    Back in 1980 my Yamaha XT250, with it’s 16 horsepower, could bowl along at 70 (assuming no headwind!).
    Then I got a 250LC with 36 horsepower that could hit a ton.
    Next, a GPz550 with 54 ponies which made me think I was sat astride a jet engine.
    My final bike of the 80’s was a GPz750 who’s 85 HP was more than enough for me (and the tires of that era).
    In the 90’s I bought the bike I’d yearned after for a decade, a GPz900r, and the world went into reverse (115 HP).
    A couple more bikes (and too many birthdays) later and I’m a 56 yr old riding a 2018 XR which I LOVE...
    Seriously, 165 very eager horses is enough for the road. It’s more than enough. You can beat just about anything away from the lights, or for overtaking or from 0 to 100mph and STILL have 50 horses in reserve. Frankly, I quite like my driving licence so I’ve usually got about 110 of those steeds in the stable.
    So why, other than the fact I’ve always loved Kawasaki’s, have I booked a test ride on an H2 SX.....?

    Better look, better weight than the previous one. Better color than the previous ones, better headlight than the previous one.
    Also looks masculineeeee and handsomeeeeeeeee.
    I am a GSAdventure rider since first 1150 adventure came out.
    Just sold my 2015 GSA and I was thinking to have new 1250 GSA and S1kR next to it.
    But now , I wanna order ONLY this one instead of used gsa and s1kr.
    I hope, I am making a right decision.

    My next bike for sure. Already contacted dealers in my new town to see delivery ASAP. This is one amazing bike, now maturing to awesome. Too many are hung up on shiftcam or not, what's the point? BMW has given a valid reason why not. I'll look to Brentuning and others to up the game anyway.

    • @wesoly757
      @wesoly757 5 лет назад +1

      And what was the reason for no shift cam? I didn't get that. No matter what reason it should be implemented in the engine, they have done it to GS and RR why not to XR? If this technology is so good why not install it in XR? I'll ask you this way which bike would you choose same bike but one with shift cams, second without shift cam? Just assume shift cam is in XR would you still go to Brentuning and spend a lot of money to make it more powerful? If yes you contradict yourself. You don't need new technology but you want to pay someone to make your bike go faster? 🤔

    • @flowrider5548
      @flowrider5548 5 лет назад

      @@wesoly757 The reason given was twofold. First they were doing there level best to save weight where they could, to make it more agile and responsive - though I'd say Gen 1 is darned good. Second, they said that the ShiftCam for the RR engine shifts at 9,000 rpm, which makes little use on the XR as it is not normally run that high. True. But why is that changeover rpm "locked in"? They should be able to adjust it. So for me, only the first argument on weight really holds water. That, plus simplicity and utilising other means to up the midrange torque. From what they say and do, ShiftCam is cool for some bikes, not the best for others. I accept that, no problem.

      @Bikemax99 5 лет назад

      @Guillermo Torres wrong. Homologation weight is only 2 kg lighter, mostly because "heavy" former options are now standard (Dynamic ESA, pannier holders,...). But when you compare typical customer spec (bike incl. touring pack and dynamic pack), it's a true 10 kg lighter. Another 4 kg can then be saved by adding the M lightweight battery and M carbon package. More importantly, a lot of weight was saved in the right spots: rotational mass (wheels -1.8 kg) and unsprung mass (rear swing arm -1.6 kg).

    Really like the "face" styling direction BMW is going with the 1000 XR the new 900 XR. Let's hope they solved the VIBRATION from the previous XR.

    • @bmw_motorrad_romania
      @bmw_motorrad_romania 5 лет назад

      Regarding the vibration, the new
      handlebar clamps have pressedin rubber bushings which offer much more effective decoupling.

    • @exothermal.sprocket
      @exothermal.sprocket 5 лет назад

      @@bmw_motorrad_romania Which can be very effective. However, the previous engine wasn't a vibration prone problem in the S1000RR superbike, but when used in the frame of the XR, it was terrible. Which (and I think from the perspective of a mechanical engineer) leads me to believe it was a resonance frequency problem with the frame geometry. If the newly revised engine is as smooth as the last, potential remains for the new XR to telepath resonant vibrations to the bars, unless the Germans have solved the cause.

    • @exothermal.sprocket
      @exothermal.sprocket 5 лет назад

      @Citizenthirteen I'm sure the new engine isn't 100% new, but I'm sure the internals have been heavily revised. Was hoping Shift-Cam would find its way into the XR, but maybe it's a price-point issue.

    I was concerned after just buying my 2019 that I would be struggling after the release of the 2020. I have to say I'm just not. And I am thankful for that but this bike just isn't exciting for me. At least not enough to lose my backside getting rid of mine. I get its lighter and it has new headlights and a new engine, but a new engine with basically the same output? At one time the output was impressive but that time has come and gone. The styling also misses the mark for me. If you haven't seen the color options I'm convinced someone will lose their job over that, lol. Other than red its just God Awful. Now I will say my 18yr old son saw it and almost had a meltdown, He loved it so maybe I'm just getting old? Top speed has been increased by 3 MPH and I'm thinking that's due to the aero design of the ant looking front end. Should get there a bit quicker being lighter but honestly, I was expecting more, not sure what more I was expecting but I feel a bit let down. The market is saturated with new technology, More HP, Cutting edge designs. I get you can only do so much. At the end of the day its a motorcycle and will ultimately resemble another bike, but this is not a cheap entry level machine. I get the impression with this bike BMW is completely happy being mid pack? If I was in the market today I would honestly give Ducati, KTM or even the Yamaha a serious look. Just my opinion and everyone has one....... Love the video DriveMag! You guys are amazing!!!!
