Oh so my old one which were all the big and gruff and rugged races so dwarves orcs goliaths gnomes and lizardfolk so on so forth the we had like what 3 major combatants of 2 haflings and tiefling
Sounds like fun... no a party where theres 1 barbarian , one archer , one swordsman and 3 bards and most of them get drunk. That sounds like a fun time with this being sung in a tavern.

Cut the cloth, tread the fat, Leave the bones on the bedroom mat Pour the milk on the pantry floor Splash the wine on every door Dump the crocks in the boiling bowl Pound them up with a thumping pole And when you've finished if they are whole Send them down the hall to roll! *Bofur's Song* There's an inn, there's an inn, a merry old inn beneath the old grey hill, And there they brew a beer so brown The Man in the Moon himself came down One night to drink his fill. The ostler has a tipsy cat that plays a five-stringed fiddle; And up and down he saws his bow, Now squeaking high, now purring low, Now sawing in the middle. So the cat on his fiddle played hey-diddle-diddle, a jig that would wake the dead: He squeaked and sawed and he quickened the tune, While the landlord shook the Man in the Moon: 'It's after three!' he said. Now quicker the fiddle went deedle-dum-diddle; the dog began to roar, The cow and the horses stood on their heads; The guests all bounded from their beds and danced upon the floor. The round Moon rolled behind the hill as the Sun raised up her head. She hardly believed her fiery eyes; For though it was day, to her surprise they all went back to bed!

@@theangel1975 That's because they didn't do their research. Very common for RUclipsrs not to do. Doesn't make it any more correct tho if they write it in the description. I have read both LoTR and The Hobbit, I doubt they have even tried reading any of them :)

Ah, the reason for this being described in the Narsilion section of the Silmarillion. It was right after the Two Trees, Laurelin and Telpirion, were poisoned by Ungoliant, the giant spider and mother of Shelob (as seen in the films). There was one fruit from each tree remaining. The Maia race (basically demigods-- Gandalf belongs to this race) chose two bearers for these fruit. I do not remember their names, but the female one took the fruit of Laurelin and the male one took the fruit of Telpirion, hence the sun is female and the moon is male. God, I need to get a life, don't I.
That always confused me because normally women are associated with the moon because of periods and men are associated with the sun for another reason which I forget.

This was VERY VERY cool. My family and I (all choir singers) read the hobbit and LOTR together as a family and made an audiobook of it when I was a kid, and Mom composed music to go with all of the songs, including the ones you all sing here! It is interesting to hear them sung to a different tune than the one I have set in my head years ago by my mom, haha! Great job guys, I think Tolkien would be proud :) (I actually do some LARPing and always go as an elven bard, and most of my songs come from Tolkien's books! The Merry Old Inn song is a favorite)
It really is one of the best. Well, they're all the best, but it's still amazing. It's not in the books, but I'll always have a soft spot for the Tom Bombadil poem that Tolkien recitied and recorded. Give it a listen if you haven't already.

In June 2024 now, this brings back such fun memories of listening to Peter Holland in high school, and watching Hank Green’s crash course chemistry to get me THROUGH high school, and then discovering this amazing crossover of both of them and squealing in 17-year-old delight 😂
When they sing the song in the movie Pippin gets distracted by (if I recall corrrctly) Gandalf. Merry shouts his name to get him back on track of the song.
Bugger me, I must've listened to this at least 50 times and I never heard someone shout Pippin till I read your comment. Now I won't be able to unhear it.
all dislikes are from the clerics that need to heal the barbarians in the party whom are forced the fix all the bards fckups every time.... they hear the tune and instantly regret waking up lol
Peter Hollens has done so many collaborations with so many people who aren't singers, it makes me think he can make anyone sound good with a little instruction and by singing with them.
I recommend you drink while you practice singing along. Then drink and sing it alone. In case you are the lead at the bar. Then go out and greet your public!!!

Today's episode of Crash Course is: How to be a bard
(raises hand) uhhhhh what was the incantation for the mass duplication spell
@@keltoronm2994 Oh Me-From-The-Past, do you really think I’d be irresponsible enough to teach mass duplication on day one? The answer is yes, yes I would.
I can't believe you did a collab with HANK GREEN!!
How did I just get this recommendation?!
I am so HAPPY right now. This made me smile. Thank you

This never fails to make me smile. Wish people just burst out in songs like these at bars. I would love being a part of that!
Wow, Hank Green...never thought you were this musical, surprised me!! Anyways, great job Hank!!! And Peter, great as always!!!
Hank has a band! It tours!
Aldowyn Oh really!!! Wow, that's great!!!
Hank might just be my favourite artist.
The harmony at 0:20 is what I LIVE FOR!!!!! if I could just loop that one part, I would lol.
True ! The bass vocal harmonies are perfect ^^ !! (and I'm looping this part as well...)
These Deep voices at 0:20 just give me goosebumps 😍😍
Been watching Hank for years, he actually lives pretty close to me, had no idea he could sing
He has a music video called "I ****ing love science" (there's a no-swear version too). It is fantastic. Oh and there's "having a bad day on chat roulette". And a bunch of others, he used to sing more, especially in vlogbrothers videos.
Quinian's Budget Crafts he does?! What?!
my cheeks hurt from smiling so much, anyone else having this problem?
jonnie Vasquez me
jonnie Vasquez yes
jonnie Vasquez every song he does.
Same
That sounds like the opposite of a problem.
I wish they did things like this in real life . that would be so cool to have a bar do this
Irish pubs my fellow... Irish pubs.
they are called Flash mobs, I recommend you to see some, they are pretty cool, not as much as this piece of art but its gonna amaze you for sure
And you can do this yourself. Get about 6 or more people together, learn a song and go ahead.
Do you have the recording avaliable on RUclips? I'd love to hear it!
It really is one of the best. Well, they're all the best, but it's still amazing. It's not in the books, but I'll always have a soft spot for the Tom Bombadil poem that Tolkien recitied and recorded. Give it a listen if you haven't already.
Have you published your songs? it would be lovely to hear them! *-*
that is so cool... I loved reading to wife and kids, and getting all the voices, but ya just can't do the music right.... tis was awesome, and I listen every weekend.
Adding my plea for a recording of the tunes you grew up with! :)
Always come back to this as my love for Hank grows and grows
My kids have officially asked me to stop playing this song... The quote of the night is "Oh Mom, not that Peter Hollens song again!?! Can we listen to other ones, please?" Needless to say, HUGE LOTR fan and love the album you did of those songs. 😄🎶
oh, and here from the community. :) 👍
I have begun to sing this constantly throughout my day, everybody is telling me to stop but I just cant... h e l p
my kids love it.... but ya, gotta mix up a little bit...
My gf said the same thing😅 I'm trying to mix it up but it's so good!
You would love the song that he did with Tim Foust if you haven't already heard it. And because of that song I'm now hooked on home free.
Oh you can search far and wide,
You can look the whole youtube
But you'll never find a cover so fine
(But you'll never find a cover so fine)
As the one we're listening right now,
(As the one we're listening right now)
You can hear their fancy remix
You can listen them by the speakers
But the only cover for the brave and true...
..Comes from Peter Hollens!!
Peter can't.make it until Weird Al Yankovic parodies him.
That... Doesn't remotely rhyme tho. xD
This is absolutely incredible 💙
YOUR PROFILE PIC
+Dina Binstok YOU LIKE THAT CATIE
I agree!
This is the content creator crossover I didn't know I needed.
Hank can sing damn this guys a genius and talented.
I only wish I could put this on loop without the speech after the song.
Buy the CD. I listen to this song at least a couple of times a day. It's my fav song from the album!
*****
I'm 17
So? I live halfway across the world from these guys and I could buy the CD at my local CD shop. Pretty sure there is no age limit on buying CDs.
*****
Can't buy online for reasons and my town doesn't even have CD shops.
+│Bloodsol│ If you can't purchase a physical copy of the CD, it is also available on Spotify, iTunes, Google Play, and LoudR
I NEED a one hour version of this!
Just put it on loop.
Get Well soon Hank 🎈🎈🎈 🍻
This is SO much fun!!! You guys are both awesome. :)
thanks Laura! :D
nicely made i am a huge fan of the LORT/Hobbit series
isn't
I agree!!!!!
Thanks, this was great, John Green's awsome too.
"He's Got To Be The Finest Bard I Have Ever Seen"
"So It Would Seem"
Does anyone else notice Peter in the white shirt, drunk? Hank gives him the funniest look. xD
Because at 1:10 he starts to dump the beer! That's Hanks's don't waste beer look.
ent0m0l0gist 😂 😂😂
In June 2024 now, this brings back such fun memories of listening to Peter Holland in high school, and watching Hank Green’s crash course chemistry to get me THROUGH high school, and then discovering this amazing crossover of both of them and squealing in 17-year-old delight 😂
I would give my left arm to go to a pub filled with Peter Hollenses and Hank Greens
How I wish to get my hands on the multitrack to listen every harmony by itself!!
slightly after 0:17, did I hear someone shout 'Pippin' or is that just my imagination :P
When they sing the song in the movie Pippin gets distracted by (if I recall corrrctly) Gandalf. Merry shouts his name to get him back on track of the song.
Yes, I realised after having seen the movie again :) It is in a different part of the song, though. Right at the end.
Bugger me, I must've listened to this at least 50 times and I never heard someone shout Pippin till I read your comment. Now I won't be able to unhear it.
never noticed that till now x
know they cut the audio from the movie
That bass voice
Aragorn's coronation left for another video and it will be perfect *.*
all dislikes are from the clerics that need to heal the barbarians in the party whom are forced the fix all the bards fckups every time.... they hear the tune and instantly regret waking up lol
Peter please do a cover of any song from Hamilton the musical. That'd be amazing. And thank you for the great videos, keep it up.
I just saw your wife did "Burn" but still hearing something like "Dear Theodosia" would make my day. Or something like "Say no to This" with your wife
hamilton would be cool
I would love to hear Acapella What did I Miss
He actually said on twitter that he's releasing a medley on September 13th
+ConnerMac life is good
Peter Hollens has done so many collaborations with so many people who aren't singers, it makes me think he can make anyone sound good with a little instruction and by singing with them.
Is there any chance we'd ever get separate full versions of these songs?? These would be a great addition to any SCA feast or firewalk!
the songs in LOTR are very short, this is all there is of most of them. Peter doe ls have a full version of the misty mountain song I believe.
I recommend you drink while you practice singing along. Then drink and sing it alone. In case you are the lead at the bar.
Then go out and greet your public!!!
Every pub will be singing this once we're all out of quarantine
what is my crash course teacher doing singing like a nerd
Being a nerd.
Playing a bard in dnd session. Laying bitches and slaying witches id assume, or was it laying witches and slaying bitches. Always get the two confused.
Hank has always been a nerd. #Nerdfightaria
@@karmaakabane2814 Love the reference.
I love this guy
I would really like to hear these as full songs instead of the little shorts..they would be damn good tavern songs.
ShinKyuubi Also good songs for a choir. A suitable instrumental backing would also be a nice variation.
Just came from Vlogbrothers. This is Awesome!

Thank you Tara! :D
So honored to have you come check it out!! NERDFIGHTERS FTW!!!!! Hank & John are the best!!!!
+Peter Hollens You're amazing. Dftba :)
Two years ago, but it still caught me off guard to find these two guys do a medley together. Epic.
I listen to this on repeat while I'm writing fantasy! I just love Peter's arrangements! What a divine person!
1:22 Hank (the left one) starts singing the wrong line before catching himself. Smooth. “That’s what Bilb- the hall to roll.”
I was watching Peter sitting across the table from Hank when he messes up, and it looks like Peter starts to sing the wrong line as well ^_^
@@victoriaphillips152 Me again, from the future. I never noticed that! He saves it a bit sooner than Hank does. What’s weird is that they weren’t even singing at the same time. We know from 1:06 that Hank and Peter on the left side are filmed concurrently. So the Peter that knew Hank messed up was the one drinking beer at the time. That means Hank and Peter both screwed up the same line in different takes.
Hank green ended up being my teacher without em knowing hahaha my teach used lots of his videos and this song was my first introduction to Hank. Made learning from him alot easier for whichever reason. Happy hes cancer free for now 😊 my classmates were pulling for em. Thanks for the song and your teachings.
I got honours by the way. Thanks Hank Green. I'm not a great natural student so I'm in your debt for those grades and how you can convey information
I sang this in the Green Dragon Inn in Boston. They just looked at me funny.
You legend...
Sadly they aren't men of culture
They didn't recognize it? Shame on them...
How have I not seen this before after watching the movie green dragon vid so many times? this is OUTSTANDING
AHHH HANK GREEN, THE HOBBIT, AND BEAUTIFUL SINGING IS THE LITERALLY PERFECT!! THIS MADE MY DAY!!!
Thanks so much!! :D
1:34 is the song we're all here for.
I'm in here for the second one :)
me too lads
0:19 was that Merry saying "Pippin!" in the background?😂
honestly i thought i was just hearing things, i’m so glad it’s not just me 😂
"But you've gotta survive coz you've gotta survive". Thats the only reason im still breathing and i have a wife and 3 kids who need me and ive been so close to checking out so often ive lost count
Songs like these are magic, and the singers are truly talented.
This is going on my list of St Pats day drinking music ;)
Can we plz bring back Drinking Medleys?!!!!! I love to enter a bar & start a medley with everyone in there
I love the demeanor of the singers. They are every bit as fun to watch as to listen to. Oh and more please!
