I've found the tires and suspension work better on the EeB. Flat off camber turns the EeB just has more traction. A lot of people complain they can't flick an EeB around with the extra weight. I hardly notice it since I ride a lot of moto. It's only 15-20 more pounds compared to the dynamo of 200+ pound moto.

What didnt make sense to me was the lack of protection besides the helmet.

I used to ride motocross (YZ250) and wore full protection on the track. When I switched to MTB, I was very nervous with the minimum protection we wear although the speed is way slower than MX but the jumps are still ..... big. I am riding an Ibis Ripley AF that weighs 34 lbs and I am on the fence about getting an Orbea Wild H10 that weighs 54 lbs, or a Orbea Rise that weighs 44 lbs. I've owned the Firebird and several EMTBs. My current EMTB is the new Repeater PT. I think the results here were very predictable based on the bikes and the suspension platform. The Firebird makes a great long travel all mountain bike, but isn't the most composed bike on high speed enduro tracks. This is due to the extremely short chainstay length, and suspension platform. A more purpose built race MTB with longer a longer chainstay (Yeti SB160, RAAW Madonna, Banshee Titan etc.) would have been a better comparison with the Strive. The weight of an EMTB certainly helps, but I'm convinced that the longer chainstays are a big factor in making the EMTBs faster down rough enduro tracks. Note: I really hope Steve reads this comment because it really explains his issues with body positioning on the Firebird. He would have been much more comfortable on a traditional MTB with a longer chainstay.

I really like your content but to be honest: What´s the big thing of being some seconds faster or slower? As you already stated: some one younger, fitter, taller or smaller ... in other words: another person might or might not change the whole story. At least I don´t care. But what I care is how it feels to me. And if you feel better on the EMTB (just like I do) then go for it. If not, go for another solution. We all have a huge range of options to choose from and that´s awesome.
