    Kanami took Miku on as a student and has been teaching her to play guitar from the beginning. I agree wholeheartedly that Miku has grown by leaps and bounds as a guitarist thanks to Kanami's tutoring👍

    The greatest part about Band-Maid is that they focus on everyone. There isn't just one or two people that stand out, but FIVE. You can't say that for almost any other (if not any other.). They are the perfect band. Nobody can prove otherwise.

      To be honest it seems like many of the all female Japanese bands are composed of musicians who all stand out. A few examples, Lovebites, Gacharic Spin, Neophilia. Miku was the "weak link" in Band Maid since she didn't even know how to play guitar at the beginning but she was thrown in the deep end and did not sink but rose to the occasion and quickly swam. Of course having a teacher like Kanami does not hurt.

    Miku may not be a lead guitarist like Kanami, but he started to play guitar after the band was formed, and he can have a role as a backing guitarist.
    I think it's because of his effort behind the scenes, which he doesn't usually show in his character, and because he had Kanami, who was a good teacher.

    On Band-Maid's bass heavy sound. It actually ties into Miku's lack of skill earlier in their history. Since Miku wasn't a vey experienced player, to fill in the area of their music where there SHOULD be her guitar, MISA was asked to step in to cover those areas. So MISA basically became a co-lead instrumentalist filling double duty as Bass and Rhythm guitar, while Miku, in the past would drop into cover the Bass line and tie into Akane's kick drum.
    Now Miku is a very accomplished guitarist, but STILL MISA's bass is such an integral part of the sound of Band-Maid, they just keep on with what makes them unique and easily identifiable. If it doesn't have MISA's bass, it's NOT a Band-Maid song.

    Nice to see Miku getting some appreciation. A very inspiring woman who had a dream of being a singer and guitarist in a band and worked very, very hard to make it become a reality. She accepted that Saiki had the voice to be lead singer, stepped back and only nervously sang some harmonies at first but, over the years, with her never-ending dedication to learning, practicing and perfecting her vocal skills, she is now rightly confident to sing amazing solos. Same goes for her guitar skills - from wearing it like a necklace in the THRILL MV to now being one of the top 20 rhythm guitarists currently playing. As with her vocal talents, her guitar skills have evolved through her non-stop practicing, a sign of her respect for her guitar teacher, Kanami-sensei, as well as her own desire to continually improve. The last couple of years have really seen her skills showcased more and more, especially on acoustic guitar. For me, there is one more facet to this shining jewel of a 810 year old pigeon, and that is in her skill at songwriting. Her lyrics are usually deeper than most, utilising many aspects of Japanese culture and philosophy while also creating a lot of subtle and meaningful wordplay with English and Japanese words. She is inspiring in her work ethics, her creativity, her positivity, her empathy, her dedication to fulfilling and maintaining and evolving her dream of world domination with the band she founded, THE best band on Earth, Band-Maid.

    I am so glad you brought up Miku's journey to the extremely proficient rythym guitarist she has become. I feel that she sometimes get short shrift because Kanami, Akane and Misa are three masters of their instruments. As you said, it is very unusual for a someone to form a band and not play an instrument, then realize she is not the best type of voice for the band, auditions and brings Saiki on board, and then decides she's going to learn to play guitar. If anyone was going to do this, Miku is the one and I would bet the farm on it. As far as the song goes, every one of Kanami's compositions tells a story, whether there are lyrics or not. The other thing is the complexity of her compositions, especially the instrumentals. I've probably listed to Onset close to 100 times and I still find little things that I missed before. And it's the same with From Now On, Without Holding Back, Giovanni and a few others. And it's really tough sometimes for me because i can't read music, so it's all by ear.

      I'm sure the others would have been in bands, probably successful bands ... but when they joined up with Miku they were going to see the world. She has been determined to make it a success and will do whatever it takes. Radio interviews, television interviews, putting on her maid dress and hosting a travelogue - _whatever it takes._ You could see her getting a little shiny-eyed at Yokohama because she'd never done anything that lasted even two years, and here they are ten years later, standing on the big stage with people all around the world watching on stream if they couldn't get there to watch in person. I don't know why she chose Kanami but she chose wisely.

    As the Maids said at Yokohama, beginning 2024, it's "Chapter Two" for Band-Maid. What does that mean -- a new direction in music on their upcoming summer album... new battle gear... different stage show or venues... more collabs (The Warning, Lovebites, individual musician appearances?)... member and band projects like scoring movies, aniMaids, soloing projects like Cluppo... someone getting married or 👶🐣?? Pretty exciting stuff! Thx, John!

    If you wanted a great guitar teacher, Kanami is the one. Miku was still not playing guitar in a regular way until later in 2014. Early live shows show her strumming the odd chord during a song, but by the next year she was able to play right through their songs.

  • @IdiotPosterBoy
    @IdiotPosterBoy 6 месяцев назад +1

    Band-Maid is one of the few bands with the nsin singer being the only replacable member. Dont get me wrong, Saiki is a lovely singer, but BM with some other singer would still be BM. Losing any of Misa, Misu, Kanami or Akane would be catastrophic.

    • @SteveBalderrama
      @SteveBalderrama 6 месяцев назад +4

      Fully disagree. Saiki ‘s vocal approach is very different to all their contemporaries, she’s a melodical blusey contralto voice compared to so many high voices or power metal voices. Plus her stage presence is unmatched. She was the last piece that pushes BM to the stratosphere IMO.

    • @philcalvino884
      @philcalvino884 6 месяцев назад

      @@SteveBalderrama Agree totally, and I think that's precisely why Kanami, as lead composer, fawns on her so much. The richness and vibrancy of that lower alto register, plus her stage presence puts her out of the range of swappable.

    • @lurkmerchant
      @lurkmerchant 6 месяцев назад

      Saiki is the only singer that can bring Band-Maid songs into life.
      Even before she started writing lyrics on her own, she was co-writing a few songs with Miku, and there are few more songs I feel that have Saiki's strong input. She's got the powerful rock vocal on stage, but she's also an essential part of the team.
      Who's idea do you think it was to place this instrumental as the first track of Unleash EP?
