★ BACKGROUND NOTES ★
月亮代表我的心 was for myself and many other people of Chinese ethnicity born in Western countries, an extremely well known pop song that would be sung by everyone's parents, their parents' friends, their extended families and eventually ourselves. It's a song that transcends generations with its simplicity and beauty, and so whenever I hear it I think of my family instantly.
I decided to arrange a virtuosic marimba solo version of it based on the main themes (no I will not provide sheet music for this for various reasons sorry) because this 'Together' concert was my solo debut in the United States, and my family couldn't physically be there so I wanted some part of them with me on stage :)
This is a really meaningful arrangement for me and I remember seeing people crying in the audience after, so I guess it means a lot to many others too. Thank you for listening!!
