bard/merchant/crafter that I can say has been taken over by Colm's influence.
He's truly an inspiration. I made him a character in a novel, too, and I have some songs on repeat when writing.
The smile on my face for this full version with the Celtic/Irish accents is to be joyful about. Thank you my good sir.
For sinking your sorrows and raising your joys
Has to be one of the best lines ever writen.
I’ve loved this song since I was an extremely wee lassie, and only recently rediscovered it because of your first upload of the song…which was flawlessly spectacular. Full version now? Sign me up!! This is gonna be unparalleled!! Edit: Better than I could have possibly imagined.
A tartan Scotsman with bagpipes
LOVE IT ! MORE PLEASE!
And you're probably aware that alcoholism is a huge problem anywhere, so beyond for artistic purposes like here, I wouldn't romanticize drinking too much.
yes whiskey is great, although you should enjoy it well measured
It is decent in my opinion for whiskey
Could be anothah life mate..
Can’t wait to master this song to sing around the campfire at my next LARP event!
was thinking the same for my next SCA event
How do u get into those events
@@cordellallen4660 i just google searched sca and my town may be a bit harder due to covid but usually they have a fight practice to attend

It is as good as he sings. There’s nothing that’s been for me more in life. I would say I’m Irish but my ancestors crossed the Atlantic in the early 1900s so I’m as American as it gets. We still cling to our roots though
The bard himself can hit the highs of the Misty mountains, and the lows of Moria. I tip my hat to you, Sir Colm McGuinness.
May the Lord bless all of your days for sharing this beauty with us.
we seem to have lost these old songs that are sung with pride and tell a story about history. and their just plain fun to listen too. and your accent just makes them better.
Well this is an Irish song that has roots from about 1899ish.
#IrishGifts
I would wager it's the sense of belonging, familiarity, home.
Skellig? Thanks now I know where to look….Laurie New Zealand.
As a lover of hip hop, I must confess. This might be one of the greatest works of art I've ever heard. Well done Sir 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
The metamorphosis is complete. Colm is officially a reincarnated medieval Seanchaí!!
Agreed
Reincarnated? Immortal more like. He never died and never will
yea, he’s probably lived like 7 lives
He’s the bard of my dnd camps
Pricecely
This man delivers! Not only full version, but much better pacing.
Love this!
Would love to hear your rendition of “Ashes” and/or “Oak & Ash & Thorn” too.
Wait, me and Colm share a birthday? That's really cool!
What a special day it was! By the name Nougat, I'm guessing that the hotel kitty is white. Right now i have a black cat on my lap, who purred all the way through the song.
This mate need, and deserves, more subscribers than what he haves.
Who else agrees?
It's official. This song, as sung by Colm, will play at my celebration of life someday.
You should have Finnegan's Wake played also, LOL.
add the poteen for a real Irish wake!
Oh how I love the Irish! I’ll be humming this all day!❤️
Makes me wish my city had an Irish pub with a singer of your caliber...they don't have music past a broken juke box...it's rather sad that everyone can't enjoy music this amazing when drinking
For the sake of sales alone, a song like this makes you want to drink out of enjoyment
Oh... this is absolutely wonderful to hear Colm do a full cover of the Humours of Whiskey.
I don't drink alcohol, but I can't get enough of this song! Love it
Same here, man! Same here!
Fun fact: Tom Lenihan, the one who popularized the song in modern times never drank alcohol.
I do I love Irish whiskey ( Jameson) Erin go bragh greetings from a Irish American 🇺🇲🇮🇪☘️☘️☘️

Just cracked open a bottle of Connemara to drink while listening to this song. Something about it makes the stuff taste utterly divine.
Im half Jamaican, half English. Yet listening to this i feel proud to be Irish haha this is brilliant! What a voice!

A fine addition to every Irish wedding I've been to😘❤️
I have to say that the auto generated closed captions try so Very hard that they simply had to take a rest for a little while in the middle to make it through the whole thing. You have such a lovely voice, Colm! And the drive is so...mmm! So good!
Singing along on my drive to and from work I now have around 80% memorized from hearing this my first time a few months ago.
Goa get it down then get some of my fellows to sing it at the bar.
Yes yes yes! Even better than I had hoped! Another absolutely amazing performance 👏 🙌 ❤ 😍
The talent this guy has tho! He amazes me everytime he realeses something😍
There we go! Man did it again. I love Irish/Scottish folk beyond words. Your voice in this one is what I imagine medieval singers sounded like. Nailed it!
Unbelievably good!! Brings me a smile every time.
Colm, this is absolutely stunning. I love this so much! Thank you so much for all the songs you’ve done thus far💛
Never heard this song before, but oh boy did I enjoy this! The lyrics made me laugh and the beat made me dance. Love your music so much!
And here I was, thinking myself already in love with Celtic music.
I can feel my ancestors dancing with this song, so beautiful and full of pride. Thank you
Toss a coin to our marvelous Colm.
Love your pure voice, reminds me of medieval Celtic bard. Keep it up fam.🤙
Peace ✌️
My childhood'simpression still clung to my mind
And at school or at college the basis of knowledge
I never could gulp 'til with whiskey combined
And as older I'm growing times ever bestowin'
On Erin's potation, a flavor so fine
And how ere they may lecture on jove and his nectar
Itself is the only true liquid divine
So stick to the cratur' the best thing in nature

This song is pure balm for the mind and soul. I have now listened to it for around 8 hours while studying and cant get enough. xD
Such a well done rendition. Listened to this song a dozen times at this point. Thank you for this!
I love this song literally my new favorite. I play it at least 20 times a day! Your voice is honey ❤
I imagine peaky blinders, i imagine old ireland and traveling folk, i imagine brawls in birmingham and a simpler time... Very well executed #respect
But.. this is irish isnt it?
Yes! I was in my grandfather's bar not too long ago and they had a bunch of PB fans in and they caught me watching it on my tablet and we covered Black Velvet Band and Red Right Hand. It was epic.
Happy St. Pats all. Peace and love to all of you brougs on this day!!
Perfect, looking forward to the party and the awesome premiere chat 😁
I've never heard a song so addictive ,in 40 years.
Really looking forward to this. The version you released earlier this year is brilliant!
The Saint provides with another beautiful vocal gift! Hail!
The full version gives me goosebumps! Once again, you impress me Sir Colm McGuinness!
I’ll listen 1000’s times more. 🍻 it’s a favorite lad.
I’m so excited for this one! I love the shorty version you have and I wished it was longer :)

There is something anciently beautiful about Irish people. Not sure if it's because of the history of them as indentured servants, teaching Jamaican slaves English, but I just have such a love for these people.
They feel so familiar to me, from the way they sound to the way they drink to how family oriented they are. They're kindred.
Great job Colm! I appreciate the minimal instrumentation, letting us enjoy the beaut of a voice that you have. Keep being awesome!
It wasn't coincidence, I believe your camera picked up on your literal inner glow. Brother you are tapped into your power in a way most can only dream of. Your spirit illuminates your body somehow. Good on ya brother!
I'm so happy that you actually did a full cover of this.
Listening to this with longing during my 2nd pregnancy in less than 2 years. That first sip of whiskey I can finally have in May is going to be the most delicious beverage in the world.
A woman most deserving
not to be too emotional about stuff like this, but I love the way you sing and the songs you pick always bring me to tears! Something about them really just lifts the heart and spirits
I really thought I was the only one getting emotional over how good this song is and how cool it is that people like him exist and are so skilled in their craft
This was awesome , going to slowly copy the lyrics, memorize them for St Patricks day, thank you, this was amazing.
Happy Birthday Colm! Here's to many many more to come!🍺 Brilliant job on this song! Absolutely loved it! Well done!🌹
This is the song that’s gonna get me through this winter. Thank you sir
It's a rare thing when I pump my headphones right up just for the vocals, but this was worth it. This is going to be a new sound test and I need a 24 bit FLAC of it right now.
Thanks for this Colm. You are an amazing singer that ignites the blood of every Irishman. Slainte Mhath
My life is now complete. Shame I have no whiskey with me now. Oh well, the beer will do.
This is absolutely magic... And makes the whisky go down to fast and perfect!
I really love the way this climbs through the song! Puts as much fire in you as whiskey
Nothing better than a large home measure of a 12 year Bowmore Whisky and this song on a Sunday evening.
Just beautiful. I can't stop listening to this on repeat thank you!! Absolutely incredible, this makes me wanna sing and drink with my best mates.
I've been waiting for this for so long!!! Ty Colm! I can't wait!
I hyper-fixate on things randomly and I don’t know if you can see this through analytics or something but I have listened to this for what feels like 20 times a day for the past week or so. And I can’t stop.
I love this song! We're so lucky you did a full version!
So excited the first one is what made me fall in love with your channel.
1.2 million views.
20 thousand of them from me alone.
Thank you so much for bringing back what I grew up it puts a smile on my face when I hear your music after work and again thank you!!
Hey Colm, I truly love your voice 💜💜 !!
Congratulations for all the music you make 🎉🎉
These Irish folk songs are so fun to listen to!
I have been looking forward to this since I knew you were planning on doing this, and this just made my already good day that much better!!!
Just great! Really, really great!
Well worth the wait! Perfectly done! I'll raise a glass of whiskey for this one for sure.
i've been listening to this song on repeat every since i heard your short version, i have truly been blessed this day
Я только второй день как узнала о Вашем существовании. Как музыкант пребываю в невероятном шоке и восхищении, какой невероятный диапазон, владение голосом! Брависсимо, восторг!!!
Out of all his music. this is his most beautiful he’s done. He put so his soul into this.
Not sure how anyone is going to take this, but when I tapped the link and Colm's voice rang through the phone speaker, one of my hens hopped up beside me to listen. 🤣
Songs right in my range and I’m so exited to get this down so I can have another awesome song I can sing to get me and the boys pumped
