I really appreciate it when percussionist compose fantastic pieces for 4.3 marimbas rather than making it a 5 octave piece for those who don’t have a 5 octave but also not making it too simple for a 4.3 like most 4.3 solos. Thanks Adam for this beautiful piece. I would love to see more 4.3 solos from you.
Thank you for this! I agree with you, there are more players out there with 4.3s at the moment and we should be encouraging more serious music for that instrument :)
@@AdamTanPercussion This is me being out of school with my 4.3 and having played some pretty difficult pieces (kieko abe ftw) And then being sad I need to move up those low notes on even easy peices.
Sounds like something that would have been in a move like Up, during the beginning part where it shows the couple growing old together throughout the years. Beautiful.
i’ve just been told by my parents that i shouldn’t even try to go into music. and that i don’t even practice. i’ve been practicing hours every day for the past 4 years in hopes of being able to go somewhere with percussion. not giving up just yet. also i know that that’s a pretty young person thing to be worried about but… i can’t see myself doing anything else. just wanna say that ur a huge inspiration, and that this piece brought tears to my eyes just now. and i’ve heard it a million times already. thank you.
Don't worry, my parents said the same thing at the beginning! All that matters is that you do what you think is going to get you closer to your desired life :) and seems like you're already doing it so good on you!!

This is probably one of the most enjoyable peaceful pieces I have ever listened to. Not only is it a fantastic composition, but the performance was amazing as well. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I’m a junior in high school looking for a solo for solo and ensemble in TX, USA and I just saw some of his pieces on the pml(prescribed music list). I just thought that was really cool.
Hmmm, my review of this. It’s really really beautiful, and I love the recurring melodies and themes throughout the piece. I also really appreciate the contrast between the themes as they are sequenced next to each other. The chord progressions are beautiful as well. I’ll definitely be playing this in a solo ensemble with moon as well. Oh and the most important note- ITS ON A 4.3!!!
Duuude I'd love to hear you play it! Thank you so much for your wonderful words. And of course I love writing for 4.3, gives us extra challenges with the smaller bass line :)
I felt like this particular piece told some sort of story. As i listened i visualized so many things that may go with this story. It's amazing I love this solo! 😂😁
I played this piece for a state solo and ensemble competition too early for my skill level and somehow managed to get a one. Thanks for making a really enjoyable solo to play that got me really invested into what I was learning and actually put effort into being a percussionist.
Wonderfully great composition! Congratulations, and I hope to see many people play this sophisticated piece. Great expression and story-telling through all these tonal adventures, I thoroughly enjoyed it!
With schools closing, I lost access to a 5 octave marimba, but I have been very fortunate enough to borrow a 4.3 from my old high school. Been searching for literature to do on a 4.3 and I think I'm gonna give this one a go :)
Hi adam can you give me some tips on marimba because I am just starting out at my school and I am having a hard time. I have been watching you for 3-4 months and I love your reviews. Can you also do some snare rudiments. You and I have the same names :)
adam szczudluk Thanks Adam! Yes we do have the same name ahaha... no matter what you do spend lots of time slowly working on exercises to build technique first! I didn’t do this when I started and I sucked so much. You’ll grow so fast! And as for snare rudiments, I’m actually pretty bad at snare LOL.. but I’ll see what I can do. Thank you for the suggestion!
Thank you so much! I'd say it's definitely more tricky than Moon because it's a bit more note-heavy and sporadic, so maybe we can call it an 'Intermediate-Advanced' :)
littlelamp100 it depends on how comfortable you are with the instrument. If you haven’t really played a marimba solo Before there are other pieces you Should begin with,as this piece has some advanced stuff in it. But if you think you’re up for it then I’d say go for it!
I think what everyone said above is right! You can learn anything if you take it slowly and it will show you exactly what you need to learn to get the piece to the standard you want. And 2nd movement of mexican dances is pretty good!!
You did a top ten marimba four mallet solos, but I'm looking for duets to do with friends. It would be awesome if you could make a top ten marimba duets with four mallets.
Ugh now I have to decide whether to play Lotus or Moon for my first four-mallet solo. Moon seems easier for me except the one handed run at the beginning which is odd because even though I'm right handed I am much better with rolls and independents in my left hand!
@@AdamTanPercussion Thanks for the luck. Last year the instructors went heavy on putting your own idea into a piece. I thought Moon would be a good choice.
@@mr.pwingles8959last week i finally performed this solo and didnt make it because our judge had a lot higher expectations than any other, but when i was learning and going on I just played the song I never really used warmups, its probably not the best way to go about it but thats just what I did

Seems very Debussy inspired. Especially the descending melody in the right hand 🙂. Sounds lovely and I’ll for sure be playing this at somepoint
You are spot on! That downward motif is my arabesque moment hahaha. Thank you for wanting to play it!

Up the great work!

joe McHenry Ahahahahaha best comment ever, thank you!!!
Adam I love all of you marimba solos. They are something I aspire to play daily. My favorite one by far of yours is Moon.
I swear, if you keep making these awesome solos at this rate, I can just go ahead and kiss my wallet goodbye.
Ahahahaha you are too kind! One at a time :)
i just bought a copy of this ahead of time for school!!
same connotation as moon. I should make an animation to accompany this piece

I'm glad you love both! Moon is a fun one too :)

Beautiful as always 🤙
Thank you so much man!!
Finally a 4.3 octave piece!
Moon is also 4.3
Yes I wanna write more for 4.3, it is a fun challenge working with a smaller space! Next one will be a 4.3 + vibes duo I think...
gorgeous stuff man
I really don’t like playing octaves since I have small hands and use traditional grip, but I’ll try to play this 👍
Thank you man!! I'm sure you can do it!
TKam1646 hey there bud 😂
I want to perform this is bad for solo and ensemble next year! Too bad it's not on the list but please consider it!

Are there physical copies yet or just PDF?
What’s your process for writing these solos and how long do they usually take to make? (Your solos are great and I love them!)
Debussy....but with some modern chords
Blake Sorenson Correct 🤣
